An ancient god on a destructive path of vengeance...
Imprisoned by the Archangel Lucifer ages ago, Summit, the Dark God, wanted nothing less than equivalent retribution. After breaking free and successfully retaining some splintered shards of his sanity, Summit set out to confront Lucifer. The Archangel was nowhere to be found. He has, however, left behind his most coveted mortal bride. The Dark God stormed into Hell to capture Lucifer's one and only weakness, but inadvertently abducted the wrong female - his own.
A reluctant heroine...
As a mortal raised among the demons inside a floating castle in Hell, Amara's life is not exactly what you would call normal. When she finds herself abducted by a half-mad god, who mistook her for the woman who brought her up, Amara chooses to hide her identity to protect her foster mother at the risk of her own life.
One of the best trilogy I have read in a long time!!! If u like your dark obsessive anti- hero with stalker tendencies (which I love) you will love this series. This series is so funny has a strong loveable heroine and a swoon worthy hero who loves his lady almost obsessively it also has a great plot and the writing is wonderful! The first book is free and I am so glad I purchased it cos I was bored but what a find!!!
Well, this is another gem that I discovered for free on B&N. This is the first in the series with two more books that follow. The cover does not do the book justice. I guess it proves - do not judge a book by it's cover.
The hero who calls himself Noctis (he has temporary amnesia and can't even remember his name)is a deranged, insane god seeking revenge against Lucifer who imprisoned him for years in a tomb. He breaks out and finds out that Lucifer took a mortal bride. His plan for revenge is to kidnap her and kill her in front of Lucifer. His plan does not go as planned - he kidnaps the wrong mortal. Instead, he kidnaps the foster daughter to Lucifer's wife Amara.
From this point forward they engage in a cat and mouse game. She escapes and is re-captured at least two times. He is ruthless in his pursuit of her. The heroine routinely tries to annoy him. Parts of this book were very funny. In one scene early on, he puts her in a room with a bunch of lycans expecting her to be harmed. He comes back and she has befriended them and is playing strip poker and winning. He is a hero in which you don't know if you like him or you don't, but eventually you do.
Gradually, he grows to care for her. He is very sweet to the heroine at times. Deep down he is an honorable man, but has routinely been dealt a bad hand in life.
It ends on a cliffhanger so I definitely will be reading the next two books. There also were some interesting secondary characters thrown into the mix. I hope their stories get an ending.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The dialogue with the H was so entertaining. There were times that I found the h's silly behavior annoying. I wish she would have taken the kidnapping a little more seriously. Anyway, I couldn't stop reading and am looking forward to continuing the series.
Loved this one. I had read a book earlier from this author under a different name and this book has references to that book. Eager to read next book in this trilogy
God, this book hurt. The beginning was funny but then the late beginning hurt and the middle hurt and the ending HURT. The book is specifically made to wreak havoc on my emotions. There wasn't a single bloody instance in this whole book where I felt at ease or happy. It was just sadness and sadness and even more sadness. I really don't want to read the sequel but like, I have to. I have to know what happens. I have to know how Summit/Noctis and Amara end up and what happens to Nala and Trent and if Lucifer does wake up and if he does, does he still love Kali? What happens to Chevalier? Does Kali love him? God. It's my intense curiosity and a little masochism that's going to make me read the sequel. I'm never going to be happy unless I know everything. I fucking hate this.
Edit: okay I couldn't help it. I wasn't going to be able to go through all this hurt if I didn't know there was a happily ever after by the end. So I went and read the last page of the third book and it ends with them together. Thank fuck. I don't know what happens with Nala and Trent and Lucifer and Kali and Chevalier, but what I know is Amara and Noctis end up together and that's enough to pacify the rage in my heart. We can do this.

But I have decided that I'm picking up this new series. Commends, Dahlia Lu.
h: Amara, she is pretty awesome. A work of art. H: Like Heathcliff my love, he's a villain and does heinous acts but I've fallen for him.. what to do, what to do..?
Plotline: I like it. I'm difficult to please when it comes to books but hmm Dahlia Lu.. You're good. Caught me in your web. I've picked up the series, I have three of your books already and I plan to read more. I'm excited for your upcoming books too. [EDIT: I suffered a huge let-down with Nala's story and the writing changed, I don't like it. I don't know if I want to continue this series anymore. Maybe it was just a fluke.]
Side characters: I didn't like how Nala stole the limelight for the last section of the book but I liked Nala so I was going to read her book anyway and knowing what she did was helpful for that (her) book, but in the future books of Amara and Noctis, I want the story to center on them more. (This story is progressing at a slower pace, kind of like my lovable and treasured Karen Marie Moning's (goddess!) FEVER series.) Nala is dying inside and I find her barbaric way of life intriguing. Actually, all of the character are Oddballs. SERIOUSLY. It's because they've got this flavor of nuttiness that I got enticed by them. Oh, and that pink headed chick, the Lycan King's unofficial mate.. WOW What an entrance. I'll remember that. I went "UH.. WHAT?" That was a bit batty for me, but not for our heroine apparently. Pink head girl, I can't remember her name, A-, her mom is the Oracle. Huh. Well, we've got Trent (I like him, confusing as he is) the Demon Prince, Kali, Nala (she's Trent's instinct, half of Trent, full demon, she just , demon princess), Amara's foster mom (she's a demoness, used to be a mortal, married to Lucien), Lucien's asleep for thousands of years now (three?), Amara's an orphan that Kali picked up, she's mortal but she can transport and do some magic, there are demons and a necromancer in here, magic-weilding people, god (that's our anmesia-ridden hero/villain;)), the lycans, the demons, the vampire king, that C-guy, Kali's bff from the past.. so many characters to explore.

This book had me entertained from start to finish. A quick read, (I read it in about 4 hours), I was laughing throughout most of the book and a little sad when it ended, luckily this is a trilogy.
Amara is the foster daughter of Lucifer's once mortal bride. Yes, that Lucifer, the one and only. She is visiting her mother in Hell, when she is taken hostage by Lucifer's arch nemesis, known only as "Noctis" because he can't remember his name. Mind you, this "arch nemesis" happens to be 6'5 and utterly handsome. Between spending endless amounts of time together and basking in his male godliness, (oh yea, I went there), Amara begins to develop an attraction to this man. Unbeknownst to him and his epic ideas of revenge, he has the wrong girl! Not too mention, she is not the only one who is suddenly attracted to the other. Needless to say, all hell breaks loose, (no pun intended).
The lead characters were very very likable. This is one of the first books I've read in a long time where the heroine outshines the hero. I truly liked Amara and while I liked Noctis as well, she still had my vote as favorite character in the book.
A fast paced story, it was descriptive, entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny. The characters were likable and while not necessarily exactly like us, (this is fiction and we are talking about demons and gods here), you could relate to them on certain levels.
I had two small complaints however, which kept me from giving this book five stars. There were some editing problems. I believe this was self published so while there were mistakes, I have to give Ms. Lu credit as the errors were actually very minimal. The only other small thing would be another story-line within the story-line. Sometimes that can draw you away from the main premise of the book. This one felt somewhat out of place and unnecessary. Hopefully the next installment will rid me of this notion.
Overall, I really did enjoy it. It was light, it was funny, it was original.
I am very happy to find such a rare gem. I might say that the cover did not do this book justice. This was just such an amazing book with great characters that you will not forget.
I enjoyed the plot and the way the story flows. The heroine, Amara is someone you can relate to and very lovable. She was just amazing - a work of art as I might say. She was just perfect for Noctis the Dark God.
The way Amara handles her situation and problems were great. Her loyalty of defending her foster mother Kali and the way she made friends with just everyone she just met and made some powerful friends. I love how she stood nose to nose to Noctis even though she was frightful and scared of him. What's more You can READ both AMARA & NOCTIS's POV!! as well as other character's POV. Nala and Trent's relationship is a bit overly dramatic for me that I could not stand it. To sum it up I did enjoy the story a lot and recommend it to everyone who love to read Paranormal stories. Don't let the cover fool you.
A nice read. More of and "I liked it" than an "I really liked it". The humor was great (gotta love a sarcastic leading lady). As much as I love stories with the lead charactering sacrificing him/herself, this story didn't completely capture my love for it. I did really enjoy it, but I probably would've loved it if there was more development between Noctis (Summit) and Amara. It also seemed disconcerting adding other developing relationships like Nala and Trent's when I was expecting the book to focus on Amara and Noctis. It seemed weird that the ending (the one before the epilogue) ended with Nala's situation, but I liked how the epilogue ended.
While I didn't love the book, I am interested in continuing the series. I recommend the book for those who enjoy paranormal romances with some comedy thrown in.
I know, I know, I hate reading books that are in a series (especially because I don't have the others to read!!!) but this was great! Abrupt at the end, but also for some reason a little satisfying as well. I truly feel for Summit/Noctis and can relate to Amara and her fierce loyalty to her mother. Neither one wants or needs love, but things don't always go the way you want them to. Nala is so very lonely and Trent cannot see that he breaks her heart each time he refuses her affection. Kali waits for her husband, Lucifer, to wake---when will that happen?
This author is truly gifted and I will actively search for anything written by her.
When I saw the name of the book my first thought was its one of those cliche romance novels and only after reading a few reviews did I gave it a try. I'm glad I did the story line was extremely entertaining at times, though I did not read into the verbal abuse I just took it at face value because it is just a book. Noctis was very much a dark God but Amara irritated me at time. Because really how many time can you be kidnaped by the same person and be rescued. I am happy this wasn't the love at first site kind of book and the characters developed the connection to each other over time. I absolutely love Trent and nala I want more of there story.
The book is so great and the story is breath taking. It was also funny,Amara is such a wonderful character I adore her,she is just amazing because you can feel her strong will and the love she had for Kali that she was ready to do anything for her.Andlet's face it ,it take a lot af courage to stand up to a man like Noctis.I felt sorry for Noctis,he was tricked and impresonned for so many years and I like his character,he has every thing I love in a hero, he's wild and possessive and all that.I read book 1 and 2 and wainting for the third book.
I had read one of the previous books of this author about Lucifer and pretty much annoyed myself with it and never bothered to pick up the next one. This book, I got for free somewhere and so decided to give it a chance. It's somewhat better written. It feels more thought out and captivating. I still do find many of the previous faults still present though.
I have had this book on my Nook for quite some time and I thought I would take a moment to check it out. This was truly a little gem of a book.
Our story opens as the dark god Summit awakens. He has no memory of who he is only that Lucifer had locked him away. He hears that Lucifer has taken a mortal for a bride and he decides that he is going to kidnap her. Unfortunately for him, he actually kidnaps the wrong woman. Amara is actually the foster daughter of Lucifer's wife.
During the beginning, he begins to call himself Noctis since he really does not remember who he is and takes Amara to a group of Lycans thinking that she will be harmed or even maybe killed. Unfortunately for him, he comes back to find her in the middle of a game of strip poker.
There are moments of where Amara does try twice to escape him and he always brings her back. She does her best to annoy the hell out of him and he wants nothing more than to kill her in front of Lucifer for revenge but we do so see a change come. He starts to find himself caring for her and she the same.
But that cliffhanger - I just was not expecting. At least now, it has me curious about reading the next book in this series.
I actually pleased with this book. I found it to be a rare gem of a book and a great read. I tend to have these little gem books under piles of books that are bestsellers and normally these little gems are great to get away from the mainstream area of books. If you want a book to get away with, then this one would definitely be one to consider.
I was captivated by this series and was pleasantly introduced to the author, Dahlia Lu. I loved this book and the push and pull we get from the two main characters. Amara is not a weak spirited captive and can definitely keep her own against Summit/Noctis. This book is a page Turner and hot in between too. Please give it a try!
1.5🌟 What is with hs and their sarcastic attitude! It's not funny it's annoying REALLY! It was an abrupt end! H and h didn't even have reunion! I don't get it ..What kind of ending was this? And don't know if I will read the next book. This Nala character gave me creeps. Don't want to read about her love life. A girl who is uncontrollably pathetically in love with someone who don't care. God BOooooOoooring.
Book Review- The Dark God’s Bride by Dahlia L. Summers
In Book one of the series, Noctis is a god who has been trapped in the earth for thousands of years by Lucifer. He finally breaks free and focuses on his revenge. It becomes his sole mission. He learns that Lucifer has a mortal wife and decides to use her for his revenge. He breaks into the palace and kidnaps the only mortal female he sees. Of course she isn’t who he believes she is. Amara is the foster daughter of Lucifer’s wife Kali. She refuses to enlighten her captor of her true identity in order to protect Kali. She endures his attitude and arrogance. She refuses to be cowed by him and constantly tells him what she thinks. She exasperates him at every turn. She even escapes twice, but he always finds her and brings her back. As a result his feelings start to change. Amara is no longer a weak mortal in his eyes. He wants her as his companion. Unfortunately for her, he figures out who she is not. Her failure is huge and her guilt blinding. She fears the consequences of what she has done. I like the story line of this series and how Amara meets Noctis. It was funny to read about how they drove each other crazy. He truly wanted to strangle her at times. I knew his feelings would change. The story was predictable enough. However the ending left an excellent cliffhanger. The next book will have a great place to pick up where this one left off. However the beginning of the story seemed a bit choppy in the writing style. As the story moved along it seemed to flow more smoothly like the author grew more comfortable as the story evolved. I give it a 3 out of 5.
Amara is a human girl. She's abducted by Noctis, a immortal with powers of a god. Noctis thinks Amara is Lucifers bride and he wants revenge, and is planning to use Amara to hurt his former friend, who sealed him in a hole in de ground.
Amara is 20 years old and an oracle told her that her mortal life will end at 23. She's a compassionate and curious girl. She's friends with demons, lycans, a necromancer, a mermaid end adopted sister of the prince of hell.
Noctis is a very handsome, blue eye, dark haired and chiseled man, who is used to dictate his will and take what he wants. A former prince and warrior, who was betrayed by his family and wife. He doesn't trust anyone and has nothing to lose.
The ending in part 3 could be better, but overal the story interested me till the end.
Noctis had been told a lie and Amara finds out later, and decides to protect the one who told the lie. But because of that he thought the worst of her and thinks dat she did something that hurt him deeply. In the ending that isn't resolved. The story of Amara's brother and the present she received from Raya isn't concluded.
Dahlia Lu has found another fan! The Dark God's Bride was wonderful. I like books that keep you interested by doing flash backs to help describe how and why the current characters are who they are. Some may find this disturbing or distracting, but to me it just makes the book better. The characters were well developed using this technique.
I love series books, and often wait to read the first until the third is out. This book absolutely has a big cliff hanger, and I will have to re-read this to be able to savor the flavor. The book ended too quickly as I read it straight through.
The book drove me through a gamut of emotions including laughter, anger at male arrogance, cheering for the reluctant heroine, anticipation of the next elements in the book, and admiration for the heroine Amara.
The book needed some grammatical edits, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
I liked it. That's pretty much it. I probably would've loved it if I liked the main character a little bit more and the story didn't have two dominant love stories (Amara & Noctis/Summit and Nala & Trent). I really liked Amara in the beginning because of her humor and courage, but started liking her less because of her impulsive and stubborn attitude. As for the 2 dominant love stories thing, while I don't mind different relationships happening at the same time in the series, I don't like it when more than 1 shares the spotlight in a single book.
Despite my complaints, the book isn't that bad. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if there's something else that you really want to read. I'd say it's good to read if there's nothing else on your to-read list that you're dying to read.
The story line is original, the world of the novel is wonderfully drawn, and the characters are intriguing. And that kept me reading.
Granted the book was a free Kindle read, but free is no excuse for the incomprehensibly bad editing. The horrendous editing detracted from the fresh and interesting plot. By the end of this first volume I could only hope this was a really poor translation into even poorer English.
The definition of a good trilogy is any of the books can stand on their own as a complete tale. That is unfortunately not the case here. Volume One ends like an old time soap opera episode, incomplete.
With a professional editor, this author has the potential to become a best selling author. She certainly has the creativity and the imagination.
Pročitala sam mnogo gluposti u svom životu i trenutno ne mogu da se setim ni jedne knjige koja je gora od ove... Zanemariću upotrebu Present Perfect vremena- jedino što ovde vredi je ideja i to je to. Stil? Hvata me muka... Likovi? Jednodimenzionalne replike nekih boljih romana... Ritam?
I Really like Amaras spunk. This novel throws you right into the action with out any preamble. I was immediately immersed in the story and laughing at Amara and the way she handled the God with out much fear for herself. I was however disappointed in the ending. This novel could have had a few hundred pages more to get to a satisfying ending. Instead it just ended in the middle of the story. though it is a trilogy, this made absolutely no sense. There was no solution to any problem in the story. I was very disappointed in it. its not a cliff hanger, it just ends. I would suggest merging the next novel with this one to make the story arc complete
I loved the idea of this book. Sounds interesting, entertaining and original.
I hated the execution. Lots of things in this book didn't make any sense, Amara didn't act rational whatsoever, and, really, neither did anyone else. Noctis (Summit) is a jerk, all around - and really, what is he a god of? Trent & Nala are twisted and screwed. Kali doesn't seem to give a crap about what happens to her kid. The writing is choppy and has no flow.
The idea and the story could be great. They're just...not.
The only reason this didn't get slapped with a DNF is because I needed it for a challenge.
