They are cursed by the gods, and war is their salvation. Love is their deliverance.
For centuries, five legendary warriors have braved battles shoulder to shoulder. But now they must divide and conquer as lone champions against evil.
Duncan, a scholar at heart, is drawn to an isolated abbey rumored to hold the answers to countering the terror unleashed by Duke Keirthan. Inside the cloistered walls lies the hidden collection of forbidden lore on dark magic. But the real key to the salvation Duncan seeks—both for the people of Agathia and his soul—is the abbess herself, Lady Lavinia. Hunted by the duke, who seeks to harvest her powers, Lavinia knows Duncan wants to help her. But can she trust the tortured warrior with her secrets?
In the end, it is only by joining forces that they can save not only those they are sworn to protect but each other.

The sequel to My Lady Mage lived up to the first five star book! I listed this as a favorite series with only two books out which I do not usually do. I have not read a fantasy that I loved like this one since Cheryl Wilson's Tairen Soul series (which probably will always be my favorite fantasy world to live in). This story is far different but it appealed to me in many of the same ways. The characters are wonderful, both the men and the women - and the animals in it too. I will admit I read this as slowly as I could because I did not want it to end and did not want to miss a word. The five warriors in this tale are referred to in legend as The Damned. They serve the Gods when needed and otherwise for centuries will lie below the waters of the river until they are summoned to a worthy cause again - are five all different and all have their own appeal. The first book featured Gideon, who is the leader, and his relationship with Lady Merewin who is the one who summoned them from the river. In that book we learned so much about the other four as well. We also followed the attraction between Murdoch and the Lady Alina.
Her Knight's Quest is about Duncan and the Lady Lavinia who we learn is the real target of the evil Mage's search for power. All of the knights have a shield on which there is painted an animal or a bird - or in one case something different. On Duncan's shield is an owl named Kiva. When called upon these creatures leave the shield and come alive to help in the battle against evil but also to be the devoted companion of the man. Another new character to enter this book is Sigil, a captain of the enemy army who for some reason saves the lives of the warrior Murdoch and Lady Alina but does not remember who or what he was before. What will happen if and when he does remember these were his sworn enemies? We also meet the young girl Sarra whose mother was captured by the evil Mage. Sarra is a seer with a very accurate ability to predict and to sense the danger following them.
I loved the interplay between the five wonderful men and the supernatural animals they are partnered with. I also love the presence of the horses who are a big part of the first book and enter into this book too. Merewen's gift is the ability of speak to the horses which was inherited from her father.
In the first book the magic all belongs to the evil king who seeks to destroy all that is good in the land. But in Her Knight's Quest we find magic on "our side" although the warriors are uneasy about it as their gods expect them to fight these battles using the superhuman strength and abilities bestowed by the Gods of the River- and not by magic. Will Lavinia's ability to wield magic be accepted into this group or not? Duncan and Lavinia have a bond from the beginning even before they meet, but is this a good thing or not? They question it too as they attempt to figure out what part the other is to play.
Just a great story and I dare not say more without ruining the story for the reader to enjoy as I have. Just a small quote below and I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fantasy, adventure, magic, and romance that is well written.
"Then he pushed her against the nearest wall and kissed her as if there would be no tomorrow. It wasn't much of an exaggeration. The moment he rode down the switchback trail, their time together would be at an end. Not just for now, but forever.
And that truth cut a jagged hole in his heart that would never heal."
It is one of those books that you are dying to finish but at the same time dreading reaching the end because it means you'll suffer having to wait for the next part of this UTTERLY SPECTACULAR series!
Her Knight’s Quest by Alexis Morgan is the second instalment in the Warriors of the Mist series, following My Lady Mage. It picks up where where My Lady Mage left off; the five Warriors of the Mist had concocted a plan in the hope of defeating Duke Keirthan and putting an end to his tyrannical rule aided by blood magic, thus fulfilling their quest. Her Knight’s Quest begins with setting Gideon’s plan in motion. According to the plan, Gideon and Murdoch are to stay with Lady Merewen and guard her keep from further attacks, while Duncan would pretend to be scholar seeking work as a scribe in the abbey to be able to gather information to defeat the Duke, and finally, Kane and Averel would travel to the city and seek work in the Duke’s palace. Keirthan would be quite interested in having a man like Kane who bears a dark mark on his face. The first ten chapters in Her Knight’s Quest shift between Gideon, the other warriors and Lady Merewen and events taking place at her keep, on the one hand and Duncan and Lady Lavinia, on the other. Starting chapter 11, however, the novel takes the reader to a new dimension in the story; Duke Keirthan. We are introduced to the Duke – whom we briefly met in My Lady Mage – and his history. The present Duke of Agathia is Ifre Keirthan, who, it seems, usurped the dukedom from his brother Armel. Chapter 11 solves many questions that come to the reader’s mind over previous 10 chapters. It also solves the other characters’ frustrations and questions they voice. As dark and bloody as Ifre Keirthan is, many events come to light in this chapter, which has a climactic feel to it. After chapter 11, the story continues to shift but not between two parties, but three, as Duke Keirthan becomes more involved in the story. Starting chapter 11, it is almost impossible to put the book down. The reader feels that all chapters are of extreme importance.
Alexis Morgan’s tension build-up picks up pace. More mysteries are answered in chapters 13 and 14. Duncan and Lavinia reveal things about themselves that set the story in motion and that link different characters and parts of the story together. Starting chapter 11, momentum builds up and there is no stopping it till the end of the book. Her Knight’s Quest differs from its predecessor, My Lady Mage, in that there is a lot going on everywhere with each of the characters; there are events taking place at Merewen’s keep, at the abbey, and with Duke Keirathan. We also learn about the Duke’s past, his rise to power or rather usurpation of the dukedom, and about magic, the duke’s dark blood magic and Lavinia’s pure earth magic.
Despite the constant rise in tension, Morgan employs occasional short romantic scenes and some humour. A single humourous line easily breaks the reader’s tension, giving them a bit of relief.
As with My Lady Mage, Alexis Morgan ends her novel on a high note of anticipation. The reader feels as though they need to read all three parts consecutively without halt or pause. The second instalment in the Warriors of the Mist series earns a 4.5-star review (from me). It goes without saying that I can hardly wait for the Honor’s Price, the third instalment in the series.
(January 2015) This was a great sequel to My Lady Mage. The romance wasn't as strong, but the fantasy aspect was just as phenomenal.
This book mostly follows another of the Warriors of the Mist, Duncan. He has a troubled past that we learned a little of in the first book. His father didn't appreciate his wife's or his son's love of knowledge. So the man pushed fighting and such endeavors on Duncan. Now Duncan excels at both.
Lady Lavinia also has a bit of a troubled past, but I won't spoil hers for you. She lives at the Abbey as its Abbess and has vowed to protect the women and the knowledge obtained there. She communicates with the gods and has some other interesting magical abilities.
Duncan arrives at the abbey with a need for information to fight the evil that threatens Agathia. Upon arriving, Duncan saves Lavinia from a magically induced assassination. This begins their relationship. They can't explain their attraction to each other and they have to put their duty first. This makes things difficult for them.
I love the world of Agathia with its magic system, and the connections Alexis Morgan creates between humans and the animals. I am very excited to start the third book!
(August 2013) This was an amazing sequel to My Lady Mage! I am very impatient to read the third and final book coming out next year. I hope she continues though after the trilogy with something in the same world:)
Alexis Morgan writes a good, solid romantic fantasy with very likeable characters. This trilogy is a good read for a lazy weekend. Her Knight's Quest has magic, romance, evil, and secrets. The most interesting characters may be Sarra and Sigil.
I enjoyed the story and other characters but I felt it was 150 pages to long as there's a lot of filler of the library walking horse riding etc I enjoyed it for the most part
Duncan is one of the five fabled Warriors of the Mist who sleep within the River of the Damned. When a darkest began to descend over her estate, Lady Merewen called forth these ancient warriors to help rid the land of evil. At the end of the first book, My Lady Mage, Duncan set out in search of answers to help destroy their enemy. At the beginning of Her Knight’s Quest, Duncan is en route to an abbey which is rumored to hold ancient, magical texts. He is playing the part of a scholar looking for work as a scribe.
Lavinia is the head of the abbey and sworn to protect the secrets within its walls. She is all to aware of the evil at hand and the man at the root of the dark magic, Duke Keirthan. Lavinia is able to perform magic of her own, including scrying for visions of what the future may hold. So when the magic waters share more than one image of Duncan, Lavinia realizes he will be someone significant in her life.
Her Knight’s Quest is the delightful sophomore story in the Warriors of the Mist series. After providing basic framework for the world and mythology in her first book, Ms. Morgan takes the time to further explore several of the characters, including backgrounds and talents. There is a much deeper explanation of what is occurring to the land and its citizens, plus there are several scenes from the POV of the Duke - providing excellent insight into his desires and motivations. I was drawn in by the additional details and supplemental mythology regarding the magic at hand. Despite the fact there is a lot of new information provided, the plot progressed forward with an exciting intensity.
Although I would classify this series as fantasy, romance is a crucial part of its core and story lines. In Her Knight’s Quest, we witness the pairing of Lavinia and Duncan. However, there is also follow up with Merewen and Gideon, the primary couple from the first book. In addition, we witness the beginnings of a relationship between Murdoch and Alina, who we also met in the first book.
Lavinia and Duncan feel sparks of attraction right from the start, however both are duty bound and feel there is no time or place for any type of relationship. Their first kiss is sexy, yet hesitant, knowing that their responsibilities come first. Both Lavinia and Duncan appear simultaneously mature and innocent, able to focus on task yet full of wonder from the brush of romance. The juxtaposition of these seemingly conflicting needs creates a smoldering desire brewing beneath the surface.
As the pair grow closer, they individually struggle with the conflict between duty and heart. One of my favorite scenes involves such conflict. The pair disagree on the direction the other should take - and whether to leave the abbey. Yet when it comes down to it, Duncan pushes to claim and love Lavinia, even if they may never see each other again. Both put their heart out there, knowing love may be lost. The scene was emotionally intense and passionate.
The conflict between duty and love is echoed in the other romantic relationships within the story. Although Merewen and Gideon made peace with the fact that once the battle is over, he will have to return to the river and leave, the pair shared tender moments in Her Knight’s Quest as the realize the truth of the situation. This sentiment is echoed in a touching scene between Murdoch and Alina. I adore Alina’s courage in sharing her feelings with Murdoch, and for Murdoch to graciously accept her offer rather than push her away “for her own good.”
By the end of Her Knight’s Quest, I was thoroughly hooked on Ms. Morgan’s series. The fantasy elements and overall mythology are engrossing and exciting. The added components brought forward in this book helped to enrich the overall story arc. In addition, the character development was stronger in this book, and I have come to care for the Dammed Warriors and their companions. I admire that both persons in each of the pairings is willing to give one-hundred percent of themselves and their love, even knowing that heartache is ahead. I look forward to finding out how the Warriors of the Mist fair against the darkness of Duke Keirthan.
Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy
Fantasy and romance us what Alexis Morgan's Warriors of the Mist Series is all about. And in book two, Her Knight's Quest, she completely delivers. Book One, My Lady Mage introduced us to The Damned, a group if men who have been sentenced to an immortal sleep called forward only when the Lady of the River deems the petitioner's cause is worthy. A task that they have performed many times over the millennium. Only this time it's different. Relationships have been made and hearts have become involved.
In Her Knight's Quest, the damned have been separated for the first time. In the past they have always stood together. But this battle demands more. Duke Kierthon was born a second son with limited magic but as sometimes happens his greed and lust for power twisted him and he has managed to become the ruler of Agathia. But the darkness is rising in him. If the damned can not stop him, no one will and Agathia will be lost and her people enslaved.
Duncan is the first of the damned to be sent away. As the scholar of the team his mission is to seek out knowledge on how the Duke might be taken down. Duncan and his animal guide, Kiva have traveled to a distant Abbey known for it's libraries. Duncan knows he will have to prove himself before he will have any sort of access to the books he needs but fortunately the gods have stepped in and sent some help. But as often happens along with the help comes tragedy. If he is ever to help save Agathia he must first save Lavinia, the abbess.
Lavinia has been in hiding most of her life. Her identity must never be known or her life and all those she cares about will die. As she advances her knowledge she becomes not just a leader but a protector. But everything is changing and Lavinia is forced to make a decision. How can she best protect those under her charge? And if she leaves is she leaving because it is right or because she has lost her heart to Duncan.
As Lavinia strives to do the right thing, Duncan struggles with her mage abilities. To Duncan all magic is evil and he is confused at Lavinia's easy acceptance if it. As he discovered her secrets he once again has to battle his conscience.
Of course all choices are removed when evil comes to them and they race to Merwen's keep. Hoping that once the damned are reunited they will hold the higher ground.
While Duncan is away Murdoch is falling deeper and deeper for the lovely widow of Merwen' s evil uncle. He has to not only be a strong warrior but a gentle man who must learn to bend in order to have the w Oman he desires.
I will admit I am loving this series. Ms. Morgan's unique talent emerges as she tells a tale of magic and mystery. Her characters rise as legends and yet become all too human when faced with love. That each of the damned must discover that love makes them stronger only adds to the power of this story.
Quick & Dirty: Even though the consequences are dire, this novel is a nice, fun fantasy read with a little hot romance mixed in.
The Review:
Her Knight’s Quest is the second novel in the Warriors of the Mist series and continues the mission that Gideon and his men were awakened for by Lady Merewen. Warriors of the Mist member Duncan has traveled away from the group to see if he can uncover old secrets and use them to destroy the powerful and evil Duke Keirthan.
This novel jumps around to multiple third person point of views following the different story arcs. The main story that Her Knight’s Quest follows is Duncan’s journey to an Abbey that holds forbidden books that he hopes to use for information. It is here that he meets the beautiful Abbess Lavinia and discovers more about himself and magic then he ever wanted. The second story arc follows Gideon, the rest of his men, Merewen and Merewen’s aunt Alina, as they begin to amass an army to protect Merewen’s village and to eventually fight Duke Keirthan. The last arc follows Duke Keirthan and all of his evil schemes. It is here that some of the magic I had questions about from My Lady Mage were finally answered.
Duncan is an honorable man and from the first moment he enters the Abbey he makes friends quickly. Unfortunately, when Duncan’s friend attacks Livinia, he is forced to kill him. When Duncan realizes that the man was under a spell, his mission becomes greater as he now decides he must protect Livinia at all costs while looking for the secret books and fulfilling his mission. Duncan is a typical knight. I enjoyed him for his honor and how he didn’t want to disobey his mission from the gods. He respected Livinia. He didn’t want to ruin her honor in front of her followers in the Abbey.
Livinia puts on a tough façade for the outside world to see. She makes no excuses for what she is and what she can do especially when she sees Duncan’s fear of magic. She tries to convince him otherwise. Livinia is definitely a more independent woman than Merewen. I really did enjoy Livinia’s acceptance of magic and her brave calm as she destroyed magic relics that could have terribly hurt her, if not killed her.
Her Knight’s Quest is just the next step in the battle against Duke Keirthan and sets up the next stage with Kane and Averel. This novel could be read as a standalone but I wholeheartedly recommend reading the first book in the series, My Lady Mage, in order to understand what it is the warriors are fighting for.
Overall, this novel is a nice, fun fantasy read with a little hot romance mixed in. I’m really looking forward to the next novel, Honor’s Price, I am really hoping that the main romance will be with Kane. He has intrigued me since the very beginning and I can’t wait to find out more about him and to see what kind of woman can tame his dark heart.
Her Knight’s Quest, Warriors of the Mist #2, by Alexis Morgan
Grade: C+
“If you have regrets in your life, Duncan, you are indeed blessed, I have many, but kissing you will not be one of them.”
Duncan has been one of The Damned, or Warriors of the Mist who are called upon when the Gods believe a champion is needed for the last two millennia. Duncan and the four other warriors are still fighting Duke Keirthan and trying to save Agathia and it’s people. Duncan is sent to an abbey to find secrets in its library that can help the warriors defeat the Duke once and for all. Duncan did not intend to meet and fall in love with Lady Lavinia, head of the abbey. Lavinia is much more than just an abbess and Duncan must gain her trust to earn not only her secrets but her heart as well.
Lady Lavinia has spent her life running from Duke Keirthan and once again he has found her hiding spot. When she meets Duncan she knows he is more than just a scribe looking for work and that he may be able to help her protect the sisters of the abbey. Lavinia finds herself drawn to Duncan in so many ways and with his help she may get to stop running from her past and finally have a future.
I was weary about this book to begin with just because I didn’t get to know Duncan very well in the first book. I am not usually a fantasy reader but something about this series and these characters grabs me and sucks me into this amazing world that Mrs. Morgan has created. As I mentioned before I didn’t know a lot about Duncan but as I got to know him more he grew on me. He’s a very smart, very sweet man who is brilliant on the battlefield and off. His interactions with Sarra are what made me love him cause I am a sucker for a man whose sweet to little girls.
I wasn’t a big fan of Lady Lavinia at all. I found her kind of annoying at times and I never felt she was right for Duncan, probably because she felt that way so much. Many times I wanted to shake her and say “what is wrong with you?” but since she doesn’t actually exist I couldn’t. Since I had such a problem with Lavinia it was hard to want to read about her and get behind her relationship with Duncan. She didn’t ruin the book but she didn’t make it better.
I did love that we still got to see a lot of Gideon, Murdoch, Lady Merewen and Lady Alina who I love and adore. I want Murdoch and Lady Alina to have the next book so badly but I’m afraid it will be either Kane or Averel since we need to know what’s going on in their new mission. This series really is amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this battle of the Gods.
This book continues the story of My Lady Mage, so you have to read those in order. Gideon and Lady Merewen, the one who summoned them from under the waterfall, are happy together, they won the first battle against her evil uncle, but they still have to free the country from the evil magic of Duke Keirthan. To do that, they need more information. Duncan is not only a fierce warrior, he is also a scholar and he sets out to the abby to find that information.
While scrying for aid of her gods, abbess Lavinia sees him coming, and does not know what to think of that. Will he be friend or foe? And when he seems to sense her looking at him, she quickly ends her session. With the help of a trusted caravan guard, Duncan gets access to the abby. There he saves Lavinia’s life when his new friend Rubar and another guard attack Lavinia. They seem to be acting under a spell though, and it pains him to have to kill them both. After finding some suspect coins in their possessions, Lavinia uses her earth magic to destroy Duke Keirthan’s blood magic. Duncan is afraid of magic of all kinds, and it takes him a while to learn to trust in Lavinia and her goodness. Not all magic is black.
In exchange for helping guard the abby and training their new guards, Duncan will get access to the books he needs, but Lavinia will be with him at all times. Those books are too dangerous to leave unprotected. Soon they become friends and lovers, but Lavinia refuses to leave with him to aid their cause. She has sworn to protect the abby and its inhabitants, and she cannot leave them behind. Not even when her earth magic is the only magic strong enough to defeat her half brothers blood magic.
It takes an other attack on the abby and herself, to make her change her mind. But will Duncan’s friends welcome her and her magic?
I enjoyed this book. It reads very easily, and although dark things happen in Agathia, the Damned will do their best to defeat the growing darkness. I enjoyed reading about Duncan and Lavinia, but there is also the story of Murdoch and Lady Alina, and the new story of Sigil. It all intertwines in a magical tale. Add in their avatar’s and the look into the dark thoughts and heart of the Duke, and the story sucked me in completely.
I look forward to the next book in the series, but Alexis Morgan is writing another series at the moment, so it may take a while. The Snowberry Creek series seems to be contemporary small town romances, without any magic at all. I have pre-ordered the first book, to see if I will like that as well. So far I have only read her paranormal series.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
I'm a fan of Alexis Morgan for sure, but this series is absolutely incredible, and Her Knight's Quest was truly special - it's full of fabulous characters, a continually engaging storyline, an enchanting world, and I absolutely loved it!
I'm not a historical romance reader. Heck, I just read my first non-paranormal romance the other day and I read A LOT! I'm an urban fantasy/paranormal romance/fantasy/horror-thriller girl, and yet, I was completely engaged by this book and would have been very sad if it didn't have the historical aspects that it did. Alexis paints a truly beautiful tapestry and weaves the 2 genres together wonderfully thus creating what I hope is a new recognized sub-genre.
This second installment centers around Duncan, the scholar/warrior of the Damned. The Damned are warriors who act as avatars to their Goddess, and come to the aid of those in need when summoned. The rest of the time they slumber under the river. Their full story is revealed in the 1st book of the series, My Lady Mage, though you can get a good idea from the intro to Her Knight's Quest and the tidbits that are revealed throughout, therefore making the book work just fine as a stand-alone.
Our heroine, Lavinia, is an earth witch with a heady secret, hiding from her past by running an abbey and guarding a precious library.
Together they make an incredibly powerful couple. Duncan has magick in his blood but his Goddess and the rest of the Damned do not trust magick, and Lavinia has always been independent and looked out for herself and those she cares about so it's hard for her to give in and let Duncan care for her.
Aside from the incredible story, the utterly loathable villain and his cronies, and the powerful romance that blooms between Duncan and Lavinia, we get to see how things are going with Captain Gideon and his lady love Merewen (the power couple from book #1), and are brought into the budding interests between Murdoch and Lady Alina (who I'm assuming will be the leading couple in book #3, but I could be wrong), so there are plenty of side stories to go around and make the entire book robust and enjoyable.
LITERAL ADDICTION gives Her Knight's Quest 5 Skulls and would recommend it and the entire WARRIORS OF THE MIST series to all Paranormal Romance and Historical Romance fans. It's beautiful and I can't wait for the next book!
Centuries before, the hero and his friends were damned to be the warriors of the Mist. In worship to their goddess, they've roamed the earth, battling in her name and longing for peace that the wars withhold from them. The hero much prefers the scholarly life than his warrior status yet he excels brilliantly at both but it's his skill at the written word that he requires now. Traveling to a secluded fortress high in the mountains, he seeks the aid of the sisters who live there, in particular the beautiful abbess.
The heroine has spent the last few days viewing visions of the powerful warrior who's destined to arrive at the keep and is fated to change her life. He arrives just in time to save her from an attack by 2 merchants who have been spelled into violence against their will be her step brother. She's immediately taken with the beautiful man with silver eyes broadcasting his favor with the Gods and in him find a mirror of her own loneliness. Together they seek the answers to destroy her brother in the vast library of her home and quickly enter into an affair. But the hero knows that his devotion belongs to his goddess and the woman who makes his feel things he's never felt before can never truly own his heart.
In turn, the heroine has imprisoned herself in the keep, afraid of her own powers and more afraid that her brother will use her to destroy everything she loves. But when they are attacked, the choice as to whether to hide away or stand up to the tyrant is made for her and together they must battle for their lives and for the lives of their countrymen.
I liked this book but I did find it rather monotone and flat line. There weren't any heart racing moments or any encounters that made me lose myself in the story. I liked the hero well enough, and the heroine well enough as well but together they were a basic love story without any twists or turns or any real passion to speak of. That being said, I didn't dislike it and I wasn't bored with the plot but neither was I jumping for joy or praying for the story to never end. Decent enough to earn a 3 star.
This book mainly follows Duncan and his quest to find information at a remote abbey on how to defeat their monstrous foe. There he meets Lavinia,, the Abbess with her own secrets and Sarra, a young girl who is the gods' mouthpiece.
Back at Lady Merewen's keep, Gideon is trying to recruit the neighboring landholders to their cause, while Murdoch and Lady Alina dance circles around their feelings. And just who is Sigil really?
First I would like to mention how stoked I was to get this ARC. Absolutely love this fantasy realm Alexis Morgan created, mixing two genres that I love!
The world is not too complex or difficult to understand. Almost similar to our own but magic is prominent. Not too prominent but plays a key role.
Only two gods are mentioned. They come into play when needed.
We were introduced to the hero in My Lady's Mage. Duncan is one of the "Damned". In My Lady's Mage - how he and his comrades became the damned is revealed and how they came into the world.
Each one have their own uniqueness. Duncan is a scholar at heart. As we get deeper in the book we learn the influence of his scholarly interest and why he became a warrior.
The story picks up right where My Lady's Mage left off. What is nice is Gideon and Merewen still play important roles but in the side compacity.
80 pages - we are introduced to a new character. Not much is known about him but he played a pivotal role in My Lady's Mage.
The heroine - Lavina - We get snatches of information about her life. Not enough to form a solid opinion. But as of right now she is inwardly strong, a leader and protector.
She is somewhat aware of the evilness encroaching the land.
196 pages in - Ahhh we learn Lavina's connection to The Duke, and why the villian wants her so much. Not gonna post about it here but I love it.
Really like how Alina and Murdoch's relationship is progressing in the background; however I hope this is no way jeopardizing them getting a book.
Sigil's person is a mystery.
But I still <3 Kane. I can't wait until he gets a book.
So I gobbled up the last remaining pages! Now the long tortous waiting for the third book. Unfortunately getting the ARC of this book my wait is MUCH longer than others. This is an excellent series.
Duncan has sworn to follow the Lady of the River and take any quest she deems worthy as his own. He and his four fellow brothers are the Damned, immortal warriors who strive to redeem their honor. Now Duncan’s duty sends him on a pursuit for ancient texts containing the secrets to overcome an evil sorcerer, Duke. When his quest leads him to a remote abbey, Duncan is both eager and wary of the beautiful abbess who holds the key to his search.
Lady Lavinia knows far too much of men and magic to trust the wayward knight who shows up at her abbey. Even when it becomes evident that his quest lies along the same path as her own, she is wary of the association. But Duncan is so much more than a typical man. She will need his knowledge, his protection, and even his love if she is to survive the coming darkness.
Time grows short for those who stand against the Duke. Duncan and Lavinia must find a counter to the dark magic the evil man has sent throughout the land. When good and evil clash, love will be the tie that binds them together. If they can only overcome their own demons in order to fight together.
Ms. Morgan pens a full fantasy world complete with a stunning cast of characters. I would highly recommend picking up My Lady Mage in order to catch up on the back story before delving into this medieval style fantasy. The book is a bit difficult to dive into, but once a reader is in it does deliver. Those who love knights, ladies, swords, and sorcery will love the Warriors of the Mist.
Check out our interview with Alexis Morgan and enter for a chance to win an ARC of Her Knight's Quest!
Sigh... I just LOVE a good fantasy romance that is set in the classic medieval period. And Her Knight's Quest fits that bill perfectly!
When last we left the Warriors of the Mist, five Damned Warriors who are forced to spend their time under the river until a worthy supplicant makes a request for their aid, they had just taken over the stronghold of Merewen's uncle in their attempts to force the evil from Agathia. Unfortunately, the problems are deeper than just the evil of Merewen's uncle. The black magic is spreading throughout Agathia and in order to battle the magic, the Warriors must know more about their enemy. In order to discover it, the captain, Gideon, determines that the group must separate and that means that the scholar of the group, Duncan, is off to an abbey with a renowned library in the hopes of learning more of what they are fighting against.
I won book #3 in this series through a goodreads giveaway, but, having not read the first two books, I decided to start at the beginning and read the whole series. I'm glad that I did! While fantasy isn't my thing, I do enjoy medieval romance and paranormal romance, so this seemed like a good fit. Being the second in the series, there was minimal world building and the magic constraints were fairly simple to understand. It didn't take up a lot of the story telling. That being said, while I liked the characters in book 1, Duncan and Lavinia were absoulte bores. I really just wanted to thump her in the center of her forehead and he was a snooze fest. I didn't care about them, if they got together, or really what happened to them. This one is the middle book and it read like a middle book - good for the overall story arch, but really just a transition book to introduce new characters and new action. I liked it, but it took me a long time to read because I just didn't care about the hero & heroine.
This book follows Duncan's story in much the same way the first was Lady Merewen's and Gideon's. I really love the way Alexis Morgan moves the storyline along. While the men don't have much character development, it is because they are already the epitome of the chivalrous warrior. The biggest development from them is their adapting to magic being used for more than evil.
I would highly suggest this book and series overall to any who enjoy the more historical books with knights and magic. I enjoy reading the storyline of these warriors who fight against darkness, but all have a bit of darkness within themselves that they are afraid of as well.
I am really disappointed in this book. I read the first 100 pages and everything was magic this and magic that and I just couldn't get into it. Duncan was going to the abbey to look at their books and yes he got there but by the time I gave up, he still hadn't seen their books. It seemed every time someone sneezed there was a magical reason for it. Too confusing and boring. Thumbs down on this series.
I liked this one more than the previous one. It was a good continuation of the story. Even though the main group split up, the action was followed easily on both sides. Nice character growth. Looking forward to the conclusion.
Light read. Writing in this one is a bit repetitive (the character thinks of doing something, then does it after the next few paras), could use editing. I read through it in bed —perfect for a sleepy day when you don’t want to think too much or too hard.
asdfghjkl I WANT! I won the Warriors of the Mist book one giveaway and askdfjkfsdjlf I want this one sooooooooooooooooo bad. I have been waiting forever for it to come out!
I enjoyed this even more than the first book in the series. The romance was top notch, though I felt like the ending was a little rushed. Now I'm chomping at the bit for the next one to come out.
A bit slower than the first book in the series but overall really good. I'm kind of scared to read the next one since I imagine we'll be closer to the Duke.
