An Oral Fixation

Rate this book
Official Description: Quinn Reed knows exactly how long he’s been in love with Cooper Bradshaw. In fact he could tell you right down to the very minute. He and Cooper have never been anything but friends, though, and as seems to be his luck, whenever he’s considered trying to make a move, either he or Cooper have been otherwise involved. Now that’s all about to change. Spring break is here, and for the first time in years they’re both single. Quinn thinks his time has finally come, his chance to put his plan to seduce Cooper to the test, but things don’t go quite the way he plans.

Original Prompt:
Dear Author,
I feel like these two have a lot of fun together, but they're just friends. Until this licking game turns into something more. Right after this moment, I bet there's a really hot look and a whole lotta sexual tension.

Photo Description: A young man in a tank top is smiling, eyes closed, while another young man in a backward hat licks his right cheek.

TOO SHORT! That was way too short! Ugh. I need to create a badge to officially declare my Piper Vaughn fangirl status. This woman kills me with everything she writes. It goes from adorable, to raw and naughty and maybe just a little bit dirty all within the pages that have me blushing and making a fool out of myself as I read it around people who must think by now I am a bit nutty.

The picture prompt for this could not have been more adorable or perfect. Gah! Just, yeah. So stinking cute, playful and sexy.

Quinn and Cooper *swoon*...friends to lovers is one of my favorite types of stories to read. The secret longing, the UST and the unrequited love that really wasn't if only they had just looked or tried or...ugh. This was great. The ice cream, the photo booth, the Ferris Wheel, the ice...oh boy! *clears throat* So great, so unf and I want more. I love these short stories but I am always left with wanting more. MORE. MORE. MORE.

2.8 Stars - cute but it never really took off and became wonderfully memorable.. - but a nice YA shortie

An Oral Fixation is another free quick read about young men and wistful love. In my opinion an okay read but not superb.
(By the way.. Is it my limited knowledge in the English language or isn't this a odd title?)

It all start with this first sentence:
‘Quinn Reed had been in love with Cooper Bradshaw for 2 years, 4 months, 19 days, 3 hours, and 42 minutes. He knew the exact time, down to the very minute, because he’d thought about it constantly pretty much every day since. In his head he referred to it as The Moment of Realization.’

...and that's the simple plot for this shortie.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Nothing you haven't read or seen before, but after all quite charming. Well, atleast I always become quite pleased, glad and encouraged by reading about young tentative attraction and longing.

The boys' initiative capacity was it nothing wrong with either. When they, after several years, dared to take the first step and start to flirting..wow! I'm just saying; ice cubes ~ hot but brrrrr!
‘He dipped two long fingers into the cup and fished out some ice, popping the small cubes into his mouth like candy.’

I LIKE - good enough but I lacked that little extra

I didn't dislike it. But didn't really like it either. It seems like a pretty shallow story. All we know about Cooper is he's hot and smiled at quinn... and that quinn has to listen to two years of Cooper's sex marathons and they make him sick but still don't know why he loves coop. Some how him making gestures with his tongue made Quinn realize he was in love with Cooper?

Even after the beginning which i hated then it felt like all we saw was the physical lust stuff but they kept saying it was love but i just couldn't see it. The whole two years of fuckathons seems like a long time for everything to then come together in one day. And they never really talk or anything I have no idea why they "love" each other.

Yeah nothing in this story or how they went on for two years seemed like love, physical lust sure. And he broke up with Simon months ago and Quinn hasn't had bf so still why the long wait. I also didn't like that Cooper started dating Simon, waited for Simon to fall in love with him and then dumper Simon. yeah really shitty thing to do. then brood for months, even though you supposedly loved Simon but broke up with him for Quinn. And then all of the sudden everything is better in one day and you decide you want Quinn. the end

It's a nice, sweet story. Yet, I couldn't help thinking this as another example of an author imposing what she (and many other m/m romance authors regardless their gender) thought about men: that men don't talk about their feelings whatsoever. A misguided popular belief that jumps from "men talk about their emotion less than woman do" (which is correct) into "men don't talk about their emotion whatsoever, unless their lives depend on it" (which is not). Hence, tons and tons of m/m romance based on this supposedly 'lack of communication'.

Since both MCs are gays (or I should say at least one of them is bi) and they're best friends, there's no real reason for them not to realize their attractions to each other sooner than 2 years. Had one of them been 'straight' before, I can understand. But that's not the case. Even worse, Cooper had to date another guy even though he knew he's in love with Quinn. Likewise, Quinn dated other guys when all he had to do was simply waited for a while since Cooper changed bf/gf like he changed underwear anyway, so there had to be time when they both were available.

And, what's with the animosity between Coop and Patrick? It doesn't add anything to the story, IMO.

Still, the writing was good. So, it gets 3 stars.

The prompt photo is one of my favorites in the event -- and knowing that Piper Vaughn is the one nabbing it, gives me assurance that the story will be wonderful (because that's Piper's style).

And Piped doesn't let me down. The story is wonderful from start to finish. It's the best friends turn lovers theme and it's very well done. Love the uncertainty that Quinn feels, when Cooper seems to change the game by doing the flirting. It's nicely played. Oh, and the scene of that prompt photo is also well included in the story.

So yeah, another satisfactory read.

Piper Vaughn’s An Oral Fixation is a warm, light adorable read filled with teasing, licking, sucking, and fu….*clears throat* FUN. I was going to say fun. ;)

”Quinn watched in absolute fascination as Cooper ate that vanilla cone in the lewdest, dirtiest, most scandalous manner possible. For Quinn, he might as well have been watching porn because he was about three seconds from coming by the time it was over.”

Quinn has been crushing and lusting after his roommate, Cooper, for years. With graduation right around the corner though, Quinn knows time is running out. The time to speak up, act, and jump on the man is now! Hehe…So what better way to bump up the tension and set sparks a ‘flying than a ROADTRIP! Can Quinn finally come clean and confess his feelings to Cooper?

I absolutely loved the escalating angst and energy between Cooper and Quinn. Their chemistry was sweet and geeky with a dash of HOT! As the space around them got smaller and closer, the heat climbed higher and higher. From the apartment to the car to the photo booth, the atmosphere and tension had me tingling and giggling!

A quick taste of pure fun.

p.s. Ms. Vaughn seems to have a direct line to my geeky heart. Especially the pocket labeled—“Geeky Accessories”. Photo booth flirting is one of my favorite things to come across in fiction. The way the small, secret space can’t help but heat up as the bodies and emotions tangle and touch. Love it!

And I have to confess—playing around in a photo booth is a fun fantasy of mine. :D When I was younger, my guys were more apt to show up in mug shots than photo booths though. But someday….. :D

Quinn has been in love with Cooper for 2 years, 4 month, 19 days, 3 hours and 42 minutes. The only problem is they never seem to be single at the same time.
But now, on a road trip to an amusement park for Spring Break, they finally are.

I love Quinn and Cooper. There is a sweet , slow build up to Quinn and Coop finally getting to be together. When Coop tells Quinn that he has wanted him forever, longer than forever, it is sweet and perfect. And the sex scenes in this story? Sweet baby Jesus in the manger, the hotness might melt whatever device you are reading it on!

I liked the writing on this one & it was cute but in the end, it didn't feel like it was about a heck of a lot other than being hot for each other. That's probably more than enough for a lot of readers. I'd have liked it if we could have explored why the two MC never got together in the first place and what's the big reason for their attraction. Some more conversations would have made this seem less superficial.

I don't understand why people try to find the meaning of the universe on the pages of a M/M romance and want to read more than the actual words the author wrote.

For those who have never had a crush on someone else, waiting for weeks and months for that person to notice you, THIS is the way that feels.

An Oral Fixation incarnates the anguish of wanting someone for so long that such a simple thing as lust becomes something else, deeper and bigger.

Do people really know why they fall in love? I don't think so, and look for a reason is unnecessary. Attraction drives you first and in time transforms into the matter of dreams, where the smell or the voice of the person you can't get out of your head rings like a second nature.

An Oral Fixation is deliciously sweet and extremely hot, and I give it six stars instead of five.

The first reaction I normally have to a very well written shorty is always MORE! Honestly, with this one I think the length worked for it instead of against it. Has it been any longer there probably would have been angst and/or unnecessary drama that would have taken away from the beauty of this story. Would I take more Quinn and Cooper? Hell Yes! Did I feel satisfied at the end? Also yes. This was a great, super sweet, off the charts hot and very well written shorty and to me, a great introduction to this author. Read.

Yay!

It was short and cute and sweet and totally Piper Vaughn. I don't have much to say. I was going to rate it a 3 for the first half because Quinn kept gushing about Cooper and I didn't see it yet. But the flirting and kissing/licking leading up to that hot as hell hotel scene. It turned me up so I'm turning the rating up.

Cute and sexy, short & sweet.

*pant pant* A slow burn, yet fast as well. Friends to lovers, dirty talk, and a happy ending. Love it, simple as that. I wish it was longer as in a full length novel, but hell its free so I"m happy. High fives you Ms. Vaughn.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Vaughn embraces the art of a short story with this adorable and well done tale of friends finally acting on their desires and becoming lovers. It’s told from Quinn’s POV, and we can see from the very beginning how he’s been longing for Cooper. He understands his friend completely, and he wants him wholly. But he also respects what they have, their friendship, and would never poach. So he’s been watching from the sidelines, hurting a little, but never ready to make a move.

What the author does incredibly well is show us just how deep Quinn’s feelings go. We get the background of how these guys have gotten to where they are now, and then we see them as they embark on their vacation, tame though it is. Quinn has convinced his friends to stop at a pier and amusement park, and when Quinn and Cooper are on their own, Cooper is the one that makes the first move. And the second and third as well. Vaughn slowly ramps up the sexual tension between them, always having that perfectly timed interruption, until finally they take that last step. And then these guys just work so well together, and it’s easy to see how they fit. And how they can continue to build on that and makes something that lasts. This story is friends to lovers at its finest, all the tension and build up, the payoff, and the believability that it can continue on forever.

Cute, short and very sweet, this is the story of two friends who realize there is potential for a lot more between them. Only this turns out to be easier said than done. As soon as one is available, the other has a boyfriend (or the occasional girlfriend in Cooper's case), and vice versa. Masters of hiding what they really want, these college students dace around each other for quite a while before breaking the pattern.

Quinn is the more hesitant of the two, suffering in silence as Cooper seems to parade an endless supply of boys and girls past Quinn. He is also the teller of the story, so I was as surprised as Quinn when the pattern changes. Not that Quinn minded, but he is still so delightfully naïve and innocent tat it takes him a while to adjust and really believe Cooper is interested in him.

Cooper is a bit of a wild boy, at least what we get to see of him. He is also, once he 'gets it', the more daring of the two. I loved how he ends up sweeping Quinn off his feet. Well, they sweep each other off their feet, but Cooper is the natural leader. And when they get going, boy does it get hot!

If you like short reads with lots of humor, if you’re not averse to a few misunderstandings, and if you're looking for some hot and increasingly emotional encounters, you will probably like this short story.

It takes a true talent to write a fabulous short story, and Piper did it! Quinn has been pining away for his best friend, Cooper, for a couple of years now. But on their spring break getaway to California, the walls come tumbling down, and Coop finally lets Quinn know that he has been as in love with him as Quinn was with him. Both were too fearful of saying anything, however, for fear of messing up their friendship. But then Coop finally takes the plunge, and gives Quinn a fun lick during some goofy fun photobooth shots. Then it just snowballs from there (pun intended). Quinn and Coop are sweet and fun characters, they have some great buildup, a very hot and unique sex scene, and some very tender moments of love.

Great short story all around!

This was so sweet. Quinn has been in love with his best friend for years but the timing never worked out. Now, he and Cooper are spending spring break together with their roommates and they are finally both single at the same time. Quinn is determined to tell Coop how he feels, but Coop is faster. This was a super short story, but I felt like I got a good understanding of the characters and how they got to where they were. I would love more of these guys.

I'm pretty sure the author has no idea how to write a bad story, because this book, though short, is sooooo hot, I'm surprised my computer didn't burst in flames.

Ms Piper, you continue to awe me, and your devoted fans love your naughty imagination and your ability to put it on a page so that others can enjoy it as well!!!

I loved it so much, and I know I was not the only one!
