This was a more balanced and effective book than I thought it would be. It is not framed within the conventional self help package - thankfully - but offer some strong commentary and strategies to manage 'toxic' workplaces, 'difficult' co-workers, and 'nasty' bosses.
I am impressed. I am aware when all of us are in the middle of a nightmare situation in a workplace that it may seem like the end of the world - that we are trapped and there is no way out. As we live our working lives, we know that these dreadful situations do end. This book truncates the time it takes to manage what seems to be unmanageable.
I read this book during a pretty rough time at work. I wasn't sure what the messages I was getting at work meant or where things were going. I wasn't sure whether it was the culture, the organisation management or myself that was contributing to the situation. This book gave me some perspective and helped me through some bloody awkward conversations that I'd previously have walked away from or blown up during.
