Average or less.

A comic based on “Mirror's Edge”.

The game is awesome and one of the best I’ve ever played. Beautiful plot and setting. This comic is average and forgettable. Not even close.

I remember getting the Mirror's Edge video game when it first came out and I really enjoyed playing it. I remember thinking it interesting how compelling the overall world building was, especially for a game that was mostly designed to do parkour through a city. The world is built around the rise of a corrupt and dystopian city of the future where there's an uneasy tension between the groups of people that decide to participate and those who try to "live off grid". Naturally, the majority of people are engaging with the city and playing along to the corporate whims in order to make a living. The other option is to live off the corporate tracks and risk living in total poverty. In this game you play as a runner named Faith, she makes her way in the world delivering messages off the corporate networks.

It was interesting to see this get a comic book, I actually wasn't expecting that, because I didn't think this world was going to be developed much beyond the game. I didn't go in with any expectations really, but this comic series serves as a prequel to the video game. I must say Pratchett gave us a great story. In this we see some of Faith's early work with Caleb and delve into a bit more background involving her family. The story had a great blend of the games ideas in that it had a certain degree of mystery and it was just as action packed.

I thought the art was only okay. It was a bit too weirdly blocky, it did kind of fit the overall aesthetic of the game, but I think having a more realistic look would have been more in line with the game. It didn't take away from the great story, just wasn't really my thing, I guess.

In the end, if you were a fan of the first Mirror's Edge game, then you will really enjoy this story delving into Faith's background even more. I'm reading this series well after it came out, so I know Pratchett never put her pen to paper for more in this world, which is disappointing, because after reading this I really did wish there had been more.

I was gonna give it at least 3 stars, but it lost a point because of the boring dumb ending.

Not even close to being as good as the game.

It's nice to see a better Faith story than the one found in the brilliantly promising but sadly flawed game. Rhianna Pratchett herself said that this story was closer to the vision she had for the character, but being a hired gun on the game she didn't really have the influence or respect she probably deserved on the development.
So we get a warmer Faith, see her origins and her family, her training and it all just fits nicely together. The pacing is great up to the final chapter which feels very rushed - perhaps a 7 parter squished into 6 parts. So there's no great sense of resolution to be had, but the journey is great and the artwork captures the kinetics of the game, whilst telling the story with an easy flow.

This was way better than I thought it was going to be. I read it in one sitting something I wasn’t expecting. It’s a good prequel to the first Mirror’s edge videogame but it doesn’t explain much. We get a bit of Faith’s origin story and how she met Mercury.

The Mirror's Edge comic is...just fine. It's been ages since I played the game, so I don't remember exactly how well it ties in, but I remember the story of the game was not exactly the highlight. It's actually a bit better in comic book form, since you don't get the feeling of cutscenes disrupting the fast and fluid pace of the gameplay. Basically just a generic near-future surveillance state story with shadowy corporations and those who resist them. But perhaps thanks to the involvement of the game's writer, Rhianna Pratchett, the voices of the characters are captured well (I could practically hear the voice of Merc, your mentor in the game, jump off the page even though I hadn't heard it in years). You get a bit of backstory on main character Faith, which adds some nice new perspective to the game as well.

The only thing more outright negative than just middling is that the art doesn't seem to capture motion very well. It's quite striking sometimes (something about the paper it's printed on in my copy seems different from normal comics?), but whenever characters are actually free-running you don't get a sense of speed at all. In that way, the comic might actually be a good companion for the game -- the comic tells a story and struggles during the action, and the game is great, fast, fluid action that struggles to tell a story.

If you really want a throwback to the original Mirror's Edge, this is just about the only thing other than the game available to you, and it's not bad by any means. Just be forewarned that Mirror's Edge: Catalyst and the tie-in Exordium comic (which is much worse than this comic, for what it's worth) reboot the series. So if you're coming from that universe what you read here will not apply.

While it was good to find our a bit of backstory about Faith, I must say, the game feels like it has more story in it.
The art style doesn't really translate between the two mediums either.

Nothing too spectacular, but still a lot better than I expected. Left me wanting to read more. It was really nice seeing Faith’s backstory.

This is a graphic novel based on the video game of the same name. The heroine is Faith who is a 'runner' in a futuristic city. The city is controlled by a Big Brother-ish government, but some people live outside the controls. These people communicate via runners, who courier goods and messages via the rooftops of the city. They don't just run - they leap, jump, somersault and climb as they navigate the rooftops. (This is the core of the game.)

The book gives us some backstory as to who Faith is and why she is a runner. It's not big on plot or dialog, and the artwork wasn't quite my style. Still, it was interesting enough that when I find the sequel I will get it!

Decent read. I love the settings and characters of the game, so I was expecting a lot from this collection of six comics, but while there was some worthwhile fleshing out, it just didn't go far enough for me. While it doesn't quite reach the high standards I'd set before jumping in, it's definitely recommended for anyone else who calls Mirror's Edge one of their favorite games. A shame there aren't any more of these to read...

You have to realize that taking the amount of speed and motion in the game and applying it to a comic setting is asking a lot. I think the book did its best in trying to capture some of that while also bringing in some of the backstory. Unfortunately, it just doesnt have anything on the game. Decent read, but not anything spectacular.

Al borde del espejo, una autora que no puede escapar de la sombra de su apellido se anima a adaptar al lenguaje comic uno de los universos virtuales que tan bien construye cotidianamente. Para fans y neófitos por igual.
