Rate this book
Registered sex offenders in Treasure Valley have started showing up dead, killed with apparent violence and forethought; and Detective Nate Richards finds himself pitted against a psychotic killer set on ridding the valley of the unclean. When Chrystal Johansson, the only female on the killer's list, barely escapes the attempt on her life, Richards takes her into protective custody. Driven by a voice he calls God and a group of men he calls the Uncles, the killer sets a deadline of two weeks to complete the valley's cleansing. Around him, the community divides about the actions of the vigilante. Some hail the killer as a modern day knight, only doing what they wish they could; while others curse him as being part of the sickness he claims to fight. With the deadline quickly approaching, and the city threatening to tear itself apart, will the killer fulfill his calling or will Nate stop the killings before another victim turns up DEAD RIGHT THERE .

Great story, and thought provoking.
D.R.T. is the second book in the "Nate Richards" series by Ray Ellis. The story in this novel moves at a pretty fast pace, and there are a few sub-plots moving through the story as well, which keep your interests piqued in a few different areas. The unfolding of the story's antagonist is very well done, and the development of this character flows through the book until the very end. In this novel, we get a glimpse into some of the darkness of the world that many of us don't see on a day to day basis, and in the end, the story strikes an emotional chord. The author does a very good job of presenting how law enforcement officers must deal with these sorts of dark situations, and at the same time provides an exciting and entertaining story. D.R.T. is the best "Nate Richards" book so far, and sets the stage nicely for the next in the series.

Following on from N.H.I, this is yet another great detective story. Focussing around the complexities of forgiveness and revenge, this book tackles deep issues in a meaningful way.

Nate's character comntinues to be well-rounded and one of the greatest features of the writing is the way in which his personal and professional lives intertwine in a truly captivating fashion.

I was really excited to read that another book, I.A.I, is due out at the end of the year.

n D.R.T. (Dead Right There) by Ray Ellis, a serial killer targets registered sex offenders living in the Treasure Valley. The killer has a list of victims and a deadline to get his killing done. Detective Nate Richards is assigned to the case and when he and his partner thwart the killer's first attempt on the only female on the list, the killer becomes desperate to finish the job and the list.
Ellis is a police veteran and gives D.R.T. a sense of authenticity. At the same time, D.R.T. is a well-crafted and suspenseful story. While, the identity of the killer is revealed early, Ellis introduces two other characters that kept me guessing as to what their role in this is.

The nature of the crimes at the heart of DRT are emotionally charged as we're dealing with the perpetrators of horrendous crimes against children. Ellis avoids extremes and handles this aspect of the story with great sensitivity.

In addition to the crime story, Richards personal life provides a well-developed subplot as he deals with the return of his love interest from the first novel after a year and a half of her not contacting him.

Overall, the novel is a well-done and suspenseful story that captures both the ups and downs of a policeman's life, but also the attention of readers.

What the murdered victims all have in common is that they are all registered sex offenders. Nate and Mac make a good working team in tracking down the perp. At first, I found myself wondering about the involvement of one or two possible suspects until it became apparent. Even then I had wondered about a particular person’s culpability. I was surprised still.

Along with working the case, Nate is faced with other decisions that he can not put off for long. His mother seems to be lovingly pushing him in a particular direction but now might not be the best time.

After a chain of books from various authors that failed to move me, this one finally did. There is Christian talk within but it’s not really preachy; It’s tolerable.

I like the main characters; They have real issues to deal with in a practical manner. I also appreciate the lack of sex and the romance not being over the top, proving that a well-written realistic story can stand well on its own.

A body is found in the streets with a jagged bullet wound on his temple. The victim appears to be a convicted sex offender. Soon two other bodies are found, apparently killed by the same person. Detective Nate Richards and his new partner Mac are set to the task to find the killer.

Finding the killer is not the only challenge Nate has to face. What about his friend Amber who has left to consider their relationship? Will she be coming back and is Nate willing to wait for Amber to make up her mind?

Just like the first book, D.R.T. is a real page-turner. Again events have an unexpected course even till the last chapter.

Being a veteran law enforcement officer, Ray Ellis knows what he is writing about. He knows how to draw the reader into the story. You can see the events and characters as if painted before you.

His books also opened my eyes to the hard reality thousands of people have to deal with.

I really enjoyed D.R.T. and look forward to reading Insidious.
