Conquest #6

Heartstrings

Rate this book
When violinist, Nicholas “Las” Lamont would make his treasured violin sing, he could transfer the emotion of every piece to his listeners. That was before his passion faded. As Las performs the last concert on his tour, he realizes his lackluster playing goes against everything he used to love about music and he has two choices; rediscover his love for music, or stop playing.

Quinn Patrick, the leader and drummer of the Scottish rock band, Lions Rampant, lives for music. The instant he and Las meet, Quinn sees in him a man with a beautiful gift, but who’s lost his way. He wants nothing more than to bring back the sensitivity and passion that made Las the virtuoso he is.

The more time Las spends with Quinn, the more he learns about what it is to love music. But if he’s to truly find happiness, he must open his heart not only to music again, but to Quinn as well.

This review was originally written for Hearts on Fire Reviews and can also be found there.

It does seem to be my issue first and foremost, but from some authors I do expect more. I was a sworn fan of the Conquest series, for the first two books at least, and there wasn’t a soul who didn’t receive that recommendation from me at the time. I honestly LOVED the relationships, the music and the beautiful writing. But as I kept on reading further, the magic seemed to be missing more with each new book.

Heartstrings is about Las, a famous violinist who seemed to have lost the good feelings when it comes to his music. What he once loved and lived for, isn’t as fulfilling and he’s on the lookout for something new. In a spur of the moment he goes to visit Julian, his academy friend and the current member of the band Conquest. Las has this idea of joining a rock band to attract more fans and give back that spark to his music that has been missing.

During the visit he meets Quinn, a drummer of a new band Phoenix has just signed in. There is a connection between them from the start and while Las is rather insecure and has that common commitment disease, he soon gets over himself and gives Quinn a chance.

In all honestly there’s more than enough to appeal to the reader in this story. From kilts and hot gay guys to the whole band-mania we all so love to read about. If that’s not quite enough, just the appearance of the Conquest members will tickle anyone’s curiosity and most likely lift this book high up to the list of favorites. And then you have Tanner, the absolute STAR in my opinion and the pretty much the best reason why this book is worth reading. But unfortunately, Heartstrings in not about Tanner and I’m sidetracking.

I can’t help it but see this book as a string of repetitions. It seems like the author has decided to stick with what works and give us the same story told from the view point of different characters and expects us not to notice. Classical mixed with rock music – check; world famous artist losing interest – check; abundance of sex scenes – check; commitment issues – check… There comes a point where original requires certain effort and with a serious and well liked author as S.J. Frost, it’s more than expected. In addition to having the feeling that I’ve already read this book more than once, I also disliked the fact that nothing really happens to keep things interesting. I didn’t expect accidents, cheating episodes or anything similar, but any type of conflict to keep the story on edge would have been welcomed.

I did love the side characters, as previously mentioned Tanner as well as Kendra, Las’ manager, but when it comes down to it, side characters are not meant to carry the book and that is ultimately where Las and Quinn failed. If they had managed to get out of bed long enough to tell us what made them so special and liked by the masses I would have been first in line to cheer them on.

If there ends up being a sequel to this and it happens to have Tanner as the main character I will certainly read it, but anything else, I’ll pass. I do however recommend this to all the fans since I’m certain the book will be well liked. Music, kilts and hot guys. Go for it.

Seriously, what did the author think? Writing a hot novel about a Scottish rock star meeting a classical violinist and letting him wear a kilt? A KILT? And not any kilt but a hot, black leather kilt! OMG!

The story is well-written, cute, and loaded with hot sex and beautiful romance. I instantly fell in love with Quinn and Las, but I also adored the other members of Lions Rampant. Tanner was just hilarious and Corbin and Finley were so cute together.

Of course Jesse, Evan and the rest of the Conquest band members make their usual entertaining appearance. It's so nice to meet all of them again.

I know the next story will be Brad and Remmy's but Tanner needs his own story, too. Who is going to be able to tame this guy???? He has to have nerves of steel and the patience of a saint. Pretty please? :)))

I didn't realize how much I missed the Conquest boys until I started to read this one. It was great to check in and see what they've been up to. They're great as ever, and I hope this series keeps on rolling...at least until Brad and Tanner get their story...and if that story happens to be both of them together than that's even better. Oh, and we can't forget Remmy. Even though his appearance was mere cameo, he is still a great character that deserves a book of his own. Oh and I do foresee a bit of jealousy brewing between Tanner and Remmy over Brad?

Now, back to Heartstrings. There is a new band in town, Lions Rampant, and they are opening for Conquest during the UK portion of their European tour. And what a band they are, 4 Scottish guys in kilts, not skirts babe, kilts. And we all know what differentiates the two, oh yea. I love guys in kilts. The drummer Quinn and Las(or LaLa, or Nicholas),a world class violinist and friend of Julian's from Conquest, hit it off instantly. They are so hot together...seriously, kilt sex is hot.

This story is probably the tamest, sweetest and least angsty of all the Conquests books. I prefer a bit more angst normally but I still enjoyed myself and can't wait for the next one.

This was every bit as cheesy and sappy and implausible as the rest of the series, and I loved it every bit as much. This whole series feels more like I'm reading fairy tales than contemporary romance. And I LOVE it! I love that the characters get to be happy nearly the whole way through, and have very little angst to work through as their dreams all fall neatly into place.

I love that a character can complain about his friends' pda when he's the only other one in the room with them, and then go on a date that night and hold hands in public. And I love that Quinn was amazing enough that I didn't for one second question Las's sudden change of opinion.

I love that we get to keep seeing how happy Evan and Jesse, the original fairy tale Conquest couple, are together.

Most of all, I love the feeling I get as I read these books. Exactly like a fairy tale, I know that everything will be perfect in the end, that the heroes will all be happy and everything good that can happen for them will happen.

Another beautiful addition to the series, and I'm already looking forward to rereading it!

P.S. I also love the whole new appreciation for kilts that I developed while reading this!

This story takes us away from the two bands we've already been introduced to and adds in one more, the new opening act for Conquest. A group of Scottish rockers all set to tear up the rock world. Enter one of of Julian's old Julliard friends, a virtuoso violinist whose lost his passion for his music. Nicolas "Las" has always enjoyed mixing up his style and not playing strictly classical tunes but somehow picking up his violin has become a chore and the love has been lost.

I enjoyed watching Las rediscover himself and his love of music through Quinn. The story was a little inevitable where it was going to go, but it was fun to see all the boys from Conquest and I liked Las and Quinn together. As is typical of these books it's a little insta-lovey but in this kind of tale it doesn't bother me over much. Everything's just a bit "extra" in the world of rock and roll. Still I liked the new characters introduced and Quinn and Las were very sweet. 4.5 Stars overall

Once again a little unexpected (refreshingly so) as this story follows the relationship of two newly introduced characters that we haven't seen in the previous books of the series. Earlier characters take a much smaller role in this book.
Las (never heard of Nicholas shortened to Las before) is a classical violinist and Quinn is the drummer for a Scottish band that supports Conquest for part of their tour. The story was sweet and an enjoyable read however lacked any big climatic moments. Attention of detail with the dialogue was excellent, showing the differences between Scottish and Americanisms. For example, "mom" was used when Las was speaking but "mum" was used when Quinn was speaking. For some reason this really stood out.
Probably 3.5 stars when compared to first 4 books in the series (number 5 was really only a short story).

S J Frost's conquest series is a guilty pleasure of mine. They are like reading a m/m fairytale. Nothing but sweetness and loving support of friends happen in these books, and that is why I pick one up when I am in the mood for something light and easy.

Heartstrings is the story of Quinn, the drummer in the Scottish band Lions Rampart and Las, a classical violinist who is an old friend of Julian from Conquest.

We catch up with all the Conquest boys, and that is always a part that I enjoy.

If you are a fan of this series, this book is a good addition.

Well, this surpassed all the previous installments. I simply adored this story, with its low angst and plenty of love (between lovers, between friends, to music) openly expressed.

The mushiness that irritated me so much in some of Conquest's stories, here, although it's still, is well controlled.

Las is standoffish at the start and he goes loosening chapter by chapter, so he's a bit hard to love. I loved the rest of the guys, especially Quinn and Tanner. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a story for the latter.

The only thing that really seemed wrong was Las's choice of La Califfa during the concert in Edinburgh; in order to force the coincidence with a pivotal point of the story, the pertinence of such a piece in a rock concert was sacrificed. But since it's a matter of taste and it's a little detail, it doesn't detract from my rating.

Review Summary: A cotton candy-like story, it’s sweet, good for a beach read (especially if you like rock star stories), but without a lot of substance.

Review: This was an enjoyable story populated with beautiful people. There were no real surprises – except how conveniently everything fell into place – and one bit of blatant stupidity that shocked me. I’ll share what that stupidity was at the very end of the review, so those who want to avoid any sort of spoilers can ignore it. But if you know about it going in, maybe your jaw won’t drop quite as hard as mine did.

I had trouble liking Las at times, finding him disappointingly shallow and thoughtless. I loved Quinn, and feared Las wasn’t good enough for him; a fear shared by Quinn’s best friend (and obvious sequel-bait), Tanner. However, by the end of the story Las had redeemed himself sufficiently for me to appreciate their HEA. And despite feeling a little manipulated, I’m looking forward to Tanner’s story.

Quinn was the perfect man: kind, intelligent, talented, gorgeous, and with a Scottish accent to top it all off. Although I adored Quinn, there were a couple of times I wanted to smack him. I also questioned his musical avocation at one point when he claims to have never been as enchanted by music as he was listening to Las play. I get that it was supposed to be a statement of how moved he was by Las, but I really wondered what sort of musician Quinn was to not have gotten more enchanted at some time or another when actually playing himself. I also thought they were “in love” awfully quickly, but then I dislike Insta-Love. While these guys didn’t do that, exactly, they were closer to it than I am quite comfortable with.

Having spent some time in Edinburgh in January myself, I laughed hard when Quinn implied it wasn’t all that cold. I was there with a Canadian friend who conceded “it was a bit nippy”. He was wearing a leather jacket, while I was bundled up like the abominable snowman and shivering anyway, Californian that I am. So I could easily imagine Quinn’s machismo in the face of such cold. And I appreciated the opportunity to revisit Edinburgh Castle.

I frequently struggled with the head-hopping POV changes that occurred randomly every few paragraphs whenever the two men were in the same scene. For what it’s worth, despite all the complaints of head-hopping in Cut & Run, it’s never bothered me; not on any of my many rereadings. So this is either more egregious than that, or I just wasn’t as into it. I’ve noticed I pay much more attention to technical details when I’m not as engrossed in the story. Whatever the reason, I frequently found myself reading back a few sentences, trying to figure out whose head I was in now.

It was fun seeing the characters from Conquest again, though I think Jesse and Evan get more treacly each time I see them. Overall this was an enjoyable story, good for whiling away an afternoon on the beach.

Now for the spoilery bit. Scroll down for it or stop reading here if you don’t want to see it.

Still with me? Okay, here it is: Las and Quinn bareback after just a few weeks together, no tests, and minimal discussion. Especially considering how much we’re told that Las slept around before Quinn, that struck me as insanely stupid.

Heartstrings by S.J. Frost is a fabulous book about rediscovering your passion and opening up your heart. If you have read any of Ms. Frost’s Conquest books than you will recognize some of the secondary characters in this book, but you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this book because this story seems to be the start of a breakaway series with a new band from Scotland called Lions Rampant.

The story is mainly told from Nicholas “Las” Lamont’s perspective, but the reader gets glimpses of other people’s perspective as well. (To get a glimpse of the inspiration for Las, check out the author’s blog here. I hope you enjoy the eye candy and discover some fun music as I did! http://sj-frost.blogspot.com/2012/05/... Las is a world class violinist who was recognized as a virtuoso at a young age. Las and his violin, Angelo, make beautiful music together all over the world, but for the last few years, Las has lost his passion and knows something must change. Las has decided that in order to experience the passion again, he needs to become more famous. Chasing this goal puts Las in the recording studio with his friend from Julliard who happens to be part of a world famous rock band. While in the studio Las meets the recently signed rock band Lions Rampant, and more importantly their leader and drummer Quinn Patrick.

Unlike Las, Quinn has lived a hard life, but Quinn is still able to hang on to the joy of playing music. Quinn helps Las rediscover that spark within that helps him access the passion he’s lost. As the story progresses, we are introduced to a great cast of characters including all the other members of Lions Rampant who are great fun and I can’t wait to see what happens to Tanner. Tanner is like Quinn’s little brother who also gives Las the nickname La La, which I love.

The story that S.J. Frost weaves together is one filled with love and passion. It is a reminder to get back to the basics when it seems that hope is gone. I love this tale and look forward to reading more about all the rockers in this world that Ms. Frost has created! If you like stories of passion rediscovered, unexpected true love, rockers, a Scottish brogue, and hot rockers in kilts then this M/M story is for you!

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

This veers away from the usual suspects in the series and introduces us to a world renowned violinist and a new band. If like me you hope to see Jesse, Evan and the boys fear not as they do make an appearance.

Nicholas ‘Las’ Lamont has lost his music. Technically he is still brilliant but emotionally he just isn’t feeling it and he is at a loss as to what to do. When his first thoughts are to gain more fame and have more people applauding him he gives his old friend Julian Forrester from his Juilliard days a call with the idea of joining Conquest on stage. Whilst meeting up with Julian at the recording studios he runs into a new band, who are also going to be the opening act for Conquest, Lions Rampant.

Lions Rampant are not a new band on the scene but they have had their problems in the past and are only now getting the success they deserve after signing with Phoenix Records. They are led by their drummer Quinn Patrick who lives for his music and looks after the rag tag group that are his band mates.

When he is introduced to Las it is lust at first sight but two more different men you couldn’t meet. Whilst Quinn tries to guard his heart and is looking for Mr Right Las is all about quick and instant gratification and doesn’t often do a second time around.
After a night of getting to know each other that sees them end up in bed together Las runs and returns home with nothing but a quick note left for Quinn.

Although Quinn plays an important part in the story this was really about Las. As he slowly lets his walls down he finds he has friends who he likes and trusts for the first time in years. He realises that love isn’t a scary thing just as he realises he has fallen in love for a quirky kilt wearing Scot. He finally finds his music and it wasn’t in the place he thought it was but much closer to home.

There are some new and crazy characters introduced in this story and the one that deserves the biggest mention is Tanner. Having found himself in a bad place and luckily for him Quinn coming to the rescue his take on the world and his attitude had me laughing all the way through reading Heartstrings.

This book has new characters in store for the fans of the Conquest series. Nicholas “Las” Lamont was a renowned violinist whose passion for music started to fade a long time ago. He’s looking for something new that will re-awaken said passion.

Quinn Patrick and his Scottish rock band, Lions Rampant lives for music. Upon meeting Las, mutual attraction ensues and Quinn sees something in Las that he yearns to find out.

With their growing affection for each other, will Las be able to open his heart not only to music but to love as well?
This was a very well written book and I loved these new characters especially the childish and naughty Tanner. Oh gawd, please give that kid his own story!!!! ASAP!!!!

The story was very well developed with Las finding his way again into recapturing his passion for playing and finding love at the same time. I also adore Quinn’s nurturing nature towards Tanner and his passion for what he’s doing. It was a solid story yet again from S.J. Frost and fans of the series will totally go gaga for this.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

P.S.
S.J. Frost – gimme Tanner’s story please…. ^_^

It really pains me to give this book ONLY 2 stars, but that's just what it was for me, an ok read. I really had to force myself to keep reading, I kept getting bored, and probably would have just set it aside if it wasn't a challenge read.

Everything was just all so easy. No real angst, no real emotion. I didn't feel like I connected with Las at all, although I liked Quinn well enough. At the beginning, Las seemed quite shallow, although he did improve by the end. I prefer my characters to have more of an edge, more depth, but from what we know, Las has had a pretty charmed life, he's just bored.

Everything seemed to fall perfectly into place. Even with Las did the wrong thing to Quinn, it only took a few minutes (ok and yes, flying across the world) to get him to forgive him. I tend to like more tension and more buildup in my stories. For a book that's as long as this one was, not very much seemed to happen at all.

I liked the first 2 books in this series, and Black Heart Down, much more than this one. I still maintain that SJ Frost writes some of the sugary sweetest rock star men I have EVER read.

This has been sitting in my TBR pile for a while. RL and other stuff just seemed to get in the way, but I finally got to it and finished it this morning.

I loved Las and Quinn. I am a lover of most things from the
UK (perhaps because it's my own ancestry or just because it's awesome), so this was especially sweet. Quinn and his band mates are hot hot hot! And the leather kilts? *SWOON* I know that Shannon has said that David Garrett is a little bit of her inspiration for Las and I have to say, since seeing him in London in 2007, he is wonderful inspiration. For lots of things :)

This is not really a Conquest book, but more of a companion story, although we do get a nice visit with those boys as well. I loved the banter between Tanner and Brad and would love to see where that is going to go. This story did not include some of the angst and obstacles that some of the other Conquest stories have - the conflict is mostly internal here. And I for one was happy for that break.

I do hope that we get more of these guys - especially Tanner and Brad and even Remy! Thanks again Shannon for another wonderful read.

This was a wonderful story! The blurb pulled me in straight away and as soon as I started reading it I struggled to put it down. Heartstrings focuses on Quinn Patrick of the band Lions Rampant (an opening act for Conquest on their tour) and Las Lamont, who is an old friend of Julian Forrester's. Even without the boys of Conquest taking centre stage in this book, it is still a fantastic novel. It definitely lives up to the others in the series and is just as good, if not better. It's so hard for me to pick a favourite but Heartstrings would definitely be in the running for the top spot. I adored Quinn and Las, but I also fell in love with the other members of Lions Rampant. Tanner was hilarious (even if a little bit annoying to start with) and Corbin and Finley were very cute together but also very interesting individuals too.

If you liked the previous books, I'm sure you'll love this one too. It's well-written, cute, and loaded with lots of yummy characters, hot sex, and beautiful romance. Now all I need is a story for Tanner (pretty please?) and one for Brad and Remmy. And yes, the perfect happy ending that S.J. Frost has always delivered so far is an absolute must ;)

There is something about this author's voice that I love. I certainly love the whole musician storyline, probably because I can relate. This book was better than the last two in the Conquest world. I think that the other Conquest bandmembers got overshadowed by such strong characters like Jesse and Evan. But with our Scottish band, we have chance for a clean slate.

"La-la" was such an interesting character and I loved how the author delt with his loss of drive and fire. As always with Frost, we got some awesome man love!

I simply loved the story. I am hooked on those guys now, and I am off to buy the other books from the series. Fromm meeting and discovering love, I must say, it was a great journey. The conversations were realistic and and I loved Quinny for his insight of life. Loved the locations, Edinburgh is a lovely town and love a man in kilt. This book had everything I appreciate in a story. Highly recommend it.

I didn't think she could top/touch the books for the band members of "conquest". But this story has me in love with this band as well. Quinn and Las were simply lovely together. I love books in which the "games" are kept to the bare minimum. I can't wait to read Tanner's book!

This is a nice somewhat sweet read. Like most of this series the two MC fall in love pretty fast with each other and there isn't any real doubts that they are going to stay together. This book moved away from most of the characters of the main series and focuses on Conquest opening act and Julian's old friend. I like the Lions Rampant and think they are a fun band with an interesting dynamic in the band members. Quinn and Las are sweet together and I enjoyed watching Las figure out what he really needed to fell right about his music again.

Heartstrings is the latest offering from S J Frost and is billed as the sixth book (fifth if you don't count the short Finding A Dream) in the Conquest series, although the focus has moved to a completely different band. Conquest do appear at certain points in the book since Lions Rampant are supporting their tour in the UK but they do not feature heavily. Instead, our attention is on Las and Quinn, with their story pretty much following the formula of the previous books. The Conquest world is full of pretty people who make beautiful music together and we've read it all before.

Initially, I enjoyed the Conquest series, but I feel it's getting stale now and the characters less interesting. Like Conquest, the members of Lions Rampant are almost exclusively gay and this is starting to feel unrealistic. As well as Quinn, we have Tanner, and Corbin and Finlay who are in an established relationship with each other. Out of all of them, the troubled Tanner is the most interesting and there are tantalising glimpses into his rather unsavoury past which is bound to bite him on the ass in a sequel.

Las and Quinn are likeable characters but they never really set the story on fire and nothing much happens. Las actually comes across as shallow in the beginning since he's convinced he's lost his passion for music because he isn't famous enough. It's Quinn who makes him understand he needs to play music first and foremost for himself rather than to please the masses. Once that has been established, there's nothing much else going on but the endless sex scenes that I mainly skipped.

Another issue for me was the lack of atmosphere when the setting moved to Edinburgh, apart from a brief visit to the castle, the characters may have well been anywhere in the world. The places were all too generic for it to feel remotely Scottish and even the concert venues are never mentioned. Las seems to fall in love with the city, mainly from the view from the castle, but there isn't enough focus on why he loves it so much. A little more research into the city and more depth in the storytelling would've gone a long way to selling the setting for me. The members of Lion Rampant haven't made it big yet, and are presumably living in a modest wee flat in a less affluent area of the city but this is never explored. There is more to Edinburgh than the castle as impressive as it is, and more could've been made of our glorious Scottish weather. Hiking in January? Freezing! However, kudos to Frost for not attempting to write the Scottish dialect, something that always makes me cringe.

Heartstrings isn't a bad novel and the romance is pretty sweet like most of Frost's other books, but it just didn't engage me this time around. There's only so much exploration you can do in the Conquest world when every relationship is measured against that of Evan and Jesse who are starting to irritate me, and all the musicians go on to achieve great success in a world that doesn't care if their rock stars are gay. Don't get me wrong, that's how it should be, but I'm craving a little more grit and realism these days.

Oh, man. Right away Las set the tone for this story by being an egotistical jerk. Did I call Jesse that in the first volume? I hope I did not, because he really never has been that, but Las here? He annoyed me. Then again, he adjusted his attitude a few chapters in, which probably was the whole point.

On the subject of Scottish, or, hell, even merely British accents, the author drew a total blank. She shoved “bloody” and “mate” in a few times, but that’s about it. Oh, and the ever popular “aye” and “lads”. But along with that we get “ass” and a whole host of American idioms and phrases, so it really doesn’t work.

As much as I enjoy Tanner’s quirkiness and delightful crudeness, he’s a complete slut and the whole situation makes me uneasy. Even more so since I strongly suspect there’s a book coming up about poor Brad and I don’t have it! Boo. Well, I suppose I also need to wait for it to be written first. :P

Anyway, Quinn was a pretty nice guy at least and the other two in the band felt okay as well. It’s a little odd, though, that no one made any noise about this band being all-gay and obviously open about it. I mean after all the crap everyone gave Jesse over it back in books one and two about how this is Very Bad for a band just starting out. Blah. It’s not been that long that he and Evan came out officially after all. And… Kyler and Robbie. … Jeez, it’s another “everyone’s gay” fest, huh? If Brad switches too, it’ll be almost exclusive. I’ll need to draw on my suspension of disbelief for that one but what else is new.

Something that slightly bugged me in this one was how fast they discarded the condoms. After a week and a half of “dating”? Hm. Not even mentioning anything about tests or history or whatever. And we kinda know that both have been promiscuous. Le sigh.

On that note? We did not need to celebrate every step on the way with a sex scene.

Altogether, this wasn’t particularly eventful. Nothing much really happened. I kept expecting some kind of drama to erupt but… nothing. Even Jesse and Evan didn’t have anything special to contribute to the story; they did not feel out of character but there was no real interest to their scenes.

Spoiler Ahead This was a pretty good book. Violinist Nicholas "Las" Lamont lost the passion for playing his beloved violin he calls Angelo. When his latest tour ends in Chicago he stays in town to see an old friend from Julliard Julian who is in Conquest while at the studio he meets an up and coming Scottish rock band, Lions Rampant and it's manager and drummer Quinn Patrick and it's lust at first sight. This was a really good book about finding your passion again Las who thought that he needed to reach a larger audience to find what he lost never realized that he was lonely and lost or that finding love would help him find his passion. The band members are really interesting Tanner the lead singer was funny and needed an filter for his mouth at times and I really liked that he was looking out for Quinn when Las panicked after there first night together and left a note in stead of saying goodbye in person. I also liked that Quinn was patient with Las he knew that he wanted a relationship with him and Las didn't. The sex scenes were hot and steamy with these two falling in love with each other. I also liked that they guys from Conquest who Lions Rampant opened for and to see that Jesse and Evan are still madly in love with each other. This book was well written like the rest of the books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you like reading about hot M/M rockstars than I would recommend that you read this series.

Well besides good, I'm not sure what other words I can use to describe that book. The entire series is starting to get way too sappy and cheesy for my taste.
I'm not asking for things to be thrown across the room but the whole book has as much rhythm as a flat line. Las' ego got on my nerves in the beginning and Quinn's readiness to forget and forgive was a bit unrealistic. Have some pride, make the guy sweat. I was waiting for something, anything to disturb the honeymoon phase that they had going but no, it kept on going. Like I said, a dead guy has more life in him than this book. I would have like to see more of Corbin and Finley or really any break from the slightly annoyingly happy new couple. I like Quinn though. I wished he had more personality or was more forceful to be precise. I mean you feel the potential when they meet, you can feel a strong personality, alpha male kind of a guy but as soon as las comes back to apologize, he turned into this soft, smoochy guy...... I liked the book. It just didn't send me into a frenzy of any kind. Also I think I mentioned this before but you know you've done something wrong when you don't need to check to be reminded the author is female while you're reading her book. I know it's supposed to be a live story between two gay men but seriously they're still men!!! I'm a girl and I've never, EVER spoken like that. So I'm either emotionally challenged OR there's a good chance no man in the world could say they talk like that. I know some women do but put some testosterone in there, it's deeply needed!!
