Fifty Shades Parody #1

Fifty Shades of Beige

Rate this book
While all the parody books for Fifty Shades have long passed into oblivion, this one still ranks on the best seller list week after week. For good reason. It's hilarious. Reid Mockery was the first to tap into the unlimited humor potential of EL James' books. To prove his talent is no fluke, Mockery released a sequel that was just as funny and a third that fittingly concludes the trilogy. If there was ever a book worthy of a parody, it's Fifty Shades of Grey. In Book One the laughs come hard and frequent. (No pun intended) If you read the real book, you will be delighted with this light hearted alternate version. The lead character is Annis Thesia. She's not that great looking, terribly naive and has fallen hard for Bobby Beige, Pittsburg's most eligible billionaire. The comic sexual exploits of this bizarre relationship will keep you going as you dive into the wild world of kinky sex with two total idiots.Unlike others, this parody stands on it’s own as a quick-reading fun little romp. While based on the best-selling trilogy, it has it’s own unique wickedness, sense of humor and dialogue. It doesn't matter if you loved or hated the original Fifty Shades books, this work will amuse you and you won't have to think very It does contain some foul language and very weird acts not meant for normal people. This is seriously messed up while being very, very funny. As a full 35,000 word mini-novel, you get your money's worth and it may actually make you murmur. The reviews are mixed almost exactly like the real books. Lotsa love. Lotsa hate. But, more often than not, this book has people who love parodies laughing out loud and reading passages to their friends. So, take some time and dive in to the crazy world of Annis and Bobby Beige.

Reid Mockery is Amazon's number one selling parody author. Consistently funny, he has successfully mocked Fifty Shades, Divergent and now John Green's The Fault In Our Stars. His work has earned a loyal following and he rewards his readers with fast moving parodies, that are short, cheap and guaranteed to brighten your day. Granted, it takes a special gift to be this stupid, but Reid seems to have it by the boatload.

Reid doesn't exactly look like Austin Powers, but he often channels his inner spirit. This image captures what Reid is feeling, so let's leave it at that.

When Reid Mockery makes parodic fun of a book, it is the greatest compliment that book can ever obtain.

He doesn't drink bottled water often. But, when he does, it's from Walmart.

Reid Mockery is so sexy, women buy and read his books by the thousands, just so they can run their fingers down the screen and feel his thick E ink. His words are like poetry, if poetry were entertaining.

He lives an anonymous life in the state of Tennessee searching for the next genre of books to skewer with his wicked sense of humor. Although he has written other books, he is best known for this best-selling parodies that make fun of the best selling books. This ground-breaking work has catapulted Mockery to the top of the Amazon sales charts to which Reid responds, "Yeah, Baby. Yeah!"

Did I hit the wrong button on my computer when I bought Fifty Shades of Beige here as a low-priced Kindle edition, or was it that the idea of such a parody maybe being better than the original? And with an author with the pseudonym of Reid Mockery?
Fifty Shades of Beige

It's impossible to miss all of the media hype surrounding the highly popular Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy by E.L. James. Like many, I've been curious about what all the fuss is all about, especially when I hear of libraries in Florida, Georgia and Wisconsin either not stocking the books or pulling them from shelves, with many citing what they say is inappropriate and explicit content.

This reminds me of Peyton Place the 1956 novel by the late Grace Metalious, with its famously suggestive beginning: "Indian summer is like a woman. Ripe, hotly passionate, but fickle ..." That book sold 60,000 copies within the first ten days of its release, remained on the New York Times best seller list for 59 weeks, and became a book that was passed around among teenagers who had lifted it from their mothers' night stands, with many dog-eared corners marking "the good parts." The novel, or at least the title, lived on. "Peyton Place" was turned into a juicy, but slightly tamed movie starring Hope Lange and Lana Turner, and later a wholly domesticated TV series, starring Mia Farrow and Ryan O'Neal.

But regarding the original Fifty Shades of Grey, a Random House spokesperson was quoted as saying: "Random House fervently opposes literary censorship and supports the First Amendment rights of readers to make their own reading choices." Can't say that I'm surprised, since as of this writing, Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy is holding the #1 spot in books and Kindle editions on Amazon, and at almost ten bucks a pop, that's a lot of cash coming in for both the published and for author E.L. James, a TV executive, wife and mother of two, who is based in London.

For those who don't know, protagonist Anastasia Steele meets Christian Grey at his corporate headquarters in Seattle, and their relationship could not be more lopsided. Anastasia is a recent college graduate and a virgin in all explanations of the term. Mr. Grey is a handsome, brooding billionaire, and he's so accomplished in the arts of domination and bondage that he asks Anastasia to sign a contract of servitude.

In any case, if you have a Kindle, you can follow the link above and sample the beginning of this E.L. James' e-book for free. See if it's your cup of tea or whatever; that's what I did.

Not dropping any spoilers about the original, the product description says: "When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too--but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success--his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family--Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires."

That's about right from what I saw in the sample of the original, but Fifty Shades of Beige: A Parody by author Reid Mockery (and isn't that a perfect pseudonym) takes a somewhat similar tack. We have a protagonist named Annis Thesia (and read her name out loud), a lead character that narrates her story from a first person perspective, as can be seen in this from the first chapter:
"I walk into an office the size of an average parking lot and of course the walls are painted a light beige. The couches are beige and carpet is plush and beige. Mr. Beige is sitting behind a huge dark wood desk pecking away at his keyboard. He looks up at me and stands up. The only thing that is not perfect about him is his necktie. It doesn't match his jacket. But, Oh. My. God. He is gorgeous."

Compare that with the product description of Fifty Shades of Grey, and you'll see why I laughed quite frequently at this parody, a fast read of an estimated 109 pages. The main difference is that Annis Thesia, also a virgin, is the one who assumes the dominant role in this often-comical relationship. The author's writing style is quite witty, and as a comparative example, Annis Thesia meets Mr. Beige in his office in Pittsburgh, yet their first encounter actually takes place at Bobby Beige's 'love cabin' in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania (yes, the home of that illustrious groundhog Punxsutawney Phil). How they arrive there required that I put my coffee down as I was reading, as the dialogue and description were truly comical.

Some readers will be able to draw comparisons between this and that now-classic Candy, written in 1958 by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg, a satirical novel based on Voltaire's Candide.

But be warned: author Reid Mockery's book has some very explicit sex scenes and trashy dialogue, and it's not one for those with tender sensibilities. It's a mini novel that's a fast read, and if you enjoy a good spoof and don't get turned off by the very explicit terms and acts depicted here, then author Reid Mockery's offering here will probably be a good replacement.

We've all seen the media hype; save your money and read the parody.

A parody is one thing. A GOOD parody is another. This is the latter.

Consistently funny throughout, “Reid Mockery” has put together a near-perfect counterpart to Fifty Shades of Grey. It follows the plot of the original very closely, poking fun in all the right places. It also manages to poke fun at the characters and their motivations underscoring it. Time and again, I found myself thinking, ‘That IS what that character is like, and it IS ridiculous!’
In a way, I think I understand the Grey characters BETTER after having read this!

And it was one of the very few times I found myself actually laughing out loud while reading a book.

A very funny book, I look forward to reading Mockery’s take on books two and three in the series! Many a laugh to be had!

After skimming through the original, I felt this book was primed for a parody. I found this on Amazon for a little price and it fit the bill nicely. Lots of laughs provided in just a few pages and cheap price. A good deal. Those looking for something that makes fun of Fifty Shades of Grey will be satisfied.

This is the only 50 Shades parody I have read but for a 99 cent kindle book it was really funny and written well for the most part. I have not read the original 50 Shades books and probably never will.

If you've read 50 Shades and even if you hated it, you'll appreciate this book. It's absolutely hilarious. With characters named Annis Thesia, Tease McGroin, Dumas Rodriguez and Bobby Beige how could it not be?!

"Did you just take a picture of my poon?"

the best FSoG parody I've read so far .. unlike the others, it stays along the same story line as the original FSoG, vs. making up a stand alone story .. some of the scenes and conversations are from the original w/a twist of parody .. loved it and recommend it for anyone w/a sense of humor and a love of spoofs

This had it's funny moments and definitly hammered the weaknesses of the original, but it didn't have the finesse that other parodies i've read have. Maybe the quality of the material being parodied has something to do with that though... eg. Shakespeare parodies are more hilarious because Shakespeare is so awesome?

This started as a very funny "LOL" parody of Fifty Shades of Grey. As it went on, it got a little less funny and a lot more stupid. If I had not read the original "Fifty Shades" trilogy, I would not have even slightly enjoyed it.

This is another parody of fifty shades of grey, and its not that bad. In some places it made me laugh, and l was able to get through it in about 3hours. It has a role reversible with the man being the sub. There are some sex scenes in it, but it was pretty funny

Loved this! I feel like I appreciated it more because I read the grey first, but it is probably just as hilarious as a stand alone book.

I don't think I've ever laughed so much reading a book! Definitely have to read the actual Fifty Shades books first, or this one will make you cringe.
