Ah, but I do love Momoko Tenzen's manga. This is a really lovely story about two coworkers who end up falling in love. It's nothing special, really - there are certainly enough similar manga - but the way it's written is just perfect when you want a nice m/m romance. In all honesty, the men cry a litte too much for my sake, but they're not what I'd call "typical uke tears", so I didn't mind it too much.
It comes with a whirlwind of emotions that puts the reader in an existential crisis. I rooted so hard for these characters and wanted a happy ending. I'm so glad I picked this one up.
I like this and loved how they didn't progress into the relationship immediately. But idk something was missing? The chemistry felt very one-sided. I would've definitely enjoyed it more if Mizuki spent more time figuring out his feelings for Asada. But, overall a nice read.
Favorite Momoko Tenzen title! Touching, convincing read about two co-workers falling for each other. It's refreshing to read BL where the seme/uke tropes aren't prevalent.
This is definitely a middle of the road book. Sweet, but nothing really exceptional. It also has that older yaoi style with the kind of weird mouths and all - which I don't mind, but it's interesting that there are a lot of artists in this genre whose art is...kind of difficult to tell apart. With some of my favorites, I can tell at a glance from even the cover art who created it, and that kind of "stamp" of character does make a difference.
The one thing I did find interesting in this story is that Mizuki is openly gay, even at work, and wholly devoted to a guy he's loved for years - who doesn't love him back. Their relationship is built on friendship and mutual respect and only turned into something romantic when the guy Mizuki loves lost the man he loved. They fell together while mourning that loss, and Mizuki's love held Yoshino together for much longer than it should have.
Yoshino ending things with Mizuki actually does feel like a selfless act, which is odd and refreshing for a breakup. He cares about Mizuki but never loved him in the way Mizuki loved him, so it wasn't fair to keep things going. That's an interesting story, and there's a lot of raw emotion and heartache that's effectively shown.
The problem is that the Mizuki/Asada relationship is turning out very much the same, which Mizuki even points out. Asada (who'd always considered himself straight - Mizuki and Yoshino are both gay) falls for the beautiful, put-together man at his office, who turns out to have a lot more weaknesses and vulnerabilities than anyone would've expected. Mizuki enjoys his friendship but rejects anything more...but eventually decides that he does care about Asada and that he'll give their relationship a try.
I like their dynamic and do think they have potential, but this probably needed to be a longer series to actually delve into and resolve any of the real issues they'd be facing. This is a nice story that has some thoughtful topics but mostly skates along the surface. Not bad but it had potential to be better.
[rating = B] For an older Yaoi manga, this was pretty good. I liked the idea of a "flutter" in the heart and of connecting with someone. This is a story about two office workers who work together and get attached. Of course, this is the drama of finding out that they like each other and accepting that, but it's all well done and entertaining. The story is rather straightforward, moving along in a fashion that suggests an easy read. The emotions and feelings expressed by the characters are wonderfully genuine and show how men can come to terms with their feelings in a healthier way.
This was much sweeter that I was expecting. I love a cute office romance so much and that's what this was. Cute office romance with a bit of a serious tone. I really liked it. I'm pleasantly surprised.
This ended up being a lot better then I thought, much more deeper then most yaoi out there. This had a lot of angst between the two main characters Asada and Mizuki. Asada had always been attracted to Mizuki ever since he saw him walking down the street on his way to work. He was delighted to find out that they work in the same building, but that's all he knows of the handsome stranger.
Much to his luck, Asada finds out he's working on a new project with Mizuki. He's beyond happy that they get to spend time together and he can learn more about his crush. Much to Asada's confusion/surprise Asada finds out that Mizuki is gay. He finds it a bit off putting at first, it feels like he doesn't know what to do with the information.
They continue to hang out, getting to know each other, Mizuki begins to open up to Asada, much to his dislike. Mizuki doesn't want to show anyone his weaknesses let alone Asada, who he's become quite fond of. They rely on each other more then they let on. But Mizuki really doesn't want to get to close to Asada, despite Asada really wanting to be close to Mizuki.
They go through the heart breaking pas of Mizuki, which was actually really sad. But they come out on the other side stronger then before.
I really enjoyed this couple. It wasn't like most other yaoi couples out there were there was no basis for the relationship. These characters and their relationship grew and evolved. It went from Asada staring longingly at Mizuki in the street to working with him and becoming friends, to finally becoming something so much more. I wish more yaoi were like this, it's a breath of fresh air.
Your typical yaoi where plot takes a backseat to the aspects of the relationship. It does differ in that the lines between seme and uke are blurred. This equality creates a more natural feel between the two characters, which fits with the fact that they are both of a similar age. The illustrations are clean, and full of subtle expressions, but the text is not the same, often feeling rushed (it is unclear whether this is the fault of the original or the translation). If you do not know what yaoi is, do not read this before finding out and deciding if you find it appropriate, for those that are interested this is not a bad example of the genre, its physical aspects are light in comparison to many, if not for the context, it would be shounen ai, making it a good introduction for the curious. The mature content may be minimal, but this is still recommended only for older teens, and adults.
I liked this way more than I thought I would! I really dug the art style, I like the semi-realistic not too stylized approach to drawing people. Which describes Tenzen's characterization fairly well too, Asada and Mizuki actually felt kind of like real people! Mizuki especially appealed to me, the way he deliberately tested Asada and was like 'hey, you know I'm not a nice guy right? I've been dragging you all over town, why aren't you annoyed with me?' I like flawed characters who are aware of their flaws. Also no annoying seme/uke dynamics which was really nice. :) 3 stars
I adore workplace BL manga. It's just one of those sub-genres that ends up being an insta-read for me when I see it. Now, they are not all great - but if they wrote half as good as Momoko Tenzen, they would be. I'm a great fan of her title The Paradise On The Hill and I'm incredibly pleased to see that Flutter is equally great. Her handle on co-worker relationships and romantic dynamics is something for fans of atypical BL to truly love.
Another M/M yaoi Manga comic with a workingmen plot with some gay-for-you themes. There is very little plot to these Manga stories, but the comics are well drawn and I love all the crazy sound effects that are still in the kana on the page which makes me laugh. I'm not getting into this Manga format, but I may give it another try on my next vacation, but once again, it takes too much space on our bookshelf so I may have to sell it. 200 pages 2 stars
I really enjoyed this book, I found it very interesting. Although I did get a little confused at times with the dialogue, I'm not sure if that was me but I felt like I was missing pages and kept getting lost. But overall the plot was very cute and enticing and the I enjoyed the two protagonists personalities and their relationship.
More of a shounen ai than smexy yaoi. It's a cute story with sweet and charming characters. The seme in uke clothing is adorable. I think the characters worked well here. There's not much room for a spin off with other characters. I guess that's not the writer's intention.
The story was a light romance with some drama to keep it real.
Picked this randomly in the e-library. Was an enjoyable read but I didn't think Asada's character was built up enough. We don't really know much about him. I knew to expect M/M but it seemed forced between these two characters.
