Set in Lake's POV, and takes place in between Raised by Wolves and Trial by Fire.
As four close friends celebrate their sweet sixteen parties within a few weeks of each other, their friendships are put to the test by boy troubles and by their efforts to outdo each other in holding the party of the year.
Jennifer Lynn Barnes (who mostly goes by Jen) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has been, in turn, a competitive cheerleader, a volleyball player, a dancer, a debutante, a primate cognition researcher, a teen model, a comic book geek, and a lemur aficionado. She's been writing for as long as she can remember, finished her first full book (which she now refers to as a "practice book" and which none of you will ever see) when she was still in high school, and then wrote Golden the summer after her freshman year in college, when she was nineteen.
Jen graduated high school in 2002, and from Yale University with a degree in cognitive science (the study of the brain and thought) in May of 2006. She'll be spending the 2006-2007 school year abroad, doing autism research at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
This is a super duper short story of Lake's 16th birthday. So short it should just be called a chapter. I like Lake, she's feisty and here we meet her dead brother Griffin. I'm hoping there will be more to this story in Trial by Fire.
This is a little backstory (or sort of backstory) on Lake, nothing like what the summary says. This was centered on she and her brother, with some in-depth interactions and insight into the friendship/relationships of Bryn, Lake and Devon, including how Lake and Devon interact alone, and Lake's view on Bryn as a new alpha. Nice to see the POV of Lake and her own thoughts, observations and take on things, some of which I find to be particularly interesting in relation to Bryn and Devon but I will not spoil it by stating them here. Would have liked it to be longer. Like, a lot longer and with some one-on-one interaction with Bryn and the trio too (just to observe from Lake's POV), and a lot more on Lake's history with her brother and her entire family. Now...I NEED a Caroline backstory, since there is no fourth book anywhere in sight for maybe never. And an ALI one. I NEED to KNOW what's going on with the sudden appearance of psychics/witches and ghosts in Bryn's world. What's next? Vamps? Some insight into WHAT ELSE CALLUM HAD FORESEEN (maybe the ENTIRETY?) in the very beginning when he chose to mark Bryn as pack would also be really, really relief-worthy. Despite my comments, I did like this short chapter-side-story. Anything related to Raised By Wolves is welcome at this point after the third installment. If there's one after what happened in book 3 I swear I will jump for joy higher than a flea.
I loved getting a glimpse into Lake's mind and seeing hot she thinks. Well written, interesting, and enjoyable. I read this through the e-book bundle of all three Raised by Wolves books. I really enjoyed this.
This novella is set between the first two books in the, Raised By Wolves trilogy and focuses on Lake and her deceased twin brother, Griffin’s, birthday. This was a nice little story into the background of Lake and her brother. Though it didn’t add much to the overall story /plot of the books.
