Hello, shoozhrii Matt Gilbert ooshii. Thanks for visiting this website. I'm a writer, filmmaker, and business man. I've worked in Interior Alaska, Southeast Alaska, Albuquerque, Anchorage, New York City, and Fairbanks, Alaska. I am Gwich'in Athabascan originally from Arctic Village, Alaska. I grew up in Arctic Village and lived most of my life there, but have worked all over the country and have even studied at Oxford in England.
I have a Bachelors Degree in English-Rhetoric and Literature and studied under award-winning authors, until I became one myself. I have two books published by two different publishers and one more to come. I am a former journalist, columnist, scientist, and teacher who has taught high school english and Gwich'in language classes. I have been a guest speaker in many college classes and have done popular book signings.
A useful intro guide to running, although I did recently google 'What do I do with my arms when running' so the bar for what I find helpful is admittedly low. Hoping to use it to get me from 5km to 10km distances!
It is good to read and re-read every now and then. A lot of details and data . This is perfect for a guy that love facts . A lot of pictures but does not focus on muscles , anatomy and mechanics of movement while running. I recommend it for runners that want to dip deeper into science behind running.
The basics of running AND with helpful pictures! Gotta love this! This book is also based off of Runner's World magazine which is a bonus in my oppinion
Seriously, I did it, I read a book on running...yawn, right! Not really, surprisingly. I have been running my whole life and never gave it much thought, but now I have seen how much there is to consider. For someone who always considered running just a crappy form of transportation, I really got a lot out of this book. It covers everything - stretching, nutrition, preventing injuries, treating injuries, strategy for running long distance and more. A lot of good info on hydration and old bad science on hydration. For nutrition, covers types of food to eat and when plus what you might eat while you are running. I like that it draws from different experts in various fields on training, medical and nutrition. I always tend to evaluate which books to read by their sources, at least non-fiction. I am putting this book on my reference shelf as I expect to refer back to it from time to time. I am doing a charity run this week and a couple later in the year, so this whole running thing may turn into something that I do. If I could say one thing, I wish I had read this book prior to volunteering to do these runs so I had more time to prepare properly, but going forward it will be helpful I am certain.
Yes, I tackled this book on running, and found it actually very easy to read, plan and execute a program that worked for me. Chapters on stretching, diet were essential to help me progress to where I wanted to be. In fact, this book is now one of my goto references if I'm thinking of talking an up coming race or want to change up my training.
I would recommend for anyone whether beginning or a veteran marathoner.
Highly recommended! Great advice and tips on getting started, motivation, nutrition, race goal training plans, cross training, injury prevention and recovery and more. I read the beginner sections a couple of years ago and keep coming back to read more articles that are more relevant for me now. Extremely valuable for the price.
Read the complete guide to women's running (couldn't find the book) Had a lot of interesting tips for someone who is just starting out to run. Can't wait to start some of the exercises to help me become stronger and be able to run longer.
I walked by this magazine so many times wanting it but then I thought to myself "who needs a book about running, I already know how to run.. one foot in front of the other right?" and so my last trip to the book store I saw it AGAIN.. so what the heck, it obviously wants me to have it. I just finished reading this after breakfast this morning and oh my.. I think I am on information overload, it was great.. filled with such great advice and tips on how to become a better runner, how to recover and so much more. I have so many sticky notes filled with info from the magazine and it is honestly kind of overwhelming but so good. I highly recommend this to a beginner runner(like me).
