A wide collection of yaoi (illustrated Japanese m/m love stories in manga form) were gathered together in this volume, showcasing a variety of styles. Sometimes smutty, sometimes, sometimes mingled with action, fantasy, or speculative fiction, this gathered together in a wide select of talents in the genre. Some were cute, some were steamy, some were beautifully illustrated. Some appealed to me, others didn’t. Readers will get a wide selection to choose from, along with a sneak peak at various manga-ka’s style, see if it’s a style which they’d like to see more of. If you’re interested in yaoi, would like to see what was available in this genre during the earliest years of the 21st century, this will give you a diverse sample.

All but two of the stories in this book featured sexual assault or rape.

There were some stories I liked; most I did not.

And before you go any further into this, keep in mind, I am not your typical boyboy crazy girl. I don't usually read yaoi, but I will indulge in it every now and then. I am picky in my pickings and like plot... not that I don't like sex, I do like that too, but I HAVE to have a good plotline to follow. And even though, I know, these are only snippets of series (or are they short stories? I'm not sure; I'm not that educated about yaoi) in this book, I was rather disappointed in my findings.

I liked Indecent Encounter. Sexy in a small way.

The Pale and Wavering Sketch was also one I liked.

Nostalgic Summer Memories was actually my favorite, by far. I'm not big on the art style, but the plot is actually intriguing. Interesting.

I thought The Proper Way to Raise a Pet was cute, but I don't generally like the whole cat ear, dog ear thing. I liked the dialogue and drawings, but I don't see it as a love story.

I didn't entirely get the whole Pretend Lovers thing (as I guess that story is more for those who like to... fantasize about butlers (same boat as maids, I guess; the whole server aspect)? Yeah, not my thing... but I did like the art style (too bad).
Not all well drawn manga comes with a good story line.

I think if I read more We Have a Hero in our Hearts, I'd actually like the story plot more.
In the fun aspect of reading, not serious. Reminds me of the light heartedness of Marionette Generation (which I love, btw!).

Neko Samurai is hilarious... and oh so, hilariously Wrong! But I can't stop laughing to take the plotline serious.

The Troubles of Kurashina Sensei I liked. Same with TheifXTheif.

Loving Boys Boarding School is absolutely perverted. Humorous but even more perverted than Neko Samurai. Not exactly a favorite of mine.

From there on, I lost interest in the rest of the volume. All those animal ears... cute, but, perhaps I'm biased... I only like the look on small kids... and girls. Lots of girls.

I prefer yuri, just to say.

I was so excited to buy this yaoi anthology because it was a big book, with lots of stories by various mangakas. It was a great opporunity to try new authors. Unfortunately, there are two major problems with the publication. First, each story is printed in an alternating color (red/white, blue/white, black/white, etc). I found this made teh book very diifuclt to read as there was not enough contrast. There's a very good reason newspapers and manga are done in black and white! Also, some of the text fell into the crease of the spine adding to teh difficulty in reading. Overall, the stories just weren't worth the problems, especially since there was very little, if any, yaoi content.

There are some stories in this collection that are okay, but even those few are just barely okay, barely sweet and barely interesting. The few okay ones are even messy and the storylines are hard to follow. Then there are horrible stories; stories about furries (if you could call it that), one about a school where everything is about sex sex and more sex, and then even more animal stuff! And broomsticks loving the feel of young boys "junk" rubbing against it. What the *bleep*?

I really like yaoi, but J-Boy is NOT good!

Maybe I'm just not into yaoi much anymore, but I wasn't really impressed with this manga anthology. I only liked the last couple stories: the one with the cat boy and the man with the cigarettes living alone (cute <3) and the one with the Spiritual Names XD (funny!)

Do you like shota? Toddler-con, shota? Kindergartners with lascivious broomsticks? You'd better if you want to buy this anthology of suckage. EVER!

NEVER READ IT.

This is a very mixed collection of short BL stories. There were two I very much liked (both in the middle of the book), but most I could have left alone, especially the disproportionate number of shouta animal stories.
