What would you do if a ghost told you to get a life? ...Izzy flees to the countryside to make a new start. Away from her fickle fiance, the interfering ghost of her dead father and his sex-hungry mistress. Not only do all three follow her and shatter her peace, but she's also joined by Jodie, her annoying younger sister, and her mother going through a startling life change. The serene village of Hanningdon is about to become very busy indeed.
But Izzy makes a discovery to put all this into the shade. A beautiful and disturbed young man living in the oak tree outside her window. A treeman with a mysterious gift and an even more mysterious past. And a brother who makes everything much more complicated.
The infuence of their late Romany grandmother, Mari, still holds strong over the two brothers and over Hanningdon itself. And Izzy seems to be the key to unlock their secrets, their hearts and the magic of Mari.
Funny and compelling, the story of Izzy and the Treeman will keep you in suspense to the end, with a host of outrageous characters.
An intriguing romance, with a dash of danger and a splash of paranormal activity and magic.
I wanted to write from the age of eleven and have enjoyed a varied career in copywriting and health information. I returned to creative writing through theatre, creating musicals with my collaborator Kaye Tompkins for over 10 years, and gaining representation through The Sharland Organisation. My hat off to all fellow indie authors - I'm proud to stand with you. It's hard work but empowering. I have a new website under development in early 2021, but until launch, you can find my latest news at www.facebook.com/KayeVincentWriter and my books at amazon: http://bit.ly/KayeVincent
This is a superbly crafted and expertly developed debut novel, in my humble opinion. There's no doubt that The Treeman has been a labour of love for author Kaye Vincent. There's a rich tapestry of colourful characters in this mini epic of a magical tale. The story, centred around Izzy who gets caught up in a gripping mêlée of emotions and relationships, is delivered at quite a pace. There are few wasted words in this book and there are surprises all the way. It's intriguing and very compelling. It's quirky and ethereal, with occasional paranormal goings-on, and yet it's refreshingly down-to-Earth. At times it's very funny, but equally tragic. Romance and deep-seated passions underpin the narrative. In some respects it's quite complex, but above all, the sheer quality of writing makes it an easy and enjoyable read all the way.
Loved this first book in The Hanningdon Magic Series – started it on a Sunday and couldn’t put it down, finishing it at 5.30am on the Thursday of the same week! I always knew there was more to village life and here you have it in Kaye Vincent’s debut novel where Hanningdon village becomes the stage for the confluence of a series of intertwined stories which just beg you to turn over the pages to find out what is going to happen next! It’s a tale for all ages, including the search for self, strong emotions, romance, humor, magic, fantasy, music, fashion, nature, family ties and much more.
The Treeman!...What a captivating, entrancing and dreamy read with heart racing moments. I felt like the characters manifested into people that I knew and grew to love and truly became a part of my life that I will never forget. Please hurry and write more to the Hanningdon series as I haven't quite had enough of their intoxicating journey of excitement. Highly Recommended, opens up to a whole new world, very addictive read.
Loved this book. The characters are interesting and have normal reactions to things. They are so well written I can actually picture them inside my head. Great storyling, very different. Would recommend this book.
Kaye Vincent took me through a terrific journey through an enigmatic landscape where the destinies of different interesting characters are woven into a tapestry that reveals such unexpected finishes. Music and Poetry, all done by the author, bring the transitions to life throughout the story. Although it's almost overwhelming to keep track of the many different relationships throughout the build up, you will inevitably pick your favorites (good luck with that because there are so many good ones) and cheer for them, hurt for them, love for them. Each back story is compelling, interesting, and paints a vivid picture of each personality. As if that weren't enough, this terrific author adds a supernatural element that enhances the course of the stories. I admit the title threw me off, but you'll be shocked at how apt it is. A tree has more than one root, and blooms into many branches, but inside, everything is connected just like in Hanningdon. Have fun delving into the hearts and minds of Izzy, Jodie, Jay, Fergus, Shonna, Daphne, and so many more unforgettable personalities. You might even recognize some of your own acquaintances in them.
I really tried with this. I honestly did. I couldn't get past 36%. I think that's a fair try. It bugged me to no end. I couldn't get into it enough to read it in long stretches. I found the characters exaggerated and too literally described.
Some things in this book made me cringe; descriptions that sounded like they were written by a twenty-year-old. At one point, a man in the book who is at least 30 is given dialogue of a MUCH younger man and it just didn't sound believable.
Part of me really wanted to find out the mysteries behind the Treeman, but the girls Jodie and Izzy were sickening and irritating. The whole book reeked of trying too hard, and didn't flow subtly when portraying plot events.
A disappointing read from such a promising summary.
I was intrigued when I picked up this book- gypsies and magic and trees- but it was a real disappointment. The prose was confusing, disjointed, and grammatically incorrect- occasionally poetically and intentionally, but usually just proved the author's ineptitude and lack of a copy editor. The characters were, frankly, annoying, unduly light-minded, disturbing, and odd. I'm sorry to say that I did not get very far into this book before I had to set it down.
