It’s summertime in Sunnyview and Captain Awesome is headed to the pool in this all-new Captain Awesome adventure! It’s summertime in Sunnyview and Eugene McGillicudy is off to the pool for swimming lessons. It doesn’t take long for Eugene's superhero alter ego, Captain Awesome, to find a list of reasons why he must defend his swimming class from a cast of comical “bad guys.” MI TEE! While Captain Awesome is busy saving the Sunnyview pool along with Nacho Cheese Man and sidekick Turbo, will he find time to tackle a dive into the deep end before summer ends? With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Captain Awesome chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.
When Stan Kirby was 6-years-old, he tied a beach towel around his neck and became Super Commander Beach Boy. He tried his best to protect sand castles from the waves, keep seagulls away from his French fries, and keep the beach clean.
When Stan's not creating the awesome adventures of Captain Awesome, he loves reading comic books, eating okra, and hang-gliding (but not at the same time).
Captain Awesome has to face his fear of the deep end of the swimming pool over summer vacation.
I get why these are so popular, but I felt like the chapters ended too abruptly, then would move in to something else with no real conclusion. Also all the girl cootie stuff.
My son is OBSESSED. As an adult reading these aloud I find the chapters a bit disjointed and almost as if they're individual short stories, but it usually loops around. Either way, my 5 year old loves the pictures and the characters. He tells me he would like to give this book 101 stars.
Captain Awesome is excited for summer and the adventures he will have with Nacho Cheese Man as they rescue others and save the day at the Sunnyview swimming pool. He must face his own fears of diving into the deep end while defending his classmates from the Blobby Blob-Blob. Will he be able to do it, or will he panic like a Jelly Squirrel? This book is full of black and white picture animations and large print for readers who are advancing to chapter books.
This series continues to impress me. A first chapter book aimed at 5-7 year olds it is suitable for that age group and both advanced youngsters and reluctant older readers as the age or grade of the children is hardly, if ever, mentioned. My son has outgrown this series now, but being learning challenged he did read it up to 12yo and enjoyed it. I read this one on my own and like the others found it to be extremely fast paced. Each chapter is exciting, the comedy is humorous, a value is learned (specifically here to face your fears) and as usual George O'Connor is a splendid cartoonist. The books are formulaic and contain the same characters which brings familiarity which is needed at this level of reading. A new character appears for this book. A fun-loving teenage life-saver/swim teacher who says "dude" all the time. Love him! Fun series aimed at boys.
Didn't enjoy this one as much. I'm sure that kids will, but it just felt like a million other books I had read. Plus I felt like I just read the same plot in "Squish" and it was better there. But I still feel like this is a cute and well-done early reader series.
Who hasn't felt the terror of the Blobby Blob-Blob at the bottom of the pool? Thankfully for the people of Sunnyview, Captain Awesome and Nacho Cheese Man are on the case, ready to face evil to make things safe again. Another solid installment in the series.
I am a fan of this early reader series because my 6-year-old son loves them. These are the first chapter books he wants to read. As a parent I don't love that vegetables are bad guys, but my son finds this quite amusing.
Didn't entirely like how almost each chapter had an awesome event happening, but then bam, it was over before we could find out anything. Like the author forgot to write the ending for each chapter. I am really curious about Sally, hopefully we will find out about her more soon.
I loved this book because it had funny characters and he thought every single person was a bad guy and guess what? he even called his little sister Miss Stinky Pants.
Not my favorite in the series, but my stepson loved it. All of the Captain Awesome books are fun to read aloud, and I love an excuse to use my superhero reading voice.
my faveret character was captain awesome I was surprised when the pack of superhero eating electric sharks came I like the ending no, cus it fit the story well
