The last book of the series and possibly my least favourite I guess. Our heroine is a super successful prosecutor reeling from her first ever loss and life crisis when she comes home and runs into the hero who she shared one super night with months before. Our hero is easy come easy go with women and has a lot on his plate, his job, dealing with his sick mother and basically being a parent to his difficult out of control teenage brother. While the heroine was a straight-laced teenager, the hero was a hell-raiser whose near-death experience put him on the straight and narrow. I felt this book basically was about the heroine discovering who she was and what she wanted long-term in life and the romance wasn't so dead-center. h/H do take a lot of time to come together as a couple so maybe that is why this wasn't a favourite of mine but it was still great. I am bummed to have come to an end to all of this author's published works and have to say she will be now on my auto-buy list.

A Charming and Satisfying Delight

Home is where you go when you don't have anywhere else to lick your wounds. Chicago prosecutor Kelly Silverthorne is back in her hometown of Deer Lick, Montana. After failing to successfully prosecute a man for murdering his wife, Kelly is rocked by feelings of failure and guilt, feelings unfamiliar to a serious, intent woman who has never failed at anything before. Taking a sabbatical from her life, she's helping her father and sister at the family bakery and trying to get her feet back under her.

Except it's not just the professional crisis that Kelly has to deal with, and the problem with going home again is what you find there. Family. Ghosts of your past. Memories. And for middle child and "good girl" Kelly, a different sort of pain, one with far deeper roots.

Oh yeah, and James Harley, police deputy. The man with whom she'd had one memorable, if ill-advised and drunken, night of extreme pleasure. But she was hoping to avoid the hell out of him.

James was happy to see Kelly at the Sugar Shack when he stopped in for lunch. One night with the girl he'd wanted since they were kids just wasn't enough to slake his thirst for her. Now that she's back for a bit, he has every intention of getting a repeat performance. If, in the meantime, he gets to spend genuine time with a woman who stirs more than just his body, but his heart and mind, too, well...that's just icing on one of those delectable Sugar Shack cakes.

All he has to do is convince the stubborn and uptight woman.

This book was so much more than I was expecting. Judging the book by its cover (bad of me, I know), I was thinking this was going to be a fairly predictable but enjoyable bit of brain candy. That's not in any way a criticism. I love me some brain candy. But this little gem, as it turns out, is the brain candy equivalent of finding out that chocolate has been discovered to be a health food. A delightful surprise.

I haven't read the first two books in the series, so I went into this one with a clean slate - and I'm so glad I did, because it packed a punch. It started, though, a little rocky for me. At least in comparison to the rest, anyway. Kelly and James both seemed a little stereotypical for the genre. Kelly the classic Type A personality, James the sexy bad boy with a different girl on his arm every weekend, no concept of commitment.

The brief glimpse we get of Kelly's life in Chicago was largely superfluous, and her first face-to-face with James upon her return to Deer Lick could have been read during any similar scene in every other light, sexy contemporary romance. I didn't dislike it by any means, but I have to admit, I wasn't really knocking my socks off.

Then Kelly's mother enters the story and shows up in the backseat of the car Kelly's driving. Kelly's deceased mother.

"Mom? Is that really you?"
"No, it's the stinky cheeseman."
Kelly pulled her head back. "Well, that little bit of snark is unnecessary."
"You can get away with a lot when you're dead."

And from that point through to the end, this book was a wonderful ride through family issues, personal issues, and relationship issues for both Kelly and James. The story threads surrounding the ghost of Kelly's mother added a wealth of emotional baggage to Kelly's personality. It was baggage that I, personally, related to on a grand scale. As for James, well, somewhere around meeting his two Yorkies, Poppy and Princess, it occurred to me that he was not quite the stereotype I feared he was, either.

This book that I had pigeonholed as simple (albeit sexy) fluff delivered an emotional message, one with depth and heart. That message went hand in hand with an awesome, sexy romance. Between Kelly resolving family issues and finding her inner child, and James dealing with the fallout of his past and reaching out in a more healthy way to his brother, this book ended up providing a multi-layered lesson about mending frayed family bonds and healing from past mistakes. A lesson that took this book to another level.

The romance was still sexy, and James and Kelly had great chemistry together as a couple. I thoroughly enjoyed their relationship evolution. They didn't just fit well with each other, they each, as individuals, offered something to the other that had been previously lacking. I loved that about them. It really elevated their relationship for me.

In fact, this was one of the most pleasantly surprising and fun reads I've had in awhile. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that made me sweat (in a yummy-good way), and moments that made me both think and feel. Perhaps it's still brain candy, but it's brain candy with a hell of a heart. A perfect summer read and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

I enjoyed this book soooo much. It was so nice to go back to Deer Lick and see my old friends and meet some new ones...especially Alex...can we say major crush!!

Hppt://atastyread.blogspot.com

Oh, to be back in Deer Lick, Montana, where the grass is green, the Sugar Shack is always serving up something sweet and the men in the Sheriffs Department are Smokin Hot!

Kelly Silverthorne can home to Deer Lick for her brother's wedding, but she also needed some Rest, Relaxation and Recuperation from her fast paced life in Chicago, and her last case that crumbled beneath her feet at trial. The last thing she thinks she wants is another night of unbelievable passion with Deputy James Harley, but her body and her mind are not playing on the same team.

Deputy Harley has enough on his plate to worry about, from his ill mother, to a seventeen year-old brother who has a BIG chip on his shoulder, to worrying about keeping a roof over all of their heads. He likes to keep his relationships simple, no expectations and no one gets hurt, but for some reason Kelly Silverthorne has always been the thorne in that plan, and since the last time he'd had her, he hasn't been able to stop thinking about having her again and again and again.

James thinks he is only going to be teaching Kelly to "have more fun", but in the end, I think James learns more than he ever thought possible and Kelly finally finds out what makes her truly happy, with a little help from Lettie Silverthorne and her denim over rolls.

I think this may have been my favorite book of the series. I loved each and every one, but this one has something special that took my sixteen year-old heart and spun it on spin cycle, Alex Harley.....swoon!!

Alex Harley not only challenges James up to his eyeballs, but you can see how lost and lonely he is, and that's exactly what Kelly sees when she gets the chance to get to know him better. I am SOOOOOO looking forward to the day that Candis writes a book where Alex is the hero, a heart-breaker at seventeen can only be worse for women's hearts at thirty!!

When I was finished reading Somebody Like You, I was left light-hearted and smiling from ear to ear. I just loved it!! James was SO much more than you would think at first glance. He was more than just a great body and charming smile, the typical playboy. He was sweet, kind and had a heart big enough to fill a room. So sometimes his head didn't catch up with his mouth when he was angry, and spewing all the wrong things...we can forgive him that!

I wasn't too sure about Kelly. I didn't get to know her all that well in the last two Sugar Shack books, and I honestly didn't think I was going to like her all that much, but Candis sure proved me wrong. I loved Kelly!! I thought she was funny and strong, sensitive but wasn't one to get walked on. I love her honesty, and the way she always told it like it is. James got A LOT more than he bargained for with Kelly Silverthorne, but if anyone can handle her, I know he can. And if not, Alex would scoop her up in a second...hee hee!!

I HIGHLY recommend Somebody Like You to EVERYONE!! It is a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading Second Chance at the Sugar Shack and Any Given Christmas first, just so you can enjoy all that Deer Lick, Montana has to offer!! Oh and you get to see more Matt Ryan...swoon...cant' go wrong with more Matt Ryan!!

The last Silverthorne sibling has come back home. Kelly lost a high profile case, her first as a prosecutor and it’s really hit her confidence hard and made her question if she really loves what she’s doing and if not, why is she still there? She comes home for her brother’s wedding and starts reconnecting with family and friends. Most notably, she runs into James, a deputy that she had a sexy, hot night with at her sister’s wedding months earlier. James is attracted to her, and wants to spend more time with Kelly now that she’s back in town, but Kelly aka the Serious Sister, has no idea what she wants.

James has a full plate – he’s the guardian for his rebellious 17-year old brother, his mom needs in-home care after suffering a stroke, he inherited her two ankle biting dogs and he’s working full time. But, the man needs a break and he’s set his sights on Kelly. He wants her to loosen up, have some fun and he plans some dates out for them to get to know each other better.

The angst level in this book is very low, the only real drama coming from James’s brother, Alex. He’s lived with James for years now, but they butt heads all the time. James is caught between being a big brother and a father and Alex acts out when he isn’t able to communicate with his brother. This storyline had so much potential and really drew my interest early on, especially when Kelly is brought into the mix. The resolution for the brothers felt very fast to me. There’s so much build up with the hostility, the fighting, the lack of communication and all it took was Kelly spending one day with Alex, and helping him through one sticky situation that he found himself in for the brothers to finally turn it around. It felt like this storyline took a really fast 180 and everything worked itself out fast.

The romance between James and Kelly was nice, but lacked a little in the sparks department. They progressed well through the book, fighting at the end over little brother Alex. It seems like the angst in their relationship towards the end got tossed in so there would be something for them to overcome in the final few pages. It didn’t feel necessary and seeing them instead use that communication that Kelly had been going on about would felt more natural.

I liked seeing Kelly find her happiness. She goes from basically having no idea what makes her happy and what she really wants to do, to trying a little bit of everything. From coming up with a new item to contribute to the Sugar Shack, to sewing, to making sick little kids laugh while being dressed up as clown, she goes for it, and seems to have a great time doing it. Her brother and sister play strong supporting roles in this story, and the book wraps up with a nice epilogue giving us an idea about what’s going on in everyone’s life and where things are headed.

Overall, I thought this was an ok read. It’s not my favorite in the series, I found it hard to connect to the main relationship; it felt like something was missing. The family dynamic is always something I look forward to, especially the scenes between Kelly and her dad. As a whole, I did enjoy the Sugar Shack series and would recommend the first two books, but this one just fell a little short.

I have had such fun with this series by Candis Terry. The three Silverthorne siblings couldn’t wait to get out of Deer Lick, Montana and away from the Sugar Shack, their parents’ livelihood. But when their mother passes away, the ball starts rolling, making them dodge life in a way that brings them all home.

With her perfect no-loss record as a prosecutor now bungled, Kelly Silverthorne heads home to lick her wounds and pep talk herself into getting back into the courtroom. She’s sick at heart she let so many people down and a killer is now back on the streets. Not expecting to stay long in Deer Lick, Kelly finds herself helping out at the Sugar Shack and face to face with Deputy James Harley. Embarrassed but turned on when remembering their one night together after her sister’s wedding, Kelly can’t let herself get involved because the day she’s heading back to Chicago is fast approaching. Or so she thinks anyway.

Seeing Kelly again only brings good memories to mind, ones James would like to live again. Knowing Kelly won’t be around long, James does his best to see her as often as possible, even challenging her to really find herself and do what makes her happy. When he realizes he’d like to have her with him all the time, he knows that can never be because of his situation at home. His mother has suffered a stroke and now James has her girly dogs and his rebellious younger brother to watch out for. He has too much baggage to bring someone like Kelly into his life.

What I love about his Ms. Terry’s stories is the journey of discovery her characters have. Though James and Kelly shared that one night together, there’s plenty, of course, they don’t know about each other. They both have huge issues they’d rather have stay buried, but for the relationship to work they have to share. Eventually. Kelly’s biggest disappointment was played out in the courtroom and in the news. The whole world knows. But what no one does know is what that one failure has done to her. She keeps telling herself she’s going back to the job, pick up where she left off and move on. But she also keeps ignoring those texts from her co-worker letting her know the next trial date has been moved up. James’ secret has had a much longer time to grow into guilt that he’s never let go. Though no one knows about his biggest mistake, it’s the most difficult thing for him to talk about, and it takes quite a while before he can open up to Kelly.

Though there are those tense moments in the story, especially with James’ younger brother, there’s such fun to be had with these characters. I still like the fact that the siblings’ deceased mother gives her kids advice by haunting her old boat of a Buick – and they know she’s about to appear when Tom Jones begins to sing It’s Not Unusual on the radio. I still laugh at that. And the scene where James leaves chocolate hand prints on the wall of the Sugar Shack – oh, that’s my favorite! Kelly’s journey of discovering what makes her happy is unexpected and totally fun. There’s so many good times in this book that I’d have a list for you as long as my arm if I went through them all.

If you’ve not read this series, you need to start on it soon. Ms. Terry’s writing brings a depth to the characters, amusement to the reader, intensity to the lovemaking, enlightenment to life’s issues, and a fun, new look at romance novels. I’m anxiously awaiting to see what she does next!

Kelly Silverthorne just lost one of her biggest cases. To date it's the only case she's ever lost. Going in, she'd been so confident she could put the bad guy behind bars and once again make the streets of Chicago a little safer for all. However, her super powers for winning cases, had finally met their match and Kelly now felt the guilt of that loss. She'd done her best, but she couldn't help thinking she should have somehow done better. In her defense, it's very hard to convict someone of murder without a body. Sadly, the victim's death would never be avenged.

Now she's going home for her brother's wedding and some much needed R&R. She had planned to go back to the windy city and once again fight crime from behind her briefcase, but that was before she realized she truly missed her family and wasn't as motivated as she used to be to do her job. It had seemingly lost it's allure.

Deputy James Harley was glad to see Kelly back in the tiny town of Deer Lick, Montana. He'd been waiting for her return. They'd had a one night stand, and he'd not been able to get her off his mind ever since. She'd somehow gotten under his skin. He knew she was out of his league, but there was something about her that he just couldn't resist. So to get her to loosen up and start thinking about him again, he decided to make her a wager, that he could once again get her to succumb to another night of his wily charm.
______________________

This is the third installment of the Sugar Shack series by Candis Terry. The Sugar Shack is a family owned and operated bakery that Kelly's mom, Letty, used to run with her father before she'd died. Her father stills bakes, but her sister, Kate, has taken over the reigns giving the place a new flair as only she could do. Kelly's sister and brother, Dean, each found their true love with the help of dear old mom who'd come back to haunt them in a good way. Now it was Kelly's turn to be the focus of Letty's motherly advice.

James is a known player who dates a ton of women, but swears that he never dates more than one at a time. He's had that bad boy thing down pat since his teens and now that he's one of the good guys sporting a badge, he's even more attractive than ever. This is one wager Kelly won't lose any sleep over, well maybe one night's worth, if she loses. But throughout the story James challenges Kelly on many different levels--too see the natural beauty of things and be a little wild and find her hidden talent. He basically opens up the world to the girl once given the nickname by her siblings of Sister Serious.

At one point in the story, a little girl mentions the book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. She talks of how Max tames the 'Wild Things' and then gets to go home. I think that nicely sums up this book at a couple of different points. First for the little girl, which I won't go into detail, but secondly, for James' and Kelly's relationship as well. Kelly tames the Wild Things which are Alex and James and gets to go home. A new home that includes James and his brother Alex who lives with him. Each of whom is in their own way, a bit wild and lost. So, in a way, this one might very well qualify as a fairy tale remake.

FYI, I really thought the cover was a nice touch to the story. Someone, who shall remain nameless, teasingly suggests they'd like to put the two little dogs, Princess and Poppy, into pink dresses with bows, but doesn't do it. So after reading the book take another look at the cover and smile at the inside joke and remember that moment. It's actually a pivotal point in the book because someone comes to a realization at that moment.

This was a fun and lighthearted read that at times, left me shaking my head, grinning, and laughing out loud. My daughter kept asking me what was so funny, and I'd respond, "Oh, nothing.' Yep, she knew it was the book, and I wasn't sharing.

Overall, I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses. Sometimes the brilliance of a book is lodged within the details for which it holds, and I believe this is one of them. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a STEAM rating--too hot for a fan, but you still have a handle on things. You should use extreme caution when reading a book with this rating in public. People may inquire as to why you looked flustered and flushed. Between this book and Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, I'm starting to look at bakeries in a whole new way. lol

Harper Collins sent out a notice on this book before BEA, it had a ghost and sounded fun so I downloaded it. With a ghost in the backseat of Kelly's late mother's Buick there is certainly a supernatural element to this pleasant, unapologetically sentimental read. A freaky factor is Kelly's dead mom offering advice in such a way that Kelly is almost certain to be joining her in the same Afterlife Resort, ie, popping up in the back of her car while Kelly is driving. Or, it's possible they may all die from eating too many of the family's baked goods!

There did seem to be a deist sub-text here but I decided it wasn't terribly annoying and it is hard to look at death and spirits without at least mentioning religion.

What will happen in the book is obvious from about page five. That's okay; it's how you arrive at the inevitable that counts. While the intimate scenes are rather pedestrian, or may I say "vanilla" in the extreme, the relationship is affectionate and generally respectful. James is a complex creature. He has to admit that having the responsibility for raising your brother doesn't mean you are ready to accept all that it entails. Candis gives Kelly wisdom that rings true about James and his brother. The idea that a little talking; a couple of conversations, will solve the problems between a teen and his authority figure is a bit naive. But, I liked that James wasn't the perfect hero, lover, boyfriend or brother.

And, Kelly's relationship with her mom, her dead mom, is a chance I am sure a lot of people wish they had to set things right. That relationship and James' failability offers the poignancy I refer to in the post title.

It's a little hard to believe a group of gorgeous, fit people who have left seriously lucrative careers to get back to the fundamentals of love and family in Montana, and who own and work in a bakery — puh-leeze, now that's a fantasy!

Filled with the creamiest of happy endings this book may be too sweet and unadventurous for some.

This is the third book in the wonderful Sugar Shack series by Candis Terry, an Idaho author who is finishing up this series and recently signed a new deal with Avon for another series that will also come out in paperback.

Kelly Silverthorne has come home to heal. The murder trial she had put her heart and soul in came back with a not guilty verdict and it has hit her hard. This was the first trial she has ever lost and the fact that she knows the man is guilty is even worse. So she is sitting in her family's bake shop questioning her future. She has a few weeks before another trial begins and since her brother is getting married to Emma, it is a good excuse to visit, stay awhile and make some decisions.

Kate, her little sister is running the Sugar Shack with their father. Kate's new husband, Matt is the sheriff of Deer Lick, Montana and his best friend James Harley is the deputy, James also happens to be the one night stand Kelly had during her sister's wedding reception at Christmas time. Kelly rarely drinks, always being Sister Serious, however, she let loose for the wedding and they shared an exciting night together, and then she left. She knows she would see James again, she just did not know it would be on the first day she is back in town.

Kelly is driving her mother's old car while in town; little does she know that both her sister and brother experienced the same strange occurrence with their recently deceased mother whenever Tom Jones starts singing on the radio. Kelly never had a great relationship with her mom; she was the one that did everything right and therefore felt invisible. Her mother did not realize she treated the children differently and so, as with her brother and sister, seems to want to make amends with Kelly and tell her she was loved. Her mother just communicates is an unconventional way.

James has his own problems to handle, several years ago his mother suffered a stroke and therefore he inherited two Yorkshire terriers (Poppy and Princess) and has been raising his brother (Alex) who is a teenager that seems to be finding trouble. James was a troubled kid and knows what his brother is heading for, if not for a life changing event that almost killed him and a sheriff who took him under his wing, James would not have survived his younger years.

Kelly and James bump into each other several times, and although neither seems to be looking for a relationship, they appear to be having one. At one time, James tells her she needs to find her hidden talent, something that makes her and others smile. She meets Twinkie (a clown) at the hospital and as they talk about what clowns can do for others Kelly begins to think that she might have just found it. Sprinkles is born as her alter ego.

As the story unfolds, the road to a happy ending has some rough patches; Kelly and James have several obstacles to overcome. Kelly faces a decision about her future and how she feels about herself and her mother and James needs to deal with his brother Alex. It is a wonderful story about family, love and finding your hidden talents to make you and others smile. I love seeing characters from the first two books; the interaction is fun and entertaining. You do not have to read the first two books to jump in to this book; however they are great stories to read.

Chicago prosecutor Kelly Silverthorne has always been called “Sister Serious” by her family, but she doesn’t let it bother her. Then she loses her first case ever and decides to return to her hometown to lick her wounds…and maybe even take a chance to let go of “Sister Serious.” And what better way is there to let go than to take up with Deputy James Harley, the man she had a one-night stand with at her sister’s wedding? Yet while Kelly is willing to take James up on his challenge to try new things, she’s not about to get crazy and do something as risky as losing her heart to the former bad boy. At least, not without a few supernatural pushes from her dearly not-quite-departed mother.

Return to Deer Lick, Montana in Somebody Like You. Like Candis Terry’s previous two Sugar Shack novels, Somebody Like You is an ode to small towns and finding yourself, with romance as the backdrop. Kelly and James are likeable characters and what endeared them to me the most was that each was more than what others saw them to be. They fit together perfectly and made the pages of Somebody Like You sizzle, so it was easy to become invested in their romance. The town of Deer Lick continues to delight with its plethora of goodhearted residents and the Food Network fan in me was particularly thrilled by the scenes at the Silverthorne family bakery, the Sugar Shack.

Somebody Like You is the third Sugar Shack book, but you don’t have to have read Second Chance at the Sugar Shack or Any Given Christmas to enjoy Kelly and James’s story. All the characters from the first two books do play supporting roles, however, which is not surprising since those books featured Kelly’s siblings. Having read Second Chance at the Sugar Shack and Any Given Christmas, I was a bit disappointed in Kelly’s journey. Without providing spoilers, Kelly’s discovery of her “passion” in life didn’t seem organic to her character, which was a bit of a letdown since Ms. Terry did Kate and Dean Silverthorne’s journeys of self-discovery so well in their books. Also slightly disappointing in the context of the series as a whole was the comparatively small role the ghost of Kelly’s mother played in Somebody Like You. That being said, I still enjoyed Somebody Like You, even though Second Chance at the Sugar Shack remains my favorite book in the series. Overall, Somebody Like You is a fun read that fans of lighthearted contemporary romance should enjoy.

So, I don't really like reading books in a series out of order, even if they don't necessarily need to be, but I still feel like it's spoiling something. The Sugar Shack series doesn't necessarily need to be read in order because each book involves a different sibling as the main focus. So because of that, I decided to read Somebody Like You, the third in this series! I still need to read the second, Dean's story, but I just couldn't wait until I got it to read more about this family!

Can Candis Terry do any wrong in her writing?! I seriously love her stories and this one is no different! I immediately identified with Kelly whose a lawyer working as a State prosecutor, but after a tough case, she doesn't know if she wants to go back. I graduated from law school in 2013 and practiced as an attorney for a little over a year. But I soon learned I didn't enjoy the work I was doing. Sure, there were cases that I was happy to work on and felt like I was helping, but there were so many that didn't feel like I was making a difference. So I left the practice and though I'm still working in the legal field, I'm not a practicing attorney and its a completely different area of law. I might go back one day, but right now, I love my job. And that's what Kelly finds; you do something other than what might be expected of you, especially if it's something that makes you happy! And Deputy James Harley... again, a man in uniform is hot! :) He has so many inner demons he's battling, but Kelly brings out the best in him. And in turn, he brings out Kelly's fun side and challenges her to do something different, find her hidden talent.

These two couldn't be more perfect for each other and I loved watching their relationship grow. I also really liked getting to know Alex, James' younger brother. They have a difficult relationship but Kelly really helps them work through it. This book is really well written and I can't wait to read more of her work. Hopefully I can get Any Given Christmas, Dean's story, soon! Can't wait to finish this series! I'm also really, really looking forward to the rest of Terry's Sweet, Texas novels. If you haven't read her work yet, what are you waiting for?!

After reading the blurb of Somebody Like You, I knew immediately that this was my kind of book because after all, who doesn't like romance (except for guys - they don't count)? This is the first book I've read that's by Candis Terry and it was pretty much what I expected.

Kelly Silverthorne has a record of success. She has never lost a case, at least, not until the one in the beginning of this story. Due to lack of evidence (the body), Kelly loses one of the most important cases ever because of which a guilty man goes unpunished. Unable to face her failure and utterly embarrassed, Kelly flees to her hometown in Montana to get away for a while and that's when she runs into her former one night stand, Deputy James Harley.
James Harley has always had feelings for Kelly. However, Kelly's been completely oblivious to this and never saw him as anything more than a man she once slept with.

I read this book in 3 hours. I was hoping for a quick, light, sappy and cliche romance novel and Somebody Like You was exactly that. This book falls perfectly into the romance category; actually, it's one of the good ones in the genre. Kelly and James make an adorable pair and the chemistry between them is (as expected) hot.

Although predictable, Somebody Like You is everything that it should be - short, sweet and cheesy which makes it the perfect beach read. This is the kind of book that sates a girl's need for romance and happy endings. Although this isn't a book I'd go looking for at the bookstore, if I do come across it by chance, I'd definitely pick it up - this and all the other books in the Sugar Shack series.

SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Candis Terry is a touching, sweet story that I was easily able to relate to on many levels. I fell for James Harley as hard as Kelly did and found myself easily stepping into Kelly's shoes. I enjoyed the previous Sugar Shack romances but I think this one is the best yet. I found myself cheering for James every time he brought Kelly closer to recognizing her true self even while I found myself wanting to give James a hug when he felt he wasn't worthy and a kick in the butt whenever he came down too hard on his little brother.

Candis Terry has created characters who come to life building a family and friends relationship between them and the reader. The Silverthorne family, as well as the community of Deer Lick, won't be soon forgotten and I hope we re-visit this lovely place more in the future. SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Candis Terry is a love story that contains more love than most - the love between the hero and heroine, the love between siblings, the love of parents even those who have left the earthly world, the love of good friends and even the unconditional love of faithful, albeit adorable, canines.

I highly recommend SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Candis Terry to anyone who loves a romance between a saviour and a bad boy, families who are as believable as any of our own and even a visiting spirit of a mother who refuses to stop watching over her family. I loved SOMEBODY LIKE YOU by Candis Terry and hate that she writes so emotionally that she always makes me cry at least once and with this one - three times.

I literally moments ago finished reading this and it is by far my favorite Candis Terry story. I still have tears wet on my cheeks from this story. The entire series is awesome but something about this one got me. I laughed, cried, got mad. I could feel what the characters felt.

James is a man with so many past wrongs still haunting him that he is lost and doesn't trust himself to do what's right. He lets emotions cloud his judgment and control his tongue at the worst of times. He acts as guardian to his younger brother and a deputy to his hometown. His heart is closed off from true love, or anything resembling a real relationship, until Kelly returns.

Kelly Silverthorne comes back home with a few demons of her own. She works as a top attorney with the state attorney office. She has prosecuted hundreds of cases and has finally lost her first case. The lose has left her feeling like a complete failure, a feeling that is overshadowing her whole career. She's now questioning her whole life, wondering if it's still the right type of life for her.

Will these two be able to find the will inside themselves, and with each other, to realize that sometimes all you really need is a little guidance and the ability to believe in what you thought was impossible to finally be free of their pasts and find everlasting happiness and true love.

If I could give this a 10* rating I would but Goodreads only allows 5* so I'm happily and whole-heartedly rating this story 5*s. Well done Candis!

This is the last book in the Sugar Shack Trilogy and it saves the straightest laced sibling for last. I suggest that you try to read the first two books to understand a little better, what you will encounter in this one. It is not imperative, but it will make things a little easier on you.

When Kelly Silverthorne comes back to Deer Lick for her brother’s wedding, and to recover from her first loss ever in the Prosecutors office and the first thing she encounters is the reminder that she went a little nuts on the champagne at her sisters wedding and bedded one of this towns many bad-boys. And liked it. A lot!
Naturally, Deputy James Harley is a good but flawed and hurt man who is learning from his past mistakes. As the storey unfolds, we learn how much the good Deputy is sacrificing for his family and how much Kelly is fretting over the case that she lost. We learn just how much they need to rest, relax and connect with someone who will be able to understand what their lives are all about.

This storey has fully fleshed characters, interesting narrative and excellent dialogue plus the added bonus of the Silverthorne’s deceased mama coming back from the dead to help them get their lives straight is an interesting twist.

The Sugar Shack series is the first thing that I have read by Candis Terry and I will fully admit that I think she is one very talented author!! She is now on the very top of my favorite authors to read list. I have enjoyed reading this entire series so much. Although I have to say that Somebody Like You is my absolute favorite story of the three.
This is a series that when the reader has read the last page, they will say "ah it is over with already??" YES, it is THAT good of a series. I would highly recommend it to anyone. My favorite parts of the stories were that we, as the reader were able to "watch" as each sibling took on their new identity in life.
And of course Letty, the mother who would not "pass on" until she knew each one of her children were happy. She was hysterical and made me laugh more than once in each story.

Thank you Candis for such a fun series to read!!

I read this book on a recommendation from a friend. She has not failed me yet in giving me a great book to read and introducing me to an author that I want to add to my list of favorite. Candis Terry made me want to go visit the small town of Deer Lick so I could find James and Kelly to become friends. They felt like real people who were going through some very real emotions. As always most book slay lots of ground work than make a fast turnaround towards the end when a fight/disagreement happens, the main couple makes up and rides off into the sunset together. Seeing that I read Book #3 in this series first, I must go back and read the firs two books as they will no doubt make me smile and want more!

FULL REVIEW AT Talk Supe

This short and sweet read at 18 chapters is what I needed to keep me occupied on a slow day. And I liked that CTerry wrote the story in alternating POV's, I like books where we're let inside the guy's head and made privy to their dirty thoughts and filtered reactions. And for Sugar Shack fans, I think you'll love this because Kate and Dean made appearances and I'm pretty sure you'll be loving Kate's mini story line in this one. Plus looking at the ending it seems like we'll be reading for of Letty and I think there will be more Sugar Shack stories to come.

I've only read one other story but her and it was a very short one so I really hadn't gotten a feel for her writing. So when as part of my Avon Addicts books I was asked to read it and review it I was hesitant for the main reason is I hate starting series in the middle. But being a trooper I picked it up and read it. I'm so happy that I did. It was one of the best books I've read in a while. Avon Publishing has some outstanding authors right now. I feel in love with both Terry's writing and her town. I just couldn't put the book down and can't wait to read the first two in the series. She will forever be on my must buy list.

Every Once in Awhile

Every Once in Awhile

Every once in awhile we need to meet someone like you. Someone who can shake us up a little or someone you can learn on, someone who believe in you, or someone who can make you look at things differently. That's what Kelly and James find in each other. Kelly needs to let loose and live a little, James needs someone he can learn on. Together they learn how to be better people.
Once again Candis Terry does not disappoint, she tells a great story of self discovery and finding that special someone.

This is the first I have read from Candis Terry and have to say I loved it. Now I have to get the other two books from the Sugar Shack series. The whole mother still interfering in her children's lives was great. The story line was so funny, romantic and just outright awesome. This is definitely a book that would keep and an author to keep up to date.

Third in the Sugar Shack series, this is Kelly's story. Her siblings, Dean and Kate have all found happiness back home in Deer Lick. And so does she, with James Harley, Deputy. As romances go, it's a good read, the characters are likable, love scenes are hot, and the male protagonist has his angst to get over, with Kelly the one to help him do it.

Fun, fast, and worth a look.

As this is the last book in the Sugar Shack series, i almost didn't want to read Somebody Like You, coz this would mean, i'm about to say goodbye to Momma Silverthorne, her kids, and Deer Lick, Montana.

Somebody Like You gave a nice wrap-up to the most lovable family in town. Each sibling's love story is inspiring and romantic and fun.

I hope to enjoy more Candis Terry books in the future.

I knew it. after all that this family has gone through, this last sibling was not going to have it all that easy. I was way disappointed in the result of the trial. Unfortunately, it is probably a common occurance.

This was however another outstanding story. I would really like to see more to this town and it's people.

What a fabulous end to this series. I love Kelly, and even though I loved all the Silverthorne siblings and their stories, I think this one was my favorite. I will admit to tears in a couple places, and I completely ignored everything I was supposed to do to read this book instead.

I didn't like this one as much as the last. For me, the emotional upheaval didn't quite ring true and I felt the plot line with the brother was rather hastily done and thus the payoff at the end wasn't as satisfying.

Candis's books are so fun and uplifting. You'll love the main characters just as you do in the other two books of this series, but, really, the one who steals the show is Mom. Who wouldn't fall in love with a wise ghost? For a fun weekend read, the Sugar Shack series is an excellent pick!

A perfect ending to a great trilogy! I love this whole series! This final installment was bittersweet for me. I was glad to see Kelly get her happy ending but I love this family and I hate to see them go!
A wonderful story with a hot alpha hero! What more could ya ask for?
