He was the presence that was always in her dreams. He was mostly the backdrop but at times he came to the forefront. She never knew a time when he wasn’t somewhere in her dreams, either watching in the distance, or standing just behind her. For all of her young life, Leslie has lived two realities; the one that happened in ‘real life’ and the other that took place weeks or months before--in her dreams. No matter how bad, Angel was always there to watch over her. He never grew older and she didn’t think to question his presence. And then one fateful day, Angel shows her a series of events that will change her life and send young Leslie into a tailspin that will test her very sanity. In this multicultural, paranormal romance, Pepper Pace weaves a tale of a tragic and disturbed young girl whose fate is written…or is it? Adult content and graphic scenes.
Pepper Pace is the pen name used by the author. Born and raised in Cincinnati, she has always enjoyed creativity. At a very young age, Pepper had a gift for art and would spend most of her spare time drawing images that she later began adding stories behind. Soon writing became more important than the illustrations and though she still loved art, it took a back seat to her real love.
Pepper wrote her first novel when she was 12 years old and had written 2 more by the age of 18. Too shy to share her work with anyone, Pepper stock piled her many stories into notebooks until she came upon Literotica.com and was compelled to share her craft.
Pepper became instantly popular and won several awards each year in which she submitted a story to the site. After receiving popular feedback, she grew in confidence and created a popular blog entitled Writing Feedback where she encourages her readers to interact with her on topics concerning, music, writing, art and pop culture, and can be contacted at her blog: pepperpacefeedback.blogspot.com/
Pepper lives in Cincinnati where many of her characters also reside.
It is so hard to write a story that you feel no one has ever written before. And harder still as a reader to find that story. Angel Over My Shoulder is such a story. Having read a couple other books by Pepper Pace, I was pretty sure I knew somewhat what her approach might be to this story -- unlikely lovers, damaged people, the ones we overlook, finding love. And there was certainly some of that, but she took it up several notches with this one.
This is a love affair across time, space and reason, that should not happen for reasons well beyond the difference in age and race of the main characters. The utter unlikelihood of their love made me keep turning the page, the curiosity about how she would pull it off. And pull it off she did. This book reads unlike any of the others of hers I've read, and as a writer, I thought I could feel the effortlessness with which she told this story-- like it was one of the stories she was (dare I say it?) destined to write. I see from the rankings of her other books that this one is perhaps not the most popular among those she's written, and I can only guess that it's because it is nontraditional, has less erotic sex and defies expectations that fans may have for this author.
But I was completely satisfied. I read this book as a reader AND as a writer, and found that my satisfaction was not dimmed in the least on either count. So far, by FAR my favorite of Pepper Pace's work. Excellently done.
This is absolute BRILLIANT storytelling. This easily could have become a confusing and messy story but Pace kept control over her writing and in the end we have this beautiful story. This reminds me of a Japanese movie with a similar premise but not really lol. That being said I would love to see this adapted into a movie or a limited series.
s/n the Japanese movie is called My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday and I HIGHLY recommend it and I do this story.
Oh Gosh I did not like this book at all!!! First of all I love some of Miss Pace's books that I've read, WOS, Stranded, Juicy (my favourite) and of course Crash! But this particular one is just down right depressing and annoying to read!****spoilers alert*** Leslie is one miserable, angry, depressed lonely woman who was sexually abuse by her uncle, cuts herself, takes drugs, has no friends, has sex with different men, while waiting for a fancy "man" called angel who she ONLY sees in her dreams. Yea that's right! Anyways long story short, Leslie and Alan aka Angel never actually met in reality UNTIL the last two chapters of the book and guess what? Leslie was 40 in a stable relationship with some sucker called James, while angel aka Alan was JUST turning 19!! Now tell me how perverted does that sound! The ending of the book makes no sense! This is not the HEA I would like in a book called "romance". The thing is this book is not a romantic book, so if you are looking for romance skip this and read the ones I mentioned earlier. Also why does Miss Pace always have women in their 40s falling for 19 year olds! Makes no sense whatsoever. I know Ms Pace's books are kinda different but it needs a good balance. Well folks for me, I did not like this book and was actually angry reading it cos I was trying to ensure that I got my money's worth. I wish I can return it though, but I can't cos I've had it on my kindle to read for awhile.
OK You were right Sabrina This books is good I understand the concept completely and I wish I had a angel over my shoulder. Leslie had a hard life but she had someone looking after her while she was growing up her Angel. When I first starting reading this book I was thinking why does my friend make me read all this weird books? Then as I continued to read I could not put it down because I wanted to see what happens next. I wanted to see if Leslie would meet her Angel and how the story would play out. I loved it I wanted Leslie to be happy and when she met her Angel she finally was. Good Job Pepper Pace I am gong to stop doubting your books because they are not main street romance from now on I just going to read them because they are always wonderful.
After reading the synopsis provided, I was hesitant to read the book. I felt that it would be too predictable but I took a chance and read the it. When I began reading it, I autamotically thought that it was exactly what I had perceived. Still, I forced myself to continue and shockingly I enjoyed the book. It was definitely unpredictable. Yes, there was the happy ended, but lets face it, it wouldn't be right if there wasn't. The actual plot leading to the end was what brought the unpredictability. Personally I believe readers will either love it or just find it "not a complete waste of time". It wouldn't kill you to read it, so just READ IT!
Another winner from Pepper Pace, for me. Leslie and Angel were in each others dreams all of their lives and eventually found each other in reality. As usual, Pace's stories are engaging and interesting. No fluff and writing just to fill pages. A great romance story.
Great story but too short...I've thought about this concept too. How soul mates become... Thanks for writing it. I love Pepper Paces stories...very well rounded writing on the characters. A beginning middle and end. Love that.
Pepper Pace is a writer. She touches on everyday pain and happiness. Her stories pull you in and stay on your mind. Leslie and her Angel went through pain and suffering together but cam out happy on the other side
This book is a second time read for me. I had to return to the characters of Leslie and Angel because of how unique their story is. I enjoyed reading this book because the romance is so different than anything else I've read before. IThe beauty of this story is the connection that Pace establishes between her Leslie and Angel. She takes the reader on a journey that is believable. She writes about a love that has to stand the test of reality and dreams. I still felt some of the emotions from the first time I read this book. I would reccomend reading this book if you love stories about finding and keeping true love. Also, if you enjoyed this book check out the cover of the song, "Open Your Eyes" by Tha Los...pure magic!
Okay, this has to be THE MOST WEIRD & off kilter book that I've read by Ms. Pace so far. But that still didn't keep this one from turning out to be awesome.
Whether it was the main characters, the chemistry between them, or the oddly placed yet somehow still fitting & gripping plot; I don't know. Maybe it's all the above. But in any case, I still loved it.
There is heartbreak, confusion & uncertainty like none you've ever witnessed, here. But you're still left with that unwavering all too familiar feeling of "True love knows no bounds" and that all things happen for a reason.
I would recommend this read. It's definitely a different type of flow from Ms. Pace but still a good rhythm.
The age difference through me off. Pepper Pace, as usual, was brilliant in how she made this work and turned the world around and upside down but the lives fit right back into there rightful holes but it was a bit..... different. It's a great book, don't get me wrong, but ...... I needed more. It's kind of an Other-worldly, Spirits colliding kind of Romance. I enjoyed the read but I just wanted more.....
I read this book ages ago when the author posted it to a website. I wanted to read it again but couldn't find it until I searched on here. It took me two days to read & I have to say it's just as good as when I read it the first time. Well written, the characters are believable and I just love the plot. I wished it had been a little bit longer but that probably would've dragged it on haha. I know that it was written awhile ago but, I think the author should write a follow up? Maybe tell us Angel's/Alan's side of what happened between him and Leslie? But anyway I recommend it, very good read
I have only read one other of Ms. Pace's books and I liked it much more than this one. I completed this book in a day because I was curious about how it would end. However, without giving too much away, I found the difference in ages between the love interests to be a little more than disconcerting even though the reason for the drastic age difference was explained. The novel ends with the possibility of a sequel.
Pepper Pace has a habit of weaving paranormal with romance and making it seem normal. Leslie and Angel's is such a story. You have Leslie living her life but goes through tragedies with help from her Angel. Even when things were bad Angel was their. I love how the relationship developed and how dream meets reality in the mysterious tale. I love it!
Pepper Pace did a wonderful job with this book. Her imagination continues to amaze me. You will fall in love with the two main characters, Leslie and Angel. Pepper put a different spin on this book which made me hesitant to read it but ultimately glad I did. This book will not disappoint.
What a wonderful and sweet book. I was so full of joy while reading this. It made my heart flutter. It is certainly different and I only put it down to sleep.
