This book is on of those where I wish half stars were available. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer I loved the book but can't decide how the general public would rate it. For me, the stories were a flashback to my experiences and the history and culture I had learned while living in Samoa with many more details. I enjoyed the characters which were interconnected through the generations and the beauty of the Fa'a Samoa, which was rarely appreciated by those who tried to "modernize" the islands.
Wish I could share it with friends but it is on my Kindle.

An excellent novel that blends history and strong characters beautifully to make the story come alive. For me this was the equivalent of “Pillars of the Earth” in a different setting. A fabulous way to learn about a place. A friend lent it to me and I wish I could buy a copy for myself because it’s a book I would read again!
