Yevgeny Maksimovich Primakov was a Russian politician and diplomat who served as Prime Minister of Russia from 1998 to 1999. During his long career, he also served as Foreign Minister, Speaker of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union, and chief of the intelligence service.

This is Yevgeny Primakov's short memoire about the events in 1991 that followed the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent First Gulf War that lead to the retreat of Iraq launched by the US lead coalition. Primakov is a long serving Soviet diplomat who was key in the behind the scenes negotiations trying to avert the war and convince Saddam to withdraw from Kuwait, and attempt that failed.

The book is OK and there are a few details I didn't know before but it lacks depth and analysis. This could have been a serious well written and useful book but it feels like some vague extracts from Primakov's diary or like him telling someone the story on an elevator ride, not much other than a narrow view and a few elements that he saw without linking it to the bigger picture, the history, or the consequences.

كتاب صغير الحجم كثير المعلومات ،يحكي ببساطة عن قنوات النقاشات الديبلوماسية لماقبل وأثناء الحرب ،وأنتهائها.

تأتي هذه المعلومات من بريماكوف وهو شخصية رئيسية في هذه الأحداث ومشارك أيضاً بها على مستوى عالمي.
كمايتبين للقارىء حجم تعنت القيادة العراقية أنذاك،وعدم وعيها وتصورها لمسرح الأحداث كاملاً ببداية الأزمة.

كتاب ممتاز يكشف العديد من الأمور الخفية التي ادت الى إفتعال حرب الخليج و يشرح فيه بريماكوف بدقة متناهية كافة تفاصيل الحراك الدبلوماسي العلني والخفي الذي قامت به روسيا حينها لمحاولة تجنيب المنطقة هذه الحرب.
