My mother always says: “ even if you were taking a kindergarten exam, without reading its book you won't pass, as you don’t know the rabbit’s color in the main story”. It’s exaggerated I know, but somehow I believe in this too, subconsciously you can say. And maybe that’s why when it comes to exams, I’m always that hesitant, reluctant and procrastinator person to the degree that makes me neither took IELTS nor TOEFL until now, let alone lots and lots of available useful courses. But lately, I brought a baby walker for my daughter and I love to follow her from room to room to ensure she won't hurt herself. Probably this situation indirectly encouraged me to start reading this series as long as it doesn't need full mental or emotional engrossment. So slowly but surely I’m trying to find out the rabbit’s color.

This book will prepare you for the IELTS Academic Reading test. It’s divided into 12 units, each one of the first 11 units covers a certain topic that you may find in the exam, especially subjects like: job-market, education, sciences and different cultures. The unit itself is divided into 3 parts. The first one is the easiest, concerned about vocabulary exercises. The second is the longest, giving a lot of information which designed in short texts and different types of questions. But I think the third part is the most important one because it simulates the exam task, giving you the chance to put the skills that you have learnt by the previous parts into practice. Moreover, the whole of the 12th unit will give you this opportunity again, yet in a complete form of exam.

My brother stayed away from such test preparation books, lest the boredom, yet he achieved a high band score in both IELTS and TOEFL. And yes It’s boring indeed, but sometimes when you don’t expect enjoyment, you enjoy more. I experienced this fact, each time I read a passage about social debates, discoveries’ motives, or one of a real inspirational people such as Jane Godall or Sanjay Patel.

Unfortunately, you can apply the same previous fact about enjoyment on frustration as well. Like what happened to me when I spent several hours reading the same simple text over and over again to fill the blanks of a related complicated diagram describing the depth, width, and the distance between the branches and chambers of a volcano named “Eyjafjallajkull”!!. Not to mention another silly question that asked you to “unscramble the anagrams” to be words related to employment and finance topic. Then they expect me to know easily that “ginshandcremi” should be “merchandising” or “youcanclstn” is actually “consultancy”!! The first disaster located on the page 59, while the other one on the page 62. I told so, as a simple contribution to decrease the damned negative effect of unexpectation.

Away from the exam, I discovered recently that any book contains questions and answers leaves you with a really superb mood. So, from time to time, try to give some food for your inner undying child.

The book is good in general, but the way of solving questions is different from one to another. However, there are many examples in the book so you know all the patterns and types of questions that may come in the exam, but at the end, you have to develop your own style in answering each type.
In my opinion, solving more exam samples is better than reading such books.

I still have to brush up on reviewing my answers, but at least I'm able to read through the passages with some time left for reviewing. I aim to do better in the actual exam.

This is a great reviewer.
