<3 The travelogue,precisely about sacred places and temples, which turned out be a amazing blend of myth, life and Indian history.
More than a travelogue it teaches u the unknown myths and the history.
Love history, traveling,the mighty Himalayas?go for it?

The work in which the past and present are the characters, from parayipettapanthirukualam, to the story to karna, the making of Delhi to environmental protection awareness, Haimavathabhoovil marks its place in the history of Malayalam travelogues.

Save the beautiful earth for us ,and for our kids.:)

കേവലമൊരു യാത്രാവിവരണമെന്നതിലുപരി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിനൊപ്പം നടന്ന പുസ്തകം... ആധ്യാത്മികതയുടെ ആരംഭത്തിലും സാമ്രാജ്യത്വത്തിന്റെ അവസാനത്തിലുമതീതമായി സമകാലിക വിഷയങ്ങളെയും ചർച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നു.. ഇന്ത്യൻ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെയൊരു കൊച്ചു റെഫെറൻസ് ഗ്രന്ഥമായും കണക്കാക്കാം...

One of the books I recommend to all. It is a literary treat with history, mythology, environment issues; to name some. It is a pleasure to read this finest travelogue like a fantastic novel. A must read book for all Malayalees.

This book is a must read for all Indians to just to fathom how great out legacy is. It took me on a pilgrimage touching places of mythological and cultural significance. Gliding through several chapters in a single sitting never bored me. The author is well read in philosophy, mythology, history and Sanskrit. Gems of knowledge from his vast database is sprinkled throughout the book. I felt that the right thoughts effortlessly rose in his mind at the right moments, and that the chapters are detailed and provides information of a place from all angles shows the meticulous work MP Veerendra Kumar has put in behind the trip. I wonder how he kept track of all the points from his 40 or so day long sojourn, given that he never mentions about taking notes or making diary entries. At few points, I envy the author's skill of retrieving from memory anecdotes, slokas, pieces of poetry, quotes etc.
Places like Rudraprayag, karnaprayag, kumaon, nainital, gangothri, yamunothri etc., that I had never paid much attention to before are now in my wish list. I must confess that at times, I felt the chill that the author described was in the place. Ironically, the journey seems largely uneventful, without any untoward incedents or difficulties, except that they are reaching places. Author's thoughts create the thought waves that is the book.
Another aspect I liked is the author's views about environmental protection and our blindly aping the west, which are similar to mine. Knowing that we have members of Parliament who holds these values is heartening. But unlike a man of power, he was just sitting there talking about all damages that we do to nature, mentioning nothing about actions the people and government can take to reduce or control it.
At gangothri, he talks about gang's birth, her story, river ganga and it's significance in Indian culture etc. At karnaprayag, the life story of karna is told. Each place and thing has a story to tell, a glory long lost is hidden everywhere. On finishing the book I took pride in being an Indian.

India is country with lot of historical facts and blessed with natural beauty. When we travel throughout India we will be feeling it's exotic beauty.
This book is a Travelogue by late Veerendrakumar ex member of parliament along with his colleagues. They travels from Delhi (Indrapresta) to many pilgrim sites in Himalayan mountain range which include Haridwar,kedarnad, uthar Kashi etc where he discuss us regarding historical significance including myths and facts of the land.
There pilgrimage through places of kurushetra provides detailed information of Mahabharata, travels through Delhi provided details on Indrapresta from Pandavas, mughal and British era .

You never feel its a travelogue. All history and grandma bed side stories. And lot borrowed notes and family history.

No, its not a compliment at all. Wasted my time.

Reminds me about story of a boy who wrote essay about coconut tree, though he was asked to write about cow. When he got exhausted what he knew about coconut tree, he wrote about the hut built using the dried leaves of coconut tree. Then about the recipes using coconut. Even about the present generation of people who once lived in that hut.

What about the cow?

"The cow was tied to a coconut tree.. " - he started it so.

Yes, why can't it be about cow.!!

Imagine you are taking a long journey with many stops. At each of the places you stop, the history of the place or the people who brought something special comes to your mind and you keep on thinking about it till you reach your next destination. This is how "Haimavatabhoovil" will be to the reader. The author gives very detailed history of the people and places and also shares how these places are there in the Puranas or mythology.

It makes an interesting read for those who are interested in all this.

മഞ്ഞുമൂടിയ ഹിമവാന്റ്റെ അതിമനോഹരമായ പുറംചട്ടയുള്ള ഈ ഭീമൻ പുസ്തകം, ഞാൻ ഇതിനോടകം ഒരുപാട് പുസ്തകോത്സവങ്ങളിൽ മലയാളത്തിലും, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പരിഭാഷയിലുമൊക്കെ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, പ്രഥമദൃഷ്ട്യാ മനസ്സിലിടം നേടിയതാണെങ്കിലും, എന്തുകൊണ്ടോ സ്വന്തമാക്കാൻ ഒരു വിമുഖത. 2025 ഫെബ്രുവരിയിലെ മാതൃഭൂമി സാഹിത്യോത്സവം 'ക'യുടെ ഒരു സ്റ്റാളിൽ തലയെടുപ്പോടെ നിന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകത്തെ കണ്ട് വീണ്ടും അങ്ങോട്ടോ ഇങ്ങോട്ടോ എന്ന് ചാടിയ മനസ്സിന്, കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഹരി ചിറ്റപ്പന്റ്റെ ഒരു ചെറു 'തള്ള്' കൂടിയായപ്പോൾ ശ്രീ എം പി വീരേന്ദ്രകുമാറിന്റ്റെ "ഹൈമവതഭൂവിൽ" അന്നേ ദിവസം എന്റ്റെ ലൈബ്രറിയിൽ സ്ഥാനം പിടിച്ചു.
സഞ്ചാരം ഇഷ്ടമാണെങ്കിലും സഞ്ചാരസാഹിത്യത്തിനോട് ഒരു അടുപ്പക്കുറവുള്ള ആൾ എന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് ഈ പുസ്തകം തീരേ മോശമല്ലാത്ത ഒരു വായനാനുഭവമായിരുന്നു. അഭിപ്രായങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കടക്കുന്നതിനു മുൻപേ ഒരു വിശദീകരണം - ഹിമാലയം, സഹ്യൻ, എന്നല്ല, പൊതുവേ മലനിരകളോട്, അവയേ കാണുന്നതിലേറെ ഭംഗിയിൽ ഒപ്പിയെടുക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകളോട് ഒടുങ്ങാത്ത പ്രണയമാണെനിക്ക്, അതിൻറ്റെ വിത്ത് മുളപ്പിച്ചതും തഴച്ചു വളർത്തിയതിയതും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട എഴുത്തുകാരൻ Ruskin Bond. "ഹൈമവതഭൂവിൽ" സ്വന്തമാക്കാൻ ഒരു പ്രധാന കാരണം, സ്റ്റാളിൽ വെച്ച് താളുകൾ ഓടിച്ചു മറിച്ചപ്പോൾ കണ്ണിലുടക്കിയ ഒരു വാക്യമാണ്, അതിങ്ങനെ "മുസ്സോറിയുടെ ഗാഥാക���രനായ Ruskin Bondഇനെ ഓർക്കാതെ ഈ പ്രദേശത്തൂടെ കടന്നു പോകാനാകില്ല".
എന്നാൽ പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ പിടികിട്ടി മനസ്സിൽ കൊതിയോടെ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച ഹിമവൽഭംഗിയുടെ പല ഭാവങ്ങളല്ല ഇതിൽ ഒത്തുചേർത്തിർത്തിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന്, മറിച്ചു, അവിടുത്തെ സ്ഥലങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു പൊതു സ്വഭാവവും, അതിനേ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളും, മറ്റു യാത്രാവിവരണങ്ങളുമാണ്. ഒരു യാത്രാവിവരണകുറിപ്പിന്റ്റെ ധർമ്മം ഭംഗിയായി നിറവേറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകം, അതിൽ Romanticism പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചത് തെറ്റ്.
എടുത്തുപറയത്തക്ക സാഹിത്യ സംഗതികളൊന്നും ഈ വലിയ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കുറിച്ചെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല. എന്നാലും ഇഷ്ടമായ കുറച്ചു കാര്യങ്ങൾ താഴെ കുറിക്കുന്നു.

What I Liked

- "സ്‌മൃതികൾ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലും, ജീവിതത്തിന്റ്റെ മിടിപ്പുകൾ വർത്തമാനകാലത്തിലും, പ്രതീക്ഷകളും വ്യാകുലതകളും ഭാവിയിലുമാണ്. ഇതാണ് ചുരുക്കത്തിൽ ജീവിതത്തിന്റ്റെ തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രം"
- ഗ്രന്ഥകർത്താവിന്റ്റെ കുട്ടിക്കാലവും വളർന്ന സാഹചര്യങ്ങളും പലയിടത്തായി പറഞ്ഞു പോയിരിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു പുതുമയുള്ള അറിവായിരുന്നു.
- ഐതിഹ്യമാല വായിച്ചു കുറച്ചൊക്കെ ഓർമ്മയിലുള്ള ആൾ എന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് അതിലേ കഥകൾ, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് "പറയി പെറ്റ പന്തീരുകുലം" എന്ന കഥയെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി അവയും ഇന്ത്യയുമായി ഇഴചേർന്ന് കിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളൂം സാഹചര്യങ്ങളുമൊക്കെ രസമുള്ള വായനാനുഭമായിരുന്നു.
- പുരാണങ്ങളായ രാമായണം മഹാഭാരതം എന്നിവയിലെ മുഹൂർത്തങ്ങളും അതത് സ്ഥലവിവരണങ്ങളിൽ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തിരിക്കുന്നത് മനോഹരമായാണ്. ഏതാനം ഉദ്ദാഹരണങ്ങൾ ചുവടെ കൊടുക്കുന്നു
- രാവണനെ കൊന്ന പാപം തീർക്കാൻ രാമലക്ഷണന്മാർ തപസ്സനുഷ്‌ഠിച്ച സ്ഥലമത്രെ ഡെഹ്റാഡൂൺ .
- 'ശിവ താണ്ഡവങ്ങൾ തുടിക്കുന്ന കൻവൽ' എന്ന ഭാഗത്തിൽ ശിവതാണ്ഡവത്തിന്റ്റെ രൗദ്രഭാവങ്ങളും ശിവൻറ്റെ പ്രേമത്തിന്റ്റെ ആഴവും വർണിക്കുന്നു
- 'പുരാണകൃതികളുടെ നിറവിൽ ഹനുമാൻ ച്ഛട്ടി' എന്ന കൃതിയിൽ ജൈനകൃതിയായ മഹാ പുരാണത്തിൽ ഹനുമാനെ 'അണുമാൻ' എന്ന് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചതായും മലയ, തായ്. കമ്പോഡിയ സംസ്കാരങ്ങളിലെ ഹനുമാൻ കഥകളും കൊതുകകരമായ വിഷയങ്ങളായിരുന്നു.
- ഗർഗ്ഗഭാഗവതം, അഷ്ടവൈദ്യൻ നാരായണൻ നമ്പൂതിരി രചിച്ച അതിന്റ്റെ വിവർത്തനം എന്നിവയെ പറ്റിയുള്ള വർണന ആ കൃതികൾ വായിക്കാൻ ഭാവിയിലേക്ക് ഒരു പ്രചോദനമായി തോന്നി.
What I did not like
കഥാകൃത്തായ ശ്രീ എം പി വീരേന്ദ്രകുമാർ ഒരു പ്രമുഖനും അദ്ദേഹഹത്തിൻറ്റെ സുഹൃത്‌വലയം വളരേ വലുതായതിനാലും ഒട്ടേറേ പേരുടെ യാത്രാനുഭവങ്ങളാണ് ഇതിൽ ഒത്തുചേർത്തിരിക്കിരുന്നത്. എല്ലാം തന്നേ ആസ്വാദ്യമെങ്കിലും ചില ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഇതൊരല്പം മടുപ്പുളവാക്കി (ഉദ്ദാഹരണം: ഇന്ദ്രപ്രസ്ഥം എന്ന ചാപ്റ്ററിലെ വിവരണം).
"ഹൈമവതഭൂവിൽ" പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച ഒരു വായനാനുഭവമല്ല പകർന്നത്, എന്നാൽ തെറ്റ് പറയാനും പറ്റില്ല. ഹിമാവാന്റ്റെ പ്രൗഢി ഒഴിഞ്ഞു മാറി നിന്ന താളുകളിൽ എന്നാൽ പുരാണങ്ങളും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളും സങ്കല്പകഥകളും ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളുമൊക്കെ നിറഞ്ഞു കളിയാടി.


734 പേജുകളുള്ള ഈ പടുകൂറ്റൻ പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചു തീർക്കാൻ നന്നേ പ്രയാസപ്പെട്ടെങ്കിലും ഒരവസരത്തിൽ പോലും ഇടയ്ക്കു വെച്ച് നിർത്താൻ തോന്നിയില്ല എന്നതാണ് ഈ ബുക്കിനെ പറ്റി ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയ വാക്കുകളിലുള്ള അഭിപ്രായം.
