B.B.U.S.A. Leo, an ordinary Realtor in Boise, Idaho, is suddenly thrust into the role of decoy for his family and avenger of the murder of his business partner, Tim. Leo receives a mysterious flash drive in the mail from Tim after his death. The B.B.U.S.A. Organization fears that Leo knows too much. Leo seeks assistance from his best friend, Major Doug Corrigan, in an attempt to break the password on the flash drive which may be the only thing that will keep him and his family alive. The novel is action packed, and follows Leo and Doug as they desperately try to stay one step ahead of the B.B.U.S.A. From the west coast of the United States to the west coast of southern Africa, Leo and his family experience extraordinary highs and lows. The characters come alive in this vivid portrayal of courage, endurance, friendship and love. From beautiful descriptions of the harsh Namib Desert, to refreshing scenery in the rugged central Idaho wilderness area, this novel will leave you breathless with a sense of adventure, a feeling for the characters, and a thrill of excitement. The B.B.U.S.A. cannot fail. Too much is at stake. They will stop at nothing. Who can Leo trust, and on which side is the handsome Romanian? Leo once considered Florin as a brother, but can he trust him with his life?
Leo, (I don’t think we ever know his last name) is a commercial realtor in Boise, Idaho and a former wildfire fire fighter. He has been using his skills as a real estate broker and developer for the mutual benefit of himself and a clandestine quasi-governmental agency known as the B.B.U.S.A. That stands for Buying Back the United States of America. And their task is to reacquire significant commercial properties from foreign buyers and return the ownership and tax basis back to the USA.
And Leo is enjoying tremendous success. But then is suddenly cast as a decoy for his family and as an avenger of the murder of his business partner, Tim. It all happens when Leo receives an encrypted and password protected flash drive in the mail from Tim after Tim’s death. The B.B.U.S.A. begins to feel that Leo knows too much about what is really going on with the B.B.U.S.A. And now Leo finds himself on the run and, in fact, running for his life. Leo leaves false rabbit trails for his pursuers to follow and heads for his best friend, Major Doug Corrigan. Doug, a bit of a techno guy has to be able to crack the code and unlock the secrets on the flash drive which may be the only thing that will keep him and his family alive.
The story is action packed, and follows Leo and Doug as they try to stay one step ahead of the B.B.U.S.A. goons. It makes its way from the west coast of the United States to the west coast of southern Africa, where Leo’s family has fled for safety. Leo and his family experience extraordinary highs and lows. And they hit a real low when the long arm of the B.B.U.S.A. is able to reach out to Namibia in Africa and inflict harm on Leo’s mother, wife and his two boys.
The characters are believable. They are not highly polished James bond type characters. So that makes them all the more believable. The story pits the reluctant hero, Leo against the B.B.U.S.A. who cannot afford to fail and be exposed for who they really are. There is just too much at stake. They are desperate and will stop at nothing to stop Leo. Who can Leo trust? And what is the deal with the stoic Romanian named Florin who is pursuing Leo? Who is he? And what is the connection that binds him to Leo and his family? Leo once considered Florin as a brother. But can he still trust him? And can he trust him with no only his life, but the life of his family also?
Overall the plot moved a little slowly at times. And I would have liked to have seen a more dramatic climax. But this was a well written story that had credible characters. As a reader, you really pulled for Leo and you really hated Bob and Ervin who pursued him so relentlessly.
Follow Leo and Sarah as they try to extricate themselves from what see,ed to be a great government plan. The main characters aren't your ex military tough guy as are common in many stories of danger and intrigue. Of course the men are all buff and the women are drop dead gorgeous as is typical.
The story is well paced sprinkling history of the characters throughout. The only reason I deducted a star was 1. Several errors that were either typos or grammatical and 2. The foul language. Didn't need it. Other than that it was terrific.
B.B.U.S.A. (Buying Back the United States of America)
Great idea, but somehow I don't think it's possible. Sounds great and makes for good reading, character development is outstanding, the action is sometimes predictable, but one truth comes out: Not everything is about greed or money, family is everything and worth fighting to preserve. Thanks for letting me get to know a new author.
