All The King's Men #2

Heart of the Warrior

Rate this book
Severin was born to be a warrior. Conceived as a mixed-blood when his vampire father sexually assaulted his dreck mother over two centuries ago, Severin retained the power of iron skin inherent to newborn drecks. However, Sev keeps this secret closely guarded. If it's discovered that inferior dreck blood flows in his vampire veins, it could destroy his life. And to make matters worse, his father suddenly wants to make amends for his transgressions. Sev wants nothing of his father's apology, especially now, as he contends with both an assassin who has marked Sev for blood vengeance and his overwhelming attraction to his teammate, Arion.

Arion is the son of King Bain's liaison, Gregos Savakis, who had Ari's course plotted before he was even born. But what Ari's overbearing parents wanted for him wasn't what Arion wanted for himself, and a lifetime spent fighting through one relationship after another with females from all walks of life has left him weary in his search for a mate. After a startling and erotic encounter with Sev over a month ago, Ari has begun to realize why. He's gay. And now he can't stop thinking about Sev. Arion suddenly realizes he's been forcing himself to be with females because that's what his parents expected. But what he wants is a male, and not just any male. Arion wants Severin.

Can the two overcome the secrets, prejudice, plotting, and the threat on Severin's life to find happily ever after with each other?

This Book is excellent......READ IT!!!!

If you Love Paranormal Romance with a bit more edge to it, elements of BDSM. If you like m/m as well as m/f..........THEN READ THIS BOOK!!

Can I compare it to other books in this genre...yes, the theme is tried and tested......but this IS different.

Donya Lynne is fast moving up there with my favorites, we are only on book #2 and I am already invested in this series.....I. LOVE. IT.

In the last book (Rise of the Fallen AKM#1) Sev and Ari shared an intimate moment....one which Sev treasures and Ari is unsuccessfully trying to forget!!

Sev

Photobucket

Ari

Photobucket

Moving on, their relationship is fraught with conflict....not fully understanding the deep emotion and undeniable pull drawing them together. Yes, they want each other but how can Ari, with homophobic parents....and a best friend, who is openly hostile to gays, admit to the world his sexuality and disrupt the harmony and comfortable order of his life?...and Sev still harbouring guilt over the death of his former lover and trying to maintain the secret of his half Dreck/Vampire heritage?

They question themselves through out the book.....have those conversations in their heads we all have when conflicted and confused. Being privy to these we have more of an understanding of the 'person' not just the character.

The sex scenes.....well. Sometimes when a writer tackles a sex scene in a book it can become....confusing!!! I sometimes think to myself...'what the hell?' or 'how the hell?'

NOT in this case....Thanks to Ms Lynne's descriptive prose....In my minds eye I could see it all in technicolour!!!....the inhibitions swept away, lost in their intimacy.....they are beautiful, sensual and erotic and I was shouting 'Hell Yes'

Obviously this book is not just about these two luscious boys.....there are plenty of other characters (more hot, sexy alpha men) and lots of action for us to whet our appetites on, there is peace to keep between the two warring factions of the Drecks and Vampires after all!!!

OMG...Micah..the bad ass from book #1 returns and plays a pivotal role, along with Trace...dark, kinky and mysterious, in knocking some sense into Ari and Sev. We see a gentler side to Micah and....oh my....do we see a completely different side to Trace....I am looking forward to his book!!!!...I definitely feel there is still something we are not being let in on yet with these two, even though Micah is already mated to Samantha??!!

This book draws you in from the first page right to the last....AT FULL SPEED. The writing feels.....genuine and to the point, it flows seamlessly, with an honesty about it.

For me this book and series has it all.....Humour and camaraderie. 'What the F**k moments. Goose bumps and those times when the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. OMG No!!! moments and OMG Yes!!! moments. Tears....oh yes there were tears....big ones and I hate to admit it but the bottom lip was quivering uncontrollably at one point.

If you can't tell already, I love this series and I am so looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend this book....you need to read it;-)

This book...
Where the hell have you been hiding from me, you little bastard?
description

I don't know what took me so long to find this gem, but I'm sure glad I did.
description

First, I have to commend Donya for her terrific writing, and she did a great job in describing the world she created and the mating bond between two vampires. This was truly a fast-paced story that I could not put down.

Also, it was a lot more emotional than I was expecting. I did actually get teary-eyed a few times watching the hard time Sev and Ari went through as a mated, gay couple. My heart just broke for them on their journey to become a full-fledged mated couple. Although, I had to grit my teeth a few times because of Ari, and I so wanted to take the stick out of his ass and beat him upside the head with it. Dude, I get that your parents and best friend are homophobic, pea-brained assholes but shoving Sev in the closet constantly and hurting him to appease those aforementioned assholes was so grating. Well, thankfully Ari did get his head out of his ass and realized what was the most important thing in his life.

And these two were definitely hot together. The good thing about mated vampires is that they are driven to spread their "fertile seeds" as often as possible with their mate, which means that, of course, there was plenty of marathon sex that lasted pages upon pages.
description

I mean, really, these two were just...UNF!
"It isn't me who needs to worry about you. It's you who needs to worry about me, because I want to invade you in the most unbelievable way right now."
description
After nearly tripping over each other to get to the bottom, Ari gripped Sev's long hair like it was a horse's mane and jerked his head back as Sev groaned and cried out.
"I love your hair," Ari said, giving it another sharp tug. "I love pulling it."
description

The only reason I am not giving this book 5 stars is because of all the chapters that were written from secondary MCs' POVs. A lot of these chapters were added into the book to set up the rest of the series, which annoyed me because it detracted from the main couple and added nothing to the current book. Also, there were random (M/F) sex scenes between secondary MCs. (So, yes, be warned: naked girly parts do appear in this book.)

Overall, even with my beef regarding the secondary MC chapters, I did really enjoy the book and definitely don't regret reading it. It was a fun, hot-as-hell, and action-packed read.

I went into this book expecting it to rock my socks after seeing all the 4+ star reviews. Sadly, my socks were stuck firmly to my feet. Color me disappointed because I found this story for the most part to be unoriginal peppered with a few bright spots and the characters were cliche.

I didn't care for Ari at all and Sev was a little too bend over and take it for my tastes.

I'm new to this author so I'm not sure what else she's written but if you are reading this for m/m just be prepared for a huge side serving of several het relationships. Not saying there is anything wrong with that but, I was unaware so I tagged it so others would know as well. I get the sense from all the breadcrumbs trailed through here this is the only m/m in the bunch so...take that how you will.

Overall, just meh for me.

I don't know why the author thought that they had to say Sam was wearing less clothes than any other woman in the bar, as though the others who wore less clothes were doing something bad or wrong. It made me uncomfortable. 21st century and all that.

I also don't know why having a mate is the reason for happiness. Talk about pressure. Also, sad that you need somebody else to be responsible for ur happiness.

The chemistry was lacking. Like the insta love just don't work for me.

Masters of Secrets. Overcome by traitors. Brutal choices.

Severin has become an expert at concealing pieces of his true identity. His mother, a dreck, was raped by his vampire father and then abandoned and left to raise her half-breed son alone. He was gifted with a rare defensive quality, iron skin and used this to his advantage. Through training and wars Sev became the perfect weapon, and was convinced he was created to destroy.
He found love briefly, but his world was flipped over when a jealous friend betrayed him and his lover. Gabe was lost during the setup, and died believing Sev was a traitor. Gabe’s sister, Gina held his hand and memories while he took his last breaths. Unfortunately, she was equally fooled and determined to avenge her brother. To add to the mix, Sev’s estranged father returned begging forgiveness and a fresh start.

Arion has being living a lie for as long as he can remember. His parents are near royalty and have certain expectations for Ari. He has always been told what to think, what to feel, and what to do. He too, has become a skilled guardian of secrets. He has persuaded his heart and mind to avoid the truth. When he finds a deep attraction for Sev, he buries it. He can’t let his true desires come to life. He would risk everything. But in reality, what does he have to lose?

Action packed with a heavy dose of smoking hot loving.
You will duck and dodge countless obstacles and challenges.
Oh, and I can’t forget the surprising bit of BDSM; whew, Trace I can’t wait to uncover your mysterious layers.
Hang on for AKM is a speeding ride at full throttle.

Heart Of The Warrior
By Donya Lynne

Severin and Arion both work for AKM as enforcers keeping humans safe and trying to end the Colbalt drug sales. Sev is half vampire and half dreck. Ari is full vampire.

After a heated moment in Ari's kitchen weeks ago Arion has been avoiding Severin. While Sev has always known he's gay, Ari has always denied that part of himself. It's a story of one man who's not afraid to be himself and just wants to be with the man he loves and another man who is to afraid to admit to his parents and best friend, Io, that he's gay. There is a lot of action in the story including an assassin after Severin that believes Sev is the reason her brother is dead.

Heart Of The Warrior is hands down my absolute favorite paranormal MM book. I've truly lost track of how many times I've read it and listened to the audiobook.

The only part of the book that bothers me is that what happened between them weeks ago is actually at the end of the previous book in the series, Rise Of The Fallen. (It's available for free on Amazon.) I wish it had been incorporated into this book at the beginning as maybe a prologue or something. Suffice to say this book can still be read as a stand alone. So far I've only read the first 2 books in this series. I would definitely recommend reading them both. The rest of the series is on my to read list.

I purchased both the ebook and the audiobook. Considering almost all of the characters are male a man narrating would've made more sense than a woman, but Mikela Drew did an awesome job.

Barbara - per RFS

Salve Fenici,

Warning in advance about rambling and mild spoilers.

Random thoughts:
- It was definitely the wrong time for me to pick up this book. As Lover at Last's release date gets closer, I get more excited about it. Since this book is PNR, a m/m novel in a mainstream series - as far as I am aware, certain correlations are inevitable. It got me worried about LAL, because of reasons. This book reads like het PNR, only the chick replaced with a guy. Worse yet, I wasn't sure which guy was the chick. (This doesn't have to do with topping or bottoming, it's a great plus that they were both versatile and switched.)

- Drecks are described, as far as I gathered, as Jotun. Which promptly made me think of Loki and Avengrs fanfic. Definitely a plus.

- I got the impression of nicely done BDSM. But I'm not much into het bdsm so I skimmed it.

- I liked the side characters. Stryker, Mikah, Malek. Felice, Gena, Kota.

- Bonding - calling and suffering. Nice way to enrich the (known to me) mitology.

- Predictable.

- Cheesy.

- Predictable. No, seriously. I saw each and every obstacle they came across from miles away. As would they have if they had gotten their heads out of their respective a--es.

- I liked Lakota. Only I keep calling him Dakota in my mind, which brings the association with Dakota Fanning. That makes a hilarious mental picture.

- MCs: one paints, the others play musical instruments. They're both gay. They fall for each other What are the chances? Not liking the stereotypes here.

- They forgive too easily. Or at least Sev does. Well, it goes without saying, had he worked out the situationd in his mind beforehand, there would be better understanding between him and Ari and less chance for things to go wrong and him get hurt in the process.

- They were all to mild for hardened warriors.

Perhaps I expected too much? And/Or I haven't read PNR for too long? I don't know which it is, of it's the book's fault or mine, but this book wasn't a win for me.

After reading Donya’s debut novel Rise of the Fallen – I had to read her next book Heart of the Warrior. I have to openly admit, I’m not normally into m/m romance and don’t read it often. But after reading Heart of The warrior, I’d have to admit I loved it. Imnot going into the storyline to much read the blurb but here are thoughts On why I enjoyed this story.

Donya grasps at the emotions, descriptions, love and romance between Ari and Sev like poetry. It flows so smoothly, its tasteful, loving and wow .

……M/M is not every readers genre and honestly not one of my favourites – but after reading this, I think I could sway – lol.. The story doesnt just focus on these two boys, it interacts with all the characters giving us a great storyline as well as the romance .

Ari and Sev have an attraction they both can’t deny,** A CALLING ** it draws them together but with the outer problems – aka Ari’s homophobic parents and best friend Io, he is not quite sure how to approach his new found love in the public eye.

The sex scenes between Sev and Ari was tasteful, loving, erotic and very intimate. The tenderness when they were in bed, bathroom or wherever there love took them was so palpable that it was like a living thing. They proved to be a match made – filled with sensual loving, and all qualms and worries cast aside. The obstacle in place was just Ari being able to tell the world know how much he loved Sev. Honestly as I said before I'm not normally into m/m but this story was so well crafted I just felt the love for the pair wafting off the pages. Steamy and sexy as sin. !! The descriptions we well placed – Donya has not held back and has crafted the loving magnificently. ** Hot dam – and smoking **

Being an m/m read, Donya has definably in cooperated so much into the storyline, more than just romance, but Lots of kick arse action - hot characters, and characters that I’m sure you will fall in love with and swoon over. Even new characters where introduced into the story.
We are also given a different light into other characters. Micha we are shown a different side of and Tracian I can’t wait to read his story... He has that dark side – but sexy as hell. ** I love a dark and mysterious man ** ** licks lips**

The characterizations in this story are impeccably drawn and the writing just fantastic. I can see the difference in Donyas progression in her writing from book one to this one.. And must say book two is an eye opener into Donya's writing. Book two is better than book one in my eyes. !!! As much as I loved Micha – Sev and Ari where hot.

Heart of the Warrior does contain slight traces of BDSM, language some may not like, but I felt it fits the story perfect and lots of m/m action and also a little m/f action as well. We see the AKM fighting for justice and trying to create a little peace between the Vampires and Drecks or at least some form of justice from the drugs roaming the streets. Gina continues on her vendetta for revenge , and finds more than she ever bargained for.

There are a lot of ahhh moments, moments where you will be reaching for the tissues, and I think if Ari hadn’t jumped on that dam bed with Sev I would’ve been there right beside him.. ** sniff sniff ** The emotions that Donya has put forth will pull at your heart strings, have you sniffing, and moments where you sigh or maybe event throttle some B**tch. Lol

The strength or tone of the story also alternates and changes. There are times when there is kick arse action – intrigue, times of romance and rumination, sadness and hurt, times of forgiveness and devotion and of course friendship building along the way. Friendships and understanding are built in Heart of the Warrior and I can’t wait for book three.

Overall Heart of the Warrior - is complete with hot romance, fluent flowing dialogue, and action that is kick arse . Whether it be in the bedroom ** waggle eyebrows ** or out on the field. Not only are the characters hunky and well-rounded** snickers** but believable and well put forth.

Donya Lynne Give me more of AKM – all I can ask is that you write us that next book pronto as I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Read book one before this it will give you insight into the characters and series put forth .

Arion and Sev are great. I love their story sooooo much. Finding your true mate and having to go through such a struggle to be together, it will get to me every time. In this book the kink was a little more but not with the MC but with Traceon. I needed more of that with the MC and I would have been over the moon.

I actually didn't get to finish this before my Audible Escape borrow went poof... cuz, ya know, Audible Escape is no more... boo! hiss! I tried to finish it in time but Halloween, so... yeah, I didn't.

Anyway, I was about at 90%, I think?

It was good if Ari was a bit of a huge douche through this. I'm not entirely sure there was near enough begging and groveling for me after what he did. And, the whole fated mate bond was a huge cop-out as far as forgiveness in regards to the massive douchery that happened.

Any who... I will try to find this through some other (public library, Hoopla, or Kindle Unlimited) means to finish it. Not sure Audible Plus is blowing my skirt up at the moment.

So far, (a la 90%) I would give Heart of the Warrior 3.0 to 3.5 stars.

This was a definite improvement over the first book! I felt like I understood the world a lot better and really felt like I got to know more about each of the characters. I loved Sev and Ari. They felt so much more fleshed out in this.

Sev has been tortured wanting Ari since their one encounter six weeks earlier. Unbeknownst to him Ari has been struggling with the same longings. While their passion for each other is strong it isn't going to be that easy. Ari fears admitting he's gay to the homophobic people in his life and Sev has potentially deadly secrets of his own. Throw in their jobs, estranged fathers, pasts that are turning up wanting them dead, altogether there's a lot going on and it keeps the book interesting. Interesting, and well Hot! I felt like I understood a lot more about how Ms. Lynne has created her mating as well. I felt the concept was a little nebulous in book one, but here I really felt Sev and Ari's draw to each other. I was rooting for them. I loved how finding out Sev's secret is what really turned Ari around and then how his own insecurities almost ruined things. There was a great balance of angst/love.

This book definitely got me hooked on the series and I can't wait to read more. I'm still SOOOOOO curious about what's going to happen with Trace and the hints about future hook ups between secondary characters were great. They were much subtler here and left me wanting to know more. The introduction with Sev's father fit perfectly as well. With him joining the teams I can see their being more development of their relationship and I'm itching to find out. I'm still curious about the dynamic between the vampires and the drecks, but I'm sure I'll keep getting more and more information about the world as Ms. Lynne writes.

Actually one of my favorite things about this series might just be that it's not a straight hetero or m/m series. I love that each book is about that relationship regardless of the sexual preferences. Too many series seem to say every character has to fit within the chosen category, hetero or not. I hope more and more authors feel comfortable writing based on the characters preference and recognizing a world that has a lot more diversity. So thank you Ms. Lynne. This was great!

HEART OF THE WARRIOR (AKM #2) by Donya Lynne

HEART OF THE WARRIOR is the second novel in Donya Lynne’s All The King’s Men paranormal vampire series. This particular storyline features a M/M relationship between two AKM warriors Severin and Arion. Sev has known that Ari would one day be his mate, but it will be Ari’s need for acceptance by his family that will force the newly mated couple into a world that neither one expected.

Sev and Ari’s relationship turned personal between the pages of Donya’s Rise of the Fallen. There is an attraction between Ari and Sev that is hard to deny. But the author has added a twist when a vampire finds his mate he will enter the CALLING-a need so great, that separation and rejection is both physically and emotionally painful. And over the course of the new-found bonding, separation is inevitable when one warrior is too frightened to come out or acknowledge his feelings in public.

Sev’s relationship with his mother is close. As a single parent raising a hybrid vampire Sev’a mother has known pain and sorrow. And it is the story of his conception that has hurt Sev the most, knowing how his mother has suffered at the hands of an attacking vampire. But Sev has a secret that he and his mother share and one that could ultimately end his career.

Heart of the Warrior and the author Donya Lynne will focus on many of the different aspects of a same sex relationship. Donya treats the relationship with respect and the sexual encounters are romantic, loving and hot. Like many same sex couples, Sev and Ari will face rejection from friends and family, but in the end, the love and support from others, will be the ultimate show of approval and acceptance. There are many moments that will cause a tear or two to fall, some will require a tissue and others will make you think-what if?? Heart of the Warrior is a romantic story about two people who will overcome the odds and find love, when so many others have not.

The Course of True Love Never Does Run Smooth…Starring Ari & Sev

Oh Arion and Severin…

You two really were the living, breathing example of that phrase. Poor Severin with so many secrets, but also with a big, beautiful heart he’s practically fearless about going after what he wants thanks to his mother and her love for him.

You would think having a fated mate would make falling in love less fraught with drama and heartache.

No such luck because where Sev is bold and unafraid to go after what he wants, his mate who has much less to hide is so afraid of his world falling apart he’d rather hide, or possibly lose, his love than step up and claim his mate.

Honestly, the only thing that kept this from being a 5 Star read for me was Ari’s continuously boneheaded behavior. I was dying to snap him out of it! The warrior scenes and the scenes when Ari & Sev were together were all awesome. I’m definitely planning on reading the whole series.

The story of Sev and Ari was an interesting one. I have not read or listened to the first book and for the most part, this book serves as a stand-alone; however, there were a few sections that were a bit off. The writing style of Donya Lynne captured my imagination and made me want to stay with the story and I found myself routing for our protagonists. Though I will admit that I wanted to throttle Ari on several occasions. I understood Micah's frustration with the two of them. The story was full of intrigue, mystery, and lots of hot sex. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the narration of Mikela Drew. This is the first time that I listened to a M/M story with a female narrator but she did a phenomenal job adding to the story. I was a bit caught off with several of the chapters focusing on characters that I felt were not really part of Sev and Ari's story but then I realized that this was a series. All-n-all, a good book and I thoroughly enjoyed the escape and adventure.

I gave the first book 4 stars and this one 3 stars because of Ari.
I didn’t like him in the first book and in this book I still didn’t like him.
I really liked Sev who I felt deserved a stronger mate.
I understood Ari and his feeling about being gay and coming out of the closet as they say but too mate with Sev and then just accept what his parents did with the St. Patrick’s Day party was just ridiculous in my eyes. Talk about not having a backbone and the excuse he gave Micah just drove me mad.
I love that the author includes so many POVs in her books and starts other couples stories before their book.
Loved catching up with Micah and Sam, just love that couple. I’m so happy book 3 is about them and can’t wait to start it.
I’m also getting to love Trace and can’t wait for his book.

I absolutely loved this book! It is my favourite from the series to date and I've read them all.

I'll admit, the storyline may not be for everyone but it will definitely have you stopping to think, not just about relationships but how they're percieved by others.

We cannot help who we fall in love with. Our heart makes that choice. So? Do you follow your heart or do you try to conform to standards expected of you?

While it is the case that crying and tears aren't something that men, even warriors, do (or shouldn't do) but... These guys seriously cry *a lot*. I mean it. They are crying practically every other moment because they just have SO MANY FEELS. Lmao.

I suppose in context it also makes sense since Lynne at least gives them some magical woowoo reason for why they are so emotional, but still......

I liked this one better than the first one.
I'm not into M/M so I skimmed through the numerous sex scenes, but I liked the build up, the relationship between Arion and Severin, how it wasn't rushed but dealt with the problems they had in its own time.
Gina's introduction was good as well, not rushed or useless. And in the end we are given a glimpse of the future storylines with Malek and Io.
A good second book, it kept me hooked up to the story.

Perfect !
While there will be some close minded people who will frown upon the love between Ari and Sev it was perfect. I am a HUGE fan of paranormal be it romance or urban fantasy the romance between them would have been perfect in any setting. I wish the whole series was on Audible. The narration was full of emotion and the world building was interesting. I liked this better than the first. I rarely give 5 stars but this one deserves them.

I enjoyed this vampire story. This is Sev and Ary's book. Alot happens to jeopardize their acknowledgement of caring.for each other. Sev came out years ago, but Ary needs to accept who he is first. All the characters from book one are present and involved with Sev and Ary.

Mikaela Drew, the narrator is perceived for these books. She brings so much emotion and depth to the characters and scenes. I highly recommend this book and series.

Pretty mediocre and predictable, with more bad analogies per paragraph than I could handle. First a babe Ruth imitation, then fighting like mr t (from Rocky? Really?) and then ironman..... too much and too silly. Plus this guy's had lifetimes of fighting, but just joined? And vampires are homophobic? I couldn't get past the first few chapters

I had previously enjoyed the first novel in this captivating series, but I took my time getting around to reading this sequel, particularly because it focused on the male enforcers I had briefly encountered in the previous book. I had never delved into a romance centered around two men before, so I approached this book with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. However, I am genuinely grateful that I decided to immerse myself in this story. From the very first pages, I was drawn in, and I was completely taken aback by how invested I became in the characters and their journey.

The portrayal of the characters was strikingly authentic; their emotions and reactions felt so palpable that I often found myself empathizing with their struggles or feeling frustrated when they made questionable decisions. Their romance unfolded with a sweet tenderness, yet it took on an unexpectedly passionate tone that caught me off guard—who knew I would enjoy a love story featuring two men so intensely? The setting of the narrative was vividly constructed, situated in a well-defined and recognizable world, making it even easier for me to connect with the characters. The fact that they happened to be vampires was a secondary aspect that enhanced the story rather than overshadowed the more human elements of their relationships.

The story revolves around Severin, who has been longing for Arion ever since their brief but electrifying encounter in Ari's kitchen six weeks prior. Severin finds himself working alongside Arion every night, and it seems as though their fleeting moment together has left no impression on Arion. Arion has always struggled with romantic connections, particularly with women, yet his experience with Severin was an entirely different matter—it was intense and transformative. Both men harbor secrets they intend to keep hidden not just from each other, but from friends and family as well. These hidden truths weigh heavily on them, especially as outside forces complicate their already tumultuous lives.

As the use of cobalt—a powerful and dangerous substance—spikes to epidemic levels, chaos erupts on the streets where enforcers like Severin operate. He is grappling with an onslaught of personal challenges: his ex-boyfriend’s sister is increasingly threatening, determined to settle a score with him, and he is completely unsure of when or where her vengeance might strike. To complicate matters further, his estranged father, a man he detests for his past misdeeds, is attempting to make amends, adding another layer of turmoil to Severin's life. Throughout these distractions, Severin remains intensely focused on Arion, seeking a way to win his love in a race against time dictated by the insistent call of their bond—his need for a mate.

I found the chemistry between Severin and Arion utterly enchanting; they were both steamy and incredibly supportive of one another. Their romance was hard-won, frequently challenged by the lack of understanding from family and friends, and bolstered by unexpected sources of support. This book is definitely worth the investment of your time, just as its predecessor, "Rise of the Fallen," is highly recommended. If you haven't read it yet, you should certainly do so—it's a perfect introduction to this series. I cannot recommend this sequel enough! However, be aware that it contains multiple explicit scenes between two appealing vampires that are equally thrilling and tingle-worthy!

As I did with the previous installment, I opted to listen to this audiobook again, experiencing it with the same level of enjoyment as the first time. The talented narrator, Mikela Drew, brought all the characters to life with her performance, which enhanced the story's depth and emotional resonance. I remember feeling a bit hesitant at the start, but what unfolded was a beautifully crafted story that left a lasting impression by the end.

All the King's Men #2
Heart of the Warrior (AKM, #2) by Donya Lynne Heart of the Warrior by Donya Lynne is everything of romance the if it can all help it. Heart of the Warrior, sequel to Rise of the Fallen was an excellent book with almost the perfect mix of romance, conflict and hope for the future. I give it 4.5 stars.

Here is my breakdown of ratings for the different aspects of this book:
Ease of Readability - 10/10 no problems whatsoever!
Uniqueness of Story - 8/10 The story had a lot of unique characteristics to it, though it did have a couple of similarities to other stories I've read, hence the reason for an 8 instead of a 10.
World Explanation - 9/10 We find out so much more about this vampire world and its inner workings in this book than we did in the first one.
Storyline Expansion - 10/10 Awesome storyline expansion for this book. There is nothing I would've changed.
Character Development - 10/10 I truly felt that all of the characters were developed perfectly.
Dialogue Plausibility - 9/10 I only had one problem with the dialogue. There was a scene where Severin was arguing with Tristan and I totally felt Tristan's reaction to Severin's bad attitude was completely unrealistic. I can understand him kicking Severin out of the meeting, but he wouldn't even let him work that night and sent him home without talking to him.
Plot Development - 9/10 Very well done!
Annoyance Factor - 1/10 I only had one thing that annoyed me in like the first 3 or 4 chapters of the book. When inserting humor Donya kept Writing them in the same format. It got old fast, but then it stopped. Yay!
Interesting Characters - 8/10 The old characters were expanded upon, and became more interesting and the new ones were interesting.
Humorous Interplay - 10/10 This book has the perfect amount of humor for it!
Romantic Chemistry - 10/10 Hot hot hot!
Tear Jerkiness - 10/10 Not too much and not too little… Perfect. At one point I was actually sobbing, I hurt right along with Sev.
Villain Scariness - 5/10 The villain in this one was quite intimidating, but misguided and since we knew that pretty much from the beginning, she never really hit villain status for me.
Political Correctness - 10/10 You can't get anymore, PC than having the book be primarily about 2 male vampires finding there mates in each other. *Sigh* It was just beautiful!

Trying too hard to be like other authors.

I have to get this out, because it is starting to annoy me. When I read this book it was like the author was trying to rewrite a low key version of Qhuinn & Blaylock’s story in ‘Lover at Last’ by J.R. Ward. This author needs to stop trying to ride on the success of another author and write more original content and find her own voice.

No that that has been said, let’s review. Arion is a privileged, playboy prat. Severin is a veteran of SpecOps. Polar opposites. It must be Sev’s SEAL training that allows him to put up with Ari. Sev didn’t ring that bell at BUDs, so putting up with Arion is just another storm to be weathered. I could connect with Severin, not Arion. Ari starts out like an ass with no emotional balls and turns out to be a prissy ass with weepy balls 75% into the book.

Sorry. Can you tell I didn’t care for Arion? Just writing this review is annoying me. Bottom line. Severin is cool. Arion is a chore. Sev has depth. Ari is one dimensional.
