My Way Is the Highway

What would you do if your sleazy boss ran his hands all over you and then blamed you for not doing your job well?

"Jeans, T-shirts, shorts, vests, undies, floaters, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, sunscreen, floss, gloss, kajal, deo, curl serum, painkillers, Swiss knife, camera, iPod, laptop, chewing gum, notepad, pen, map. And oh the black dress, the black heels and the push up bra--just in case!"

What would you do if your sleazy boss ran his hands all over you and then blamed you for not doing your job well?

Well, I just packed off on a road trip! Just me in my old jeep, Iqbal Mastani, we travelled all the way from Delhi to this little guest house up in the mountains. I met people I had never known (cute boys who taught me to fish), did things I would have never done (sleeping drunk in a cold balcony) and somewhere in the middle of that, fell in love! Lanka in all its diversity.

One of my Goodread book. It was very exhilarating, I was hooked from the very first page. Urvashi Gulia has used both the goods of First-person and Third-person narratives. I've placed My Way Is the Highway in a special set of books where I keep Hamlet, Great Expectation, Pride and Prejudice, Alce's Adventures in Wonderland, Kane and Abel, HARRY POTTER, Etc. I had a wonderful time with it......

The plot is great. Though the writing itself is a little difficult to understand. Though maybe this was the way author likes to write her story. But I think the story could be have done a better job. At some point the story could be boring.

I cant believe this book was the only book this author has.

I have known the author personally for the last seven years, and so when I picked this book up from a shop in Mumbai while on a working tour, I expected a thoroughly entertaining, somewhat bittersweet read with very identifiable characters and I'm happy to report I wasn't disappointed.

Urvashi has dropped dollops of insight from people that she's worked with in the media industry and taken inspiration from the numerous friends that she appears to make effortlessly and weaved them around a smooth narrative that makes for a breezy read. I must have taken not more than two days of intermittent reading to get through the entire book but that's not to suggest the content was frivolous. Adding anything more would be a spoiler, I'd highly recommend this neat and honest debut from an author who'll surely have a lot more to share in the coming years!

The book speaks for yourself. You can relate to a lot of situations, dialogues, dilemmas and moments described in the book experienced by a person or a girl to be more precise. I loved the realistic touch and they way it was composed. It inspires me to complete my piece of writing which I have kept pending for quite some time now.

Author - Urvashi Gulia (@urvashigulia)

Book - My Way Is The Highway

Favourite Character - Mansha Sharan

Genre - Comedy/Drama

Language Usage - Good, and the usage of words is such that epople from all spheres can go ahead for it, be it beginners or experts. Grammatically, well written.

Page - 265

Plot - Mansha is in her late twenties and is a journalist by profession. She doesn’t hate her work but the seniors, especially her boss. She is in reality confused with respect to her choices. Her black clouds, that’s her fate, are her biggest enemy.

One fine morning, when her hard work is going to someone else, she bangs the door shut of her boss and leaves for a trip with no intimation to anyone. She zeroes in on a hill station as a getaway. And the story continues from there.

Read Time - 4 to 6 hours

MRP - Rs 150

Rating - 3.5/5

Review - It is a fun read. The trip being neither a romantic one nor a planned one, leaves the reader to read more. A good attempt. A novel which might touch the young chords in order to rediscover themselves.

I, at times, felt disconnected when the reference with the past life was thrown out of blue. However, I was able to get a hold of it gradually as I started understanding the author’s way of writing.

I had gifted this book to my younger sister 3 years back on her 20th birthday. I had not read the book then. But I had liked the plot. And today, I don’t regret my purchase as the character was very relatable (Mansha & Veer - her elder brother).

I was given a PDF copy of the book by a friend who knows the author.
It was awesome inspiring read, fun filled adventure.
It was not released in Japan that time so I ended up ordering. Couple of copies on Flipkart & still gift this book to my friends.

Waiting eagerly for another book from the author :)!!

Its a complete chick book. Sometimes you do need to get some time for yourself ...just for yourself....leaving behind all your worries and daily beats. Could relate so so well with the protagonist!! Great writing skills ....Way to go girl!!
