One temperamental Colorado cowboy + one phony ad campaign + one quirky NY ad exec = one wild Rocky Mountain ride in Destiny Wears Spurs! Monica Hammond—NY ad exec at Hammond’s Advertising Agency—will do anything to save her father’s company from her ex-fiancé, but she never imagines that will involve working beside cowboys on a Colorado dude ranch. With the boss looking like the centerfold for a Hot Men of the West calendar, her slogans sound more like an advertisement for a singles' ranch than a family run operation. While Cody Rafferty—owner of Rafferty’s Remote Ranch—only agrees to need a phony ad campaign because he owes her father a favor and her crazy antics are making more work for him than it's worth, but he can't help rooting for the spunky little spitfire. Destiny Wears Spurs is a great western romance. Monica Hammond (Mo) is the advertising agencies owners daughter. She works for her dad Stanley Hammond. He sends her on assignment to come up with an ad campaign for the Rafferty Ranch, the kicker is, NY City girl, Mo is going to work the ranch for the summer as a ranch hand.
Cody Rafferty, owner and proprietor of Rafferty Ranch, is doing Stanley Hammond a favor by allowing his “son” Mo, come to his ranch to propose a bogus ad campaign. Little did he know that Mo was a very attracted young women that he can’t keep off his mind.
Destiny Wear Spurs is packed full of funny, healing, friendship, heart ache and betrayal. Perfectly balanced, this book gave you a jam-packed western romance that will have you laughing out loud and crying for the character’s losses. Loved this book, it was the perfect typical romantic read and it hit the spot :D.
Um.. I got to 17% and I gave up. Monica is the worst female character I have ever read about. Im sorry but the author turned that girl, what was supposed to be some kind of high-classed classy ad exec?, into a dumb, douche dim-witted broad who seemed like a 13 year old. It felt like I was reading some book written by a little girl crushing over a man who was twice her age. Was a waste of time. Thank god it was free
Book Review- Destiny Wears Spurs by Kari Lee Harmon
A city girl comes to play cowgirl for the summer. Monica is coming to save her father’s company from her ex-fiancé. She is so out of her league but is determined to win. I like that aspect of her personality. She is trying to do the right thing. However, she came across as ditzy and dumb at times. It didn’t mesh with what the author was trying to get the reader to believe. Come on Monica is a smart and talented woman, there is no way she would be so inept at the chores that Cody gives her. That irritated me. I knew she was smart, and I hated the way the author presented her as an idiot at times. Cody was more realistic. His character was more aligned with what I’d expect with a true cowboy who lives the ranch life. The other cowboys were a hoot to read about. They game some comedic relief to the whole story of angst, broken hearts and betrayal. The story had a fluffy air to it. Meaning there wasn’t a lot of depth to it. There could have been. The potential was there. It felt like Monica would take two steps forward in reaching her goal then become a complete idiot and slide backwards. It drove me nuts. I liked the storyline and believe the characters would have bee awesome. I don’t think the author truly developed them very well. Plus, I don’t like flighty female lead characters. Monica was smart, let her be smart throughout the whole story, not only when she is in her element. I give this story a 3 out of 5.
Monica or MO as she goes by most often arrives at Rafferty's Ranch to work and come up with an ad campaign. She is trying to save her father's company from Wendell a man she was engaged to. She thinks he is trying to take down the company. She starts off working and she stumbles over a few situations that make you sit back to laugh and to think how she gets herself in theses things. Cody starts taking notice for her as she starts to learn and he knows a few secrets that he has to keep from her. Once she finds out can she trust him again and will Wendell be found out for a fraud or is Mo exaggerating?
A good read, yes some situations might come across as far-fetched, but keep in mind we are talking about a woman who has lived in NY all her life and has never been on a ranch. It is not easy work.
I thought the characters were well done. It was nice to see Cody open back up after is ex-wife cheated on him. We also see Mo make some changes and grow a bit along the way. The setting was great you thought you were there on the ranch as well. I will be reading more by the author.
Destiny Wears Spurs is a fun contemporary cowboy romance.
I enjoyed Mo's many faux pas moments, and Cody's icy exterior that was destine to melt. The author created characters that really sizzled. There was lots of sexual tension and will they, won't they moments. There were additionally a couple of quite moving moments that took me unaware.
The author has produced a well-developed plot, one that I enjoyed reading.
This book was Funny ,I loved Monica. "Sweet dreams, darling.Call if you need me.Remember,I`m a light sleeper.I hear every thing. "Drop dead.Did you hear that?"she spat and enter her cabin, slamming the door and flipping him the bird. She hoped he had x-ray vision as well". Yea Loved Monica, and Cody was not so bad either ;D
The general storyline was OK but I found the female lead (Mo) just too annoying. I prefer strong female leads. Mo made some really questionable choices and the things she did made no sense at all. Perhaps I took the book too seriously? This is a light, “fun” read but just wasn't my thing.
Picked this freebie up after an interesting synopsis and was pleasantly surprised. It has good flow and interesting plot and engaging characters you can connect with. Fun little read to pass the time
This book was hard to get started until I got to the halfway point when the drama started. I'm not into 'farm animals' nor did I like the characters very much but it was a free story!
