Their long-ago affair had ended too abruptly. And Dr. Micah Westmoreland knows Kalina Daniels hasn't forgiven him. But now that they're working side by side, he can't ignore the heat that still burns between them. This time, there will be no question about his motive...he plans to make her his.

This book was a complete dud. Kalina and Micah had an affair 2yrs ago, and all they talked about for more than half of this book was that affair, and most of the talking was done to themselves in their own heads. It really was quite boring. The term "2 yrs ago" was said so many times during this book it just became too much. Yes the reader knows 10 pages in that something went down between these two in the past, but to keep talking about it for 100+ pages of the book is just a complete waste of time. These two had little chemistry, and the two or three love scenes that they had just didn't do it for me. More of this book should have been focused on these two reconnecting and rebuilding their relationship, and less on thinking and speaking about the past, and also their careers. Thank goodness for book swaps.
First off I love Brenda Jackson! She was one of the first African-American authors that I discovered back in the day. So she always holds a special place in my heart because I didn't know they existed when I discovered her. OK so this is the love journey of Kalina and Micah. These two doctors met years ago specifically two years ago and hit it off tremendously but they both only wanted to have a friends with benefits type of relationship. All is good until Kalina he's lied to by her father. She breaks off this friends with benefits relationship with Micah. Of course Micah 'a manly pride is bruised and they don't talk or see each other for two years. When they do meet two years later tension is high she still mad he still upset. What I like is how Micah worked it out with Kalina. I'm sure you will love it too I recommend this book to you.
I have followed BJ's Westmoreland series since the beginning and enjoy catching up with them everythime a new book comes out.
I did like this one but I really felt that from the middle onwards it was rushed and towards the end we seemed to be going a million miles an hour......I think that if this book had more pages then a better job would have been done!
4 stars. I liked that this was a second chance romance. Micah is out to prove his innocence to Kalina since she feels like he worked with her father to betray her years ago and she’s still hurt from it but their chemistry is undeniable. Kalina is headstrong and I loved her and how snarky she was. Micah is charming and I liked that he was bit broody. I think they worked really well together. The push/pull in this was fun and everything wrapped up really well in the end. Loved it.
I love Brenda Jackson's romance novels, however, this one was so elementary and full of fluff. I'm glad that it was audible only 4hrs and I didn't have to spend too much time on it. I am really getting tried of the Westmoreland men "being the only one that ever made me feel this way" REALLY. Stop it.
Il problema di questa saga è la mancanza di spessore dei libri. Le storie sono carine e avrebbero potuto essere davvero dei libri belli, tuttavia le storie sono troppo affrettate e avrebbero potuto essere approfondite adeguatamente.
Once again the ending sucked. I can only give it 3.5 stars.
It's almost like she writes the sex scenes, realizes that she's reached her page (or word) count, and just abruptly ends the book. Great story - but that sloppy ending just really ticked me off.
Ms. Jackson is back at it again, this time with the Denver Westmorelands. This clan seems to grow exponentially, each one sexier than the last. Feeling the Heat lets us into the world of Dr. Micah Westmoreland of the Center for Disease Control. He and his love interest, Dr. Kalina Daniels, had a brief hot and steamy affair two years ago while working on an epidemic is Australia. Kalina’s father, a military general, is obsessed with controlling his only daughter’s life after the death of his wife, using his military influence to shield her from the more dangerous assignments. A lie told by her father, ended the affair in Australia and separated the two for two years. Now, they are in the same room…again! Micah, being the determined Westmoreland that he is, had decided enough is enough and two years of misery has to come to an end. After a terrible romantic hurt during his college years, he vows never to let another woman close, but Kalina has found her way into his heart. Kalina, convinced her father was telling the truth, has written Micah off and won’t care less if she never saw him again. Oh, but she does. Heat flares as the two reunite after a miserable time apart. Micah is determined to clear his name and give Kalina the opportunity to get to know the real man. Kalina is determined to keep him at arm’s length despite the feelings he stirs in her simply by being near. Just when she thought she would be able to steer clear, they are assigned to work together. Unsure if this is her father’s manipulation or Micah’s, Kalina resigns herself to do her job and resist the only man she has ever loved. As the two work together to resolve a mysterious contagion in India, Micah turns up the heat in a BIG way. Smart and sassy Kalina doesn’t stand a chance against the inferno Micah presents. After two weeks of a cat and mouse game, Kalina consents to return home to Denver with Micah to discover the “truth”, and all bets are off. It’s hard to determine who is seducing whom, but tragedy strikes and both of them have to stop the game and make a choice. Ms. Jackson, a master at weaving the romantic, feel good story, adds another chapter to the growing list of Westmorelands. These stories are quick satisfying reads that keep hope alive that Mr. Perfect may very well exist. So, Feeling the Heat by Brenda Jackson gets 4 out of 5 pencils. Good job!
This book was a good example of how NOT to write. There was way too much narrative telling and very little action. This also tends to reduce tension in the storyline causing a reader not to care about the story. However, I wouldn't have rated this book so low except for what the author did near the end - 10 pages from the end of the book, the author decides it's a good idea to have a terrorist-release virus epidemic. Then the author apparently thinks that it's ok to solve that mystery in literally 5 pages WITHOUT GIVING US ANY DETAILS and again by narrating it to us. This is a quote of how the author leaves us with this plot line: "The antidote had worked, and millions of lives were saved. Homeland Security had arrested those involved." Seriously? That's all you're going to tell us? On top of the fact that her scenario is completely impossible (not just improbable), I felt like she was writing down to us, like we as readers aren't intelligent enough to figure out that her storyline is complete crap! Sorry, but I'm a scientist and an intelligent woman, and this author just managed to piss me off.
In addition to the narrative problem, the male character seemed too arrogant. He never learned or grew as a character. I ended up hating him from near the beginning.

You had me with a case of long lost love. Dr. Micah Westmoreland works as an epidemiologist for the Center for Disease Control. Two years ago he had an all too brief (2 months), but hot and steamy affair with Dr. Kalina Daniels in Australia. The affair abruptly ended with Kalina's controlling father told her that Micah participated in their affair by her father's urging, only to keep her in Australia and away from a more dangerous assignment. Rather than talk to Micah, Kalina assumed it was the truth and ended the affair. Micah didn't chase her because pride dictated that if she believed him capable for such a thing then they weren't meant for one another. But now it's two years later and Micah's feelings for Kalina haven't lessened. So when he sees her across the ballroom he knows what he must do and winning her trust and reminding her how good they are together is where he plans to begin.
This book had a strong start with a great deal of anticipation but it takes nearly 3/4 of the book to get the story rolling. By that time you're over it and there isn't much to anticipate. Both characters were likable and you're rooting for them. I love the long lost love kind of stories as well so you'd think this one would have done it for me. Everything simply feel into place a little too conveniently and slowly for me to rate it much higher than a 2.
I've been reading this series a long time, and I'm no longer as in love with them as before. I think it might be the writer's style. I'm not a fan of the choppy sentences. Sometimes, her descriptions toe the line of purple prose. And there are problems with flow and organization - which are more editorial than writing style; just putting a certain sentence at the beginning of a paragraph instead of the end would make a huge difference in many cases here. But, this book almost got a 2, simply because of the last 10 pages or so. What a waste of plot to throw in the virus outbreak and do nothing with it really. And for General Daniels to be described as such a controlling and commanding character, when he appears on page, he says less than 10 words. And don't get me started on the out-of-left-field pregnancy. I am neither a fan of how it was just dropped in there like an afterthought, nor that these 2 medical professionals overlooked a back-up form of birth control. But, the surprise pregnancy seems to be part of Mrs. Jackson's formula.
This was a super short novel, in fact I'd call it a novella and I can't say I'm all too impressed with it. I'm pretty darn sure it's part of a series of Westmoreland books, however this book was cheapened by so many things. Such as, the emotional barriers that author placed on the characters, the general plot of it all was hardly any plot. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy simplistic plots but this one had like three mini plots along with one regular one. What I can say way amazing was the passion and sexual dialogue, it got pretty steamy with that. Mmhmm. Other than that I didn't find it too entertaining.
Micah and Kalina were together once upon a time and Kalina's father broke them up. When Micah sees her again, he knows he is in love with her, needing to change his ways and hunting her down and changing her sure fire opinion of him. When he starts opening up to Kalina more, Kalina starts falling in love with Micah and wanting to be with him forever!
AA romance is a relatively new genre for me. I'm embracing it with the help of Brenda Jackson and Beverly Jenkins. This is an episode of the Westmoreland family that is an easy read and helps to transition from any title that one feels they need a break.
I like Ms. Jackson's romance style - intimate situations are written classily (IMO) making it effortless for me to enjoy.
Published in 2012, this romance has been on my shelf for a long time, glad I finally got to it.
Micah and Kalina are a great couple, with much heat in these pages, and this is a fun second chance romance. The author, Brenda Jackson, is a Black woman. Are the Westmorelands also Black? Could be. I preferred imagining them, and the Westmoreland family, as Black. But a white reader can imagine they're white, if they prefer. The cover is a pair of glasses of wine, and there aren't any descriptions of the couple, besides them having brown eyes. It's a sad fact that many white readers will not buy a romance with a Black or interracial couple on the cover, or even if they *know* it's about such a couple, even today, ten years later. So, marketing decision by the publisher, I suspect.
It speaks to the author's skill that although this is the 22nd in this series, and gives a peek at couples featured in other books in this series, that it doesn't feel like a retread, nor spends too much time rehashing earlier stories. There's plenty of "butter," lavish settings and erotic heat. If those are up your alley, give it a read, or others in the series.
Second time around with honesty and raw emotions. . . Overall 4 out of 5 stars Performance 4 out of 5 stars Story 3 out of 5 stars
Kalina and Micah did not find their first time around to be successful, but of course it was just suppose to be about sex. Kalina finds that it may have been more than that where Micah was concerned. Micah finds that Kalina should have known better than to believe lies about him. One thing he did not figure in to that was that his relationship with Kalina was superficial. She knew very little about him outside of work and the bedroom.
The chemistry was there but the true romance took a moment to surface. Kalina was smart to be cautions and Micah was determined to be successful. Their second time around will be meet with honest and raw emotions. The chance to get to know more about each other on a deeper level.
Avery Glymph did a delightful job. He brought to life the character with clarity. I could clearly tell that this was a couple of ethnic backgrounds. The diction and tone between male and female easy to determine.

Two years ago, Dr. Micah Westmoreland and Dr. Kalina Daniels had a hot affair. That ended when her father lied to her. She had not reason not to believe her father and Micah had always said that he wanted sex only so she broke off the relationship. The first two-thirds of the book is REALLY slow. It's a hash and rehash of the fact that Micah and Kalina had sex then it ended badly. Then... the first part of the last third picks up and then the last part is lightspeed. Good lord, the pacing of this book gave me whiplash. I would have given it two stars but I really liked how much Micah owned his own culpability in their affair ending.
Naawwwwwwwwwwww I think I'm over this series. The ending was rushed and unsatisfying It just didn't do it for me. I was a bit crazy frustrated with the idea that "we had sex before, so she must want it now regardless of the words coming out of her mouth" That's rape sweet heart, not 'playing hard to get' I've been spoilt by some recent books doing this marvelously.
Heroine was too mean and stubborn and kept harping on what happened 2 years before (I don't even think what hero was accused of doing was all that bad, so what if she didn't get to go to China??). I did like that they were both celibate for the 2 years separation. The chemistry between the 2 was believable. P.
Feeling the Heat. This book was greaat! A big misunderstanding causes two people that knew they were in love their future. But Micah refuses to lose. He is determined to gain Kalina's love again once he shows her how he really feels and that the mistake was not on his part.
The Westmorelands are a diverse group that comprises a together family. The two characters were dealing with their baggage and unpacked as usual in the author's love stories. Sometimes it is good to get carried away.
A short and sweat love story about two doctors who go off into the sunset and live happily ever after. I love novels that give that pie in the sky feeling.
Really enjoyed Micah and Kalina's story. Second chance romance. He needed to prove he hadn't done her dirty like her father had lead her to believe. This was such a good story.
