None can see like the Blind…
Ryan Lorimar and Jessica Werner have a special gift: they can see ‘fallen angel’ apparitions within other people. But as the fallen angels in turn know that they’ve been ‘viewed’, it’s a gift that will get him killed. They need protection. They need to enter ‘Blind School’.
Their only hope is Ellis Kendell and his team of agents. Day in, day out, Kendell’s team trawl through street-cam images from across the nation to pick up that tell-tale eye light-refraction of ‘viewers’. Can Kendell’s team get to the viewers before the fallen angels and get them to safety in ‘Blind School’? But there’s also an added agenda: Kendell’s department want the ‘viewers’ help in tracking down more ‘fallen angels’.
Yet is Kendell deluding himself? Setting this small group of teens against a legion fifty-times their number of the most cunning and vicious murderers and criminal masterminds the nation has to offer – is he simply throwing them to the wolves? Fated to watch them one-by-one die. The odds are against them.
Blindsided (JM Myster-thriller by John Matthews Blindsided was a fast fun read with a twist after almost every second corner in in the twitch of an eye. Most of all this book was cleverly written and I had a good time reading it. What more can you ask of a book?
'Blind School' literally explodes into action with a shock event. Within pages, schoolboy Ryan sees a swirling apparition in a girl set upon this evil intent. Such swirling entities are 'fallen angels,' half-angel but half-demon, and seemingly terrible to behold. Fallen angels - of which there are hundreds of different kinds, of varying levels of malevolence - take possession of their human hosts, causing mischief to downright malice.
The villain, Lyle, is a vile and sickening man, committing the worst of sins and making reality of most people's worst nightmare. Matthews brings an element of horror to the story in Lyle and his chilling cherry tree orchard, where he buries young girls alive. Matthews' characters are believable and realistic. Ellis Kendell, head of secret operations to hunt down and 'contain' the apparitions, is a driven and focused man, but also jaded by his inability to win each fight. Lusting teenager Ryan is overcome by fury when his girlfriend is threatened. Jessica, said girlfriend, is strong and capable, showing spirited defiance when all seems lost.
The only time my suspension of disbelief failed me was in the fact that dozens of teens were suddenly developing hemeralopia and going about in identical sunglasses, although some Internet research assured me that wearing them does in fact help manage the condition. The book's demonology is detailed, and cleverly presented to the reader via the School teachings, as to be totally believable.
'Blind School' is a great fast-paced easy read, with flowing narrative and concise description. It will also make you think - I kind of wished it was fact, not fiction, and that Matthews' fallen angels could be blamed for the human monstrosities in our world. This book is listed as YA, (an age group I no longer fit into!) but I nevertheless really enjoyed this book

Tracy seemed like your average teenager, loved to listen to loud music alone in her room, etc. until one day she took her father’s rifle and killed him, then proceeded to go to a local coffee shop and started shooting more people. The odd thing was the someone was able to see an apparition surrounding her.
When Ellis Kendell from the FBI talked to some of the people in the coffee shop, only Ryan told him about the apparition. Ryan’s friends all thought he was crazy, but Ellis knew better.
Ryan is not the only teenager who can see these special images, these fallen angels, and Ellis knows it. Ellis takes Ryan and other teens to a special place, called “Blind School” where they are told they now need to wear special sunglasses all the time, and can never tell anyone about their special gift, not even their family.
These fallen angels are no longer good, and there are so many of them out there. They shoot, they destroy, they kidnap, they kill. Only these special teens can help to stop them.
Definitely a worthwhile read if you like mystery, suspense, thrills and the good vs. evil plot. Although it is a Young Adult book, anyone can read it.
Blind School by John Matthews is a story about young adults who have a special gift in seeing fallen angels within people. Once the fallen know they are being seen, they can harm. There's a special task force assigned to deal with these fallen angels and teach the gifted young adults how to protect themselves. It's a classic good vs. evil tale. Who will win?
I like the story. It skipped around a lot, which made me a bit confused at times. The writing is very to the point. I would have liked to have more. The story is on the short side, so I would have liked it be part one of a series that way I could have gotten to know the characters a little more, slowed the pace down, and let the action explode like fire crackers. I like to read a novel like a good meal, and savor it.
The reviews are pretty varied. I wouldn't say it's a bad story. The plot is intriguing. The story held my interest. I think it's worth a read. I just have a few suggestions. I would consider reading other works by this author.
I'd give this a 3.5 rating. The concept was different. Without giving too much of the plot away, it's about a group of teenagers attending a blind school that's a front for a training and protection centre for those who can "see" the demon or fallen angels as and when they inhibit a particular person. I enjoyed the setting though angels and demons are not usually my thing. The writing was good, the story progressed on a brisk pace and I could relate to the two gifted teenagers. The basic story revolves around them and the price their kind pays for helping in preventing vicious acts of violence being committed. There are well etched supporting characters as well as the "human" antagonists. I just didn't feel enough of the fear and foreboding towards the end. All in well, an interesting read without being preachy unlike some other fantasy/paranormal novels based on religious symbols and beliefs .
I really enjoyed this book, the premise was good and it delves into the supernatural which I love. It has some history on religion and the students that can see fallen angels. The journey of the main characters leaves you hoping they do not fail in their mission. Awesome book and an easy read. Recommend for a quick read as it only took me a couple days to read it.
Liked story and especially the idea behind the whole book, I think that it was really good, but that it has a lot of charaters. I think that it could have been broken down even so that it was easier to follow, since you were reading about more that one character and that way would have been longer and less confusing for reader. Still a great book though, just have to pay attention to charcters.
