Rayne Hall writes fantasy and horror fiction, some of it quirky, most of it dark. She is the author of over sixty books in different genres and under different pen names, published by twelve publishers in six countries, translated into several languages. Her short stories have been published in magazines, e-zines and anthologies.

After living in Germany, China, Mongolia and Nepal, she has settled in a small Victorian seaside town in southern England. Rayne holds a college degree in publishing management and a masters degree in creative writing. Over three decades, she has worked in the publishing industry as a trainee, investigative journalist, feature writer, magazine editor, production editor, page designer, concept editor for non-fiction book series, anthology editor, editorial consultant and more. Outside publishing, she worked as a museum guide, apple
picker, tarot reader, adult education teacher, trade fair hostess, translator and belly dancer.

Currently, Rayne Hall writes fantasy and horror fiction and tries to regain the rights to her out-of-print books so she can republish them as e-books.

Her books on the writing craft (Writing Fight Scenes, Writing Scary Scenes, The Word-Loss Diet, Writing Dark Stories, Writing About Villains, Writing Short Stories to Promote Your Novel, Writing About Magic, Twitter for Writers) are bestsellers.

Rayne Hall is the editor of the Ten Tales anthologies:
"Bites: Ten Tales of Vampires"
"Scared: Ten Tales of Horror"
"Haunted: Ten Tales of Ghosts"
"Cutlass: Ten Tales of Pirates"
"Beltane: Ten Tales of Witchcraft"
"Spells: Ten Tales of Magic"
"Undead: Ten Tales of Zombies"
"Seers: Ten Tales of Clairvoyance"
"Dragon: Ten Tales of Fiery Beasts"
"Cogwheels: Ten Tales of Steampunk"
with more titles coming soon.

The stories in her Six Scary Tales series and the Thirty Scary Tales collection are subtle horror: suspenseful, creepy atmospheric, unsettling. Although they contain little violence and gore, they may not be suitable for young readers. Many of these stories have been previously published in other books or magazines.

British English: All Rayne Hall's books use British words, spellings, grammar and punctuation. If you're allergic to British English, avoid them. ;-)

When I was young I enjoyed the thrill of danger. Since I am older now, I prefer to have my excitement and adventure in the books I read. The stories in this collection do not disappoint with a bit of truth mixed with a good dose of fantasy. These ten great stories are written by the talented authors; Margo Lerwill, Douglas Kolacki, Jonathan Broughton, John Blackport, Kris Austen Radcliffe, Liv Rancourt, Rayne Hall, KJ Kiegan, and Douglas Kolacki.

KHABALLO written by Margo Lerwill was one of my favorites from this collection. A connection with characters is made as Loresa fights to protect her crew, like any parent would their children; she struggles - not show emotion or weakness. As I read I found myself routing for them.

Another tale that I really enjoyed was BLIND MAN'S BLUFF by Jonathan Broughton. Who would have suspected that someone so vulnerable would be the one that posed the most danger? This story reminds you to never underestimate someone. Doing so can catch you unaware!

One last tale that I must share my thoughts on is THE BOOK OF ADVENTURES by Douglas Kolacki. Steve escapes the reality of the depression while watching his Brother Jon's grand adventures as he reads the book Jon made. How wonderful would it be to leave the real world and escape anywhere, to be only limited by your imagination? Where would you go? What adventures would you have?

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy and adventure books. This is an excellent read for both young teens and adults.

Pirating Lessons??

The joys - AND lows - of pirating from many eras.

Fighting creatures afraid of water, to two brothers taking on the World.

There's much to enjoy in this book, and from many styles. I would recommend you read it yourself to find out how good it really is

I have read several of Rayne Hall's books in the past, so to come across her series of books where she compiled stories from other authors too fit a theme intrigued me.

Cutlass: Ten Tales of Pirates was everything I had hoped it would be. Aside from the Pirate theme, there was no overlap in the stories and each one was well written with interesting characters, unique story lines/plots and one of the stories took place in Outer Space (Diamonds and Bones)!

Cutlass also offers readers a unique look into the differing circumstances that might warrant such actions as well as introducing us to characters that are the diametric opposite of the swashbuckling persona: like a young African-American slave attempting to keep the plans of a valuable weapon away from the Confederate Army (Victoria & The Ironclad), or a young woman desperate to rescue her lover from the bonds of forced labor (Scylla & The Pepper Pirates). There's even a tale in which senior citizens take up the "Jolly Roger" to combat injustice against the elderly (The Pensioner Pirates).

1. KHABALLO by Margo Lerwill
Careened on a cursed island, the old captain and her men are caught between warring navies.

2. VICTORIA AND THE IRONCLAD by Douglas Kolacki
An escaped slave and a pirate captain race to capture the Confederacy's ultimate weapon.

3. BLIND MAN'S BLUFF by Jonathan Broughton
The trickster's reward is deceit.

4. SKRITCH by John Blackport
Your enemy may be your best ally.

5. DIAMONDS AND BONES by Kris Austen Radcliffe
In space, you may need to deal for the diamonds your bones need. (Yes, this story is about Space-Pirates!)

6. UN HOMME DE COULEUR LIBRE by Liv Rancourt
Fate sets Robert's life on a new course.

7. SCYLLA AND THE PEPPER PIRATES by Rayne Hall
A spunky young woman sets out to rescue her long-lost lover.

8. BROADSIDED by KJ Kiegan
Love can take you off course.

9. THE PENSIONER PIRATES OF MARINE PARADE by Jonathan Broughton
Rebel pensioners revolt.

10. THE BOOK OF ADVENTURES by Douglas Kolacki
In the Great Depression, two brothers find two kinds of escape

All of the stories are well-written and will inspire you to fantasize about adventures on the high seas. Grab a copy today! You won't be disappointed!

What can I say about this book? I am just amazed how a group of authors like Rayne Hall, Liv Rancourt, and Jonathan Broughton can write such great stories. Rayne Hall knows which stories to put together that can give the reader something they can enjoy. I know that in each of the books that I have read, that contained more than one author, I have found a story that I really enjoyed and a story that was still good but not my favorite. I can honestly say that I am, and will, when the opportunity arises to really let people know that Rayne Hall is someone to follow. Read what is written by Rayne Hall! I have yet to be disappointed!! Jonathan Broughton and Liv Rancourt are noticeably great writers too.
I so look forward to reading more from all of the authors in this book. This book is something that I would not fear my children reading as teenagers. They are thrilling and descriptive but not over the top to where you are concerned about what they are reading. I do recommend this book. :) I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I've become a huge fan of Rayne Hall's short stories and the short story collections she edits. She pulls together some of the best multi-author short story anthologies in different genres and this ebook featuring Ten Tales of Pirates adds to her impeccable reputation as editor and presents to the reader some amazing short story reads. These pirate stories are all unique and entertaining. I wanted to mention that I was pleased to see female focused stories too! I first fell in love with pirates, not from "Pirates of the Caribbean", but from seeing the movie "High Wind in Jamaica" on tv when I was growing up. From there on, my fascination with pirate stories grew and I was lucky enough to find an old paperback copy of the book "High Wind in Jamaica" that the film was based on and read that along with many other pirate classics. If you are a fan of pirate story classics and even sci-fi (there's an amazing sci-fi pirate story in the collection), you will enjoy this book.

Rayne Hall - editor of the entertaining “Ten Tales” anthologies (vampire, ghosts, and more) - has released another winner in her popular series. “Cutlass: Ten Tales of Pirates” offers an engrossing journey into the swashbuckling worlds of ten talented authors. My favorites in the anthology feature kickass female pirates: Kris Radcliffe’s sci-fi romp “Diamonds and Bones”, Jonathan Broughton’s “The Pensioner Pirates of Marine Parade” (geriatric pirates = awesome), and Rayne Hall’s “Scylla and the Pepper Pirates.” All ten tales are great reads, well written with clever and satisfying endings. Two enthusiastic swords up for this anthology.

This is a fun but not exceptional collection of short stories about pirates in a wide variety of settings. The writing quality ranges from amateurish to excellent. The one or two good ones are really good, and I think I only skipped over one of the ten tales.

I admit that I had hoped for a bit more dash and thrills, but for $.99 through Amazon I can't complain. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone who likes pirate stories. There is probably something here for everyone.

Rayne Hall is very gifted at finding awesome stories from various authors. Not all are written the same so you may not enjoy each story as much as the rest. I love reading different stories and I enjoy variety in everything, so I've really enjoyed these compilations. This is a good way to discover new and promising authors.

10 Tales of Pirates is a great adventurous story book with a vast diversity. As soon as one story finishes you are thrown into another place altogether. May it be a cursed island, New Orleans or in vast space Cutlass: 10 tales of Pirates has you covered.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to jump in an adventurous book and get lost in knee high leather boots, unforeseen adventures and salty wind in their hair.
