Graham Nicholls was born in London, England in 1975. From a young age he underwent various unusual experiences including visions, clairvoyant perceptions and later out-of-body experiences. Although his youth was also coloured by social problems, these experiences and the environment of London inspired in him a respect for other cultures and spiritual philosophies. As a teenager he began an exploration of his psychical experiences that would take him around the world and lead him to educate himself in a wide range of areas including science, mysticism and philosophy.
Graham also studied fine art, photography and documentary film at university. He had his first one person exhibition in Soho, New York City in July 1999 and has gone on to exhibit widely around the world. In 2004 he exhibited a large-scale virtual reality project at the Science Museum in London, which was based on a psychical perception of London's landscape and people. His work has allowed the public to experience a new perspective on art as well as what their consciousness might be capable of.
Outside of his artistic works he has also lectured widely on his spiritual and psychical viewpoints both in the UK and abroad. His first lecture was given in Oxford to an audience of academics, specialists and the general public. This first lecture was very well received and resulted in him being invited to talk at a large conference at Conway Hall in central London the following year. Since then he has run workshops, retreats and given many more lectures at venues such as Cambridge University, The London College of Spirituality and the Science Museum.
In 2004 he set-up the Shahmai Network, an organisation with a focus on spiritual philosophy and social activism. Their first social involvement was to become official members of the Make Poverty History campaign.
In early 2009 he wrote an article for Kindred Spirit magazine offering a retrospective of his out-of-body experiences over the last twenty years. The article also explores how he uses his art to further engage the public with his ideas on extended consciousness. He is also currently researching telepathy and precognition with author and biologist Rupert Sheldrake, as part of the Perrott-Warrick Project, supported by Trinity College, Cambridge.
Since around 2004 Graham Nicholls has appeared in most of the major press as a result of interest in his art, spiritual experiences as well as more recently for his views on relationships. He has also been interviewed in: The Times, The Independent, The Telegraph and on BBC radio, as well as many overseas and independent publications, radio and TV. He is also featured in three books by other authors.
This is a must-read for everyone who's interested in OBE's, because this is one of the few books written in a scientific perspective by someone who is actually not a scientist. No bullshit about silver cords and ghosts taking over your body, this book will sure help lots of spiritual people who are afraid to continue this practice. No new material if you compare it to other books but just his way of seeing things - even why he's vegan, makes this book interesting to read. The appendix has several exercises to help people have an OBE from both through waking and sleeping life. Perfect for any beginner who doesn't know where to start.
This book really surprised me, I expected it to be a rehash of the same old information, but it's nothing like anything I've read. In fact it explores the science in the area, hypnosis, nutrition, immersion, and sensory deprivation. Nicholls also approaches OBEs with a personalized program, so that you can really find the best methods for you. I really recommend it.
Not really a serious book about OBEs and certainly not a scientific study of the topic. With OBEs and other altered states of consciousness are hot topics for neurocientists this rambling set of anecdotes from a wanna-be guru with is in danger of dragging the subject back into the dark ages.
Ehh...
Unlike the other books, this book was well written and it has alot of techniques for obes, its quite radical idea, inlove the expanded mind theory just like collective unconscious carl jung.. may be we can fully undertand about out of body experiences through this perspective
Probably one of the best contemporary books on out of body experiences. I like that it provides novel techniques that other books don't. Although the techniques are novel, they are grounded in logic. If you're into astral projection/out of body experiences, this is a must-read book.
Excellent book! Very enlightening. Spirituality meets science. Contains loads of helpful advice on how to navigate the Out-of-body experience (>how to prepare for the OBE in terms of how to take care of your body, mind and soul).
