Here's a book that's also a guessing game! Turn the page for your first "I have a huge mane." Open the flap and you'll see "I can roar." Open one more, and you'll see the answer to the "It's a lion!" In this colorful book of safari animals, the award-winning art of Simms Taback becomes a fun, interactive guessing game.
Simms Taback was an American writer, graphic artist, and illustrator of more than 35 books. He won the 2000 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration, recognizing Joseph Had a Little Overcoat, and was a runner-up in 1998 for There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.
Fun fold out pages and clues for the kids to guess which animal. Big, bright illustrations make this great for toddler story time. Preschoolers would probably enjoy it, too.
Forgot to grab a book before Movement storytime. Again! So I hurried into the children's closet and grabbed this from our storytime collection. First time reading it was in front of the crowd. I missed the extra clue given as you fold out the pages. Oops. Oh well--the kids were already getting them before I even finished reading the regular pages. They very much enjoyed.
8/13/18 Used this in movement again. They loved it.
Safari Animals is such a delightful book to read. This giant fold-out book gives its readers a BIG look at animals in the safari through questioning. Safari Animals is not only filled with large, fun illustrations, but is also an ideal mentor text for questioning and inferencing for young students. Such a fun book for primary-ages students!
I used this story as a participation story for a safari-inspired bilingual story time program. The colorful pictures make it easy for children to identify the animals they are supposed to guess, and the fold-out nature of this book is not bad for a story time setting like others tend to be. It was also a good book to use to focus on building vocabulary (unfamiliar animals).
So Cool! Each page is split into quarters which unfold to make a big picture of an animal. Kids see a part of the overall picture revealed more & more as it unfolds, while they are given clues as to what the animal is. Perfect for storytimes!
Great, sturdy fold out book with four flaps, each flap providing a new clue as to which animal is pictured. Great bright, bold drawings and large size (unfolded) makes a good storytime option for preschool and some toddler groups.
These books are so great. The fold-out pages are fun and colorful. The older kids were able to guess most of the animals, and the babies liked looking at the big pictures. I like this one more than City Animals, but that one's great too.
I normally don't like books with fold out pages but I thought these were sturdy and it makes sense in which order to fold them. Big pictures kids will love and a nice simple guessing format. Ages 2+
