I read this because it was supposed to have a Sherlock Holmes appearance. It did, but it turned out to only be a cameo.

It’s still a good story. All about red kryptonite and two chameleon men that are using it to try to destroy Superman.

Day 50: Action Comics #283 (December 1961):

"The Six Red 'K' Perils of Supergirl!"

. . . Continuing of "The Unknown Supergirl" storyline.
Kara Zor-El/Linda Danvers has recovered her Kryptonian powers and gained immunity to Kryptonite thanks to Mister Mxyzptlk's meddling and she's happier than she's been in a long while. Feeling re-charged and now impervious to Kryptonite, Kara spots a swarm of six Red Kryptonite meteors and decides to smash them to atoms so Superman and Krypto won’t run the risk of encountering them and be harmed.
However when she returns to Earth, her body undergoes three different strange metamorphoses at three very inconvenient times. Linda soon realizes she may be immune to Green-K, but she's still very affected by Red-K. She remembers that she came in contact with six meteors. Worried, she wonders how she'll be affected by the remaining three pieces of Red Kryptonite.

Trivia: First 12¢ issue in series.

*I am reading one Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El (Earth-One) story every day, starting with her introduction in May 1959 in Action Comics #252, until her final appearance in October 1985, in Crisis on Infinite Earths #7.
