Tailor Made

Rate this book
Escaping life on a farm, sexy Wyatt Taylor runs to the nearest city after college where he finds and loses both love and employment. Down but not out, the handsome young man rebounds by landing the coveted position as assistant to powerful Portland, Oregon, business tycoon, William Bowen. Cold and precise, the mogul has a rarified life of privilege that leaves no room for error.

Thrust into a world of jet set travel and caviar, Wyatt is given little direction about his new career and is fitted with a designer wardrobe. Clothes may not make the man, but Wyatt loves the beautifully tailored suits, wearing them like modern armor without realizing a connection between the way he looks in his new work “uniform” and Bowen’s clients.

Aside from being handsome, William Bowen has everything: an estate, private plane, and clients worldwide. Only his taste in men is questionable. His astoundingly poor judgment in that area confuses everyone around him, including his flippant, funny, and in-charge property manager who befriends Wyatt but has his own reason for not telling all of the secrets of Bowen Industries.

A sudden change in Wyatt’s personal life while on a business trip is followed by a bonding night for Wyatt and William Bowen, the long simmering feelings Wyatt has held toward the boss since the day of his interview nearing a boiling point. Wyatt is still blissfully unaware of his true role in the operation of Bowen Industries, however.

Can two men from opposite sides of the tracks find a level field for a relationship, or will the truth behind the façades keep them apart?

Tailor Made is a funny romp about a naïve, and slutty young man suddenly thrown into the shark pool of business.

Wyatt is unemployed and available, meaning that with the recent economic downfall, he found his job cut like many others. His current job, after his business degree that truth be told didn’t teach him nothing of useful. Instead his previous career, the one he did to pay his study, taught him a lot: Wyatt was a porn star. Now it was actually easy for Wyatt since he would have sex anyway, he plenty enjoys to have sex whenever and with whoever he fancies at the moment. So when Wyatt lands this new job as special personal assistant of William Bowen, he doesn’t question much why his only apparent job is to be nice to William’s business associates; and if most often than not he ends having sex with them, for which he receives nice money gifts, again, Wyatt’s naiveté makes him things it’s only a fringe benefits of his role.

We follow Wyatt’s adventures with a smile on the face since he is so innocent and yet so scandalous that you can only smile to his antics. One time Wyatt’s conscience makes him try to leave the job, he still hasn’t understood what is actually happening, but he does wonder something strange is going on, but when William doubles the offer of tailor made suits, plus a company card and a no limit credit card, what a boy has to do, if not say thank you and fly to Lady GaGa’s concert in a private jet?

Even if I lost count on how many men Wyatt did sleep during the novel, sex is not actually the main reason for this novel; it’s more a funny tale than an erotic romance, and even if sex happens, it’s not detailed to the reader. And even if Wyatt has a love interest in the story, this novel is pretty much focused on only Wyatt, he is the one and only, and even if he is dumb, you will see that, in the end, he is the smartest of everyone since he will manage to land exactly what he was searching from the beginning, a wealthy husband that will allow him to be the queen of the house, and like Queen Elizabeth (I and II) teaches, with all the power in his hands.

2,5 stars. I liked the writing and the first person POV was good for some funny insight.
But it was just not my kind of story. The MC seemed dumber than a stone most of the time and all the alcohol and drugs didn't do him any good in the brains department either. It was a really strange love story if you even want to call it that at all. I also didn't really buy into this "go prostitute or starve" storyline when two pages down the alternative is going home and working on his parents farm. The MC came across very shallow and his "love interest" (his distant boss) was not likable at all. It remained totally mysterious to me why and how they fell in love.
But because I liked the writing I will definitely try another one by the author.

After losing his boyfriend to his best friend and then also losing his job Wyatt Taylor lands a job as assistant to powerful business tycoon, William Bowen. He is quickly thrown into a world of jet set travel, expensive clothes and entertaining clients. Although Wyatt is given little to no direction about his responsibilities as Bowen's "Assistant" Wyatt does his best (while taking full advantage of the perks)to go along with what ever his boss wants.

William Bowen is both rich and powerful as well as good looking not to mention cold. With an estate, private plane, and clients worldwide why must his taste in men be so questionable? And what does he really want from Wyatt? When the truth comes out Wyatt discovers things aren't always what they seem when money, friends and Xanax are involved.

This book had me laughing so hard. I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it with the price being so low. It was definitely worth it. The main character Wyatt, although an idiot, was so likable and funny I couldn't help but root for him (while also wanting to knock him upside his head).

My favorite part of the entire book though was the endless nicknames Wyatt had for his two roommates/exes (ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend). Every time he mentioned them, which was a lot, he had a different combination for them. It wasn't until the end of the book you found out their actual names. If you just want a fun read this is the book.

i liked the story for the most part but there were instances where the grammar/editing could have been better (to the point that I actually comment about it, though not barring the story for probably about 5-15 paragraphs, the text probably needed rewording)

also while the story is semi-cliche but still semi-shocking (probably due to the fact that I have not read too many stories with a mystery that goes un-investigated by the narrator, but my mind is dirty to begin with so... yeah)

also I would have loved more explicit sex scenes that were narrated by the narrator and the boss the narrator has a developing crush on (although the narrator does describe sex scenes with other characters, and he and his boss *almost* had sex in one part of the book, it got interupted so we don't get as graphic between them compared to others)

However the characters were enjoyable to read about so I'm giving this book a 2 star rating because it was okay and even likeable in some aspects, but it could have been better. (the lack of sex is acceptable as I just probably didn't read the description well enough and I bought this book like in 2011 or 2012-3, though grammar would have at least made it 3 stars for me, and probably more for those who don't particularly prefer long sex scenes in their romance novels).

Thoroughly enjoyable light read. More of a novella than full on novel. Story is about Wyatt who at the beginning is unemployed and after doing porn to make some money during this time ends up at an interview for a PA job to business tycoon William Bowen. It follows Wyatts "ups and downs" while employed by Bowen and although there is sex in the story it is not of the explicit kind which I really liked. The story is told mostly in first person and is a very easy flowing read.
James Brock is a new author to me and after reading this I am looking forward to reading more of his work.

Oh, naivete. A perfect character trait in certain instances. This being one of them. I recognized some of my own traits in him that thoroughly endeared me to him. Tenacity, occasional lack of critical judgement (though mine rarely lands in situations near as bad as his), and last but not least his resolve to survive whatever life threw at him (including William Bowen). This was a good read. It was not too serious but nor was it too fluffy (although I do enjoy fluff sometimes), with a HFN ending that leaves you with a sense of satisfaction.

OMFG!!!! I laughed so hard my tummy hurts. It is a super funny, light, and very touching story. Ah yes it also is FUNNY. It was worth repeating. The writing is clever, witty and give a sassy tone to the whole story, even the less funny ones. I loved Wyatt from start to finish: his was always so real and flawed I just relate. Reminded me on my clubbing days... Goodness it was like a flash back!! Oh and the amount of pop culture in this book is PRECIOUS!!! 4.75 for me.

I did not like this book at the begining but I do not like to not finish a book and so I perservered. I am glad I did because it took a while to see the story develop and although not the best mm novel I have read I did enjoy it. There were moments of humour that worked well and some film references that were not needed. IMO.

Loved, loved loved it. I think the main character is hilarious and sexy! Not an easy character to write, I would think. Plot was great! The love interest, William, was sexy, but I didn't quite buy his abrupt change at the end and thought he was kind of an ass for fooling Wyatt. Still, Wyatt was such a great character, I loved this book.

All of these characters are pretty lazy or creepy or lying cheats or slutty with minimal reframing character traits. I felt no concern for anyone bc they all made crappy decisions based on self interest. What a woofer.

On page 12 and this is it for me. The writing style is tedious, with long winding sentences (the author obviously has a preference to add content in brackets) and I'm sorry to say - nothing funny in it for me.

This book was okay, had a little bit of a hard time following the writing style but I liked it after a while. Really wasn't a big fan of William, even at the end. Felt sad for Wyatt and yet strangely annoyed at him as well.

I don't leave that many reviews but this book had no story line....the book just seems to be about a guy who sleeps with his boss's clients and then ends up being with the boss. it could have been a better book if some emotion was showed

I really enjoyed this story as Wyatt hurtled from one disaster to the next. It was let down by poor editing - odd typos and a general lack of punctuation that made long sentences difficult to read.

I didn't give it one star only because there were parts that made me laugh. Overall, there's an unlikely plot and the main characters were just a big mess.

Sometimes I had trouble following what was happening or who was speaking. For the most part it was a quick read but, the ending was just very confusing and to happily ever after for me.
