BONNIE WORTH is the author of countless books for young readers, among them the Cat in the Hat Learning Library books If I Ran the Rain Forest, HarK! A Shark!, Oh Say Can You Seed? (winner of the 2003 Ohio Farm Bureau Award), Wish for a Fish, Oh Say Can You Say Di-No-Saur?, Would You Rather Be a Pollywog?, Ice Is Nice!, and Safari, So Good!
This is a great beginning informational book that talks about the different animals one would see on a safari in Africa. It talks about the animals, their habitats, and what foods they eat as well. It would be a great book to use to talk to children about Africa and the different wildlife we could find there if we visit.
This is the only Dr Seuss book that I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading. Feels like you are on an actual African safari and I got to learn so many new facts of animals and the differences between the different antelopes.
Edit: this was written by Bonnie Worth not Dr Seuss. I made the assumption because of Cat in the Hat. My opinion still stands: Dr Seuss shouldn’t have become an author.
My daughter Paige loves The Cat in the Hat and adores all animals so this was the perfect set for her! The Cat in the Hat: Safari So Good is a new DVD and book. She actually chose to read the book before watching the movie.
Sally and Nick go on a trip with the cat to Africa. They get to see all kinds of wild animals on their grand adventure. My daughter was naming all the animals and telling me she wanted each one as a pet! This prompted a discussion on the difference between wild animals and pets. I love how much my kids learn each time we read one of Dr. Seuss’s books. For some reason, the lessons stick more than they do with others. I think it has something to do with the rhyming found in his books.
The DVD is also about the safari adventure but obviously much more engaging! Paige loved all of the animals and hearing the different sounds they made and learning all about them. She particularly loved the part about footprints and we had a long talk about it. Now she shows me whenever she makes her own footprints. On a recent hike she also pointed out and named the animal footprints. (She guessed safari animals but I was still proud of her for noticing!)
Dr. Seuss has been around for so many generations because of his broad appeal to kids of all ages – and moms! Safari So Good is another winner for Dr. Seuss and is sure to be as beloved as all his other stories.
Safari, So Good is a book about Cat in the Hat taking children on a safari ride in Africa. It explores native animals and what they are like and their habitats. Hippos eat about 90 lbs of grass each night and a hippo's skin can burn in the sun so they cover with mud and water. There are two kinds of rhinos; one black and one white. Both are grey in color but the white rhinos eat from the grass and has wide lips while the black rhino has smaller lips and eats from trees. It is a good book for beginning readers and gives good information about animals.
The new Cat in the Hat books are very different from Dr. Suess's books. The rhyming and rhythm are not as good. The books are more educational. I like that my kids are learning about the safari and the animals without realizing it. The info is well researched, but not overwhelming. This one is my favorite so far. The "Wish for Fish" is pretty good.
I loved this book and found out some interesting facts that I did not know. Colorful illustrations, fun rhymes and easy to understand facts for children.

A fun way to learn about African wildlife. As with most Dr. Seuss books, we have rhyming verse that cleverly mixes with facts about animals we see on a safari trip. Great illustrations.
This is a really informative and helpful easy introduction to the animals of Africa for kids. Beautiful Seussical rhymes and clever pictures that reveal just enough without overwhelming kids.
This is informational about different African animals while at the same time still rhyming and fun illustrations kids would like that are different from regular nonfiction books.
