A little pony sparkling with magic. But his big wish is for a special friend! And so Eleanor's lonely school holiday suddenly looks like it might gallop by when playful New Forest pony Comet appears in her life.
Sue was born in Northampton where she still lives. For many years she worked for Northamptonshire libraries and remains a passionate supporter of Public Libraries. Sue loves everything about books, the feel of them, their smell. the way they look. And has a habit of matching a bookmark to the cover of each book she's reading. The process of reading, the feel of the book, carrying it around in her shoulder bag, sitting in favourite cafes reading all make for a complete sensory experience. Browsing bookshops old and new, talking all things bookish with other book lovers, spending time with other writers and meeting with fans of her own books at author events are her favourite things. That and eating good quality dark chocolate, while writing.
This is one of those books that I had to read just to see how the formula played out.
In all of these magic animal books you have an animal who is royalty from another realm. A wolf for example, who then becomes a dog in our world to carry out a quest. It's a fairly clever concept, but tricky because the stories have always involved a stray animal showing up in our world and being found by a human girl who then had adventures with that animal and then shared in that animal's quest.
So I was expecting a unicorn, but got a winged horse which is way cooler. I would definitely want one with that particular trait. :) And we even found a place where an unknown pony wasn't even looked at oddly - which was rather clever to set the tale in England and in a setting where ponies tend to run wild. The quest was a little different - not so much a running from danger as the previous books in other series has done - but more of a running TOWARD - looking for a lost sister.
The whole adventure was fun, and for those pony loving girls who are just tackling chapter books, this is the perfect story to give them. I passed this along to my daughter and will be looking for the rest of the books in the series.
Fun story. Loved the fantasy aspect. Well written and entertaining. Great intro to fantasy for kids. In my grown up opinion, I like this series better than the other magic series by Sue. Zoey also enjoyed this. But you know, ponies.
I like it because it was about pony’s. But it was about a girl who loved pony’s but she had to tell lies to her aunt and I don’t like that. The pony’s sounded really cute though, and I like pony’s.
This book was a trip..... though it wasn't necessarily an exciting one. It's magical and fun for the horse enthusiast, but the plot has a few holes in it. Who are the dark horses? We never got to reunite with Destiny. Frankie and Aunt Pippa are bound to talk *eventually* so their will be some problems even though they seem to be nicely forgotten at the moment.
I liked this book, and I would recommend it for younger readers. It's fast paced and not too detailed. Over all it isn't a *bad* book, though some readers prefer a bit more substance.
A cute magical book. My six year old niece is reading this series and wanted to share her book with me. So I read it and now she wants me to pass it on so someone else can enjoy it. I thought it was a fun book with good characters. Will be fun to watch them grow.
Magical ponies. Summer at aunt's cottage. Making friends.
Story: Eleanor's parents are going off on a tour in their job as orchestra members. That leaves Eleanor to spend a few weeks with her aunt at her cottage. Eleanor doesn't mind though, as the forest behind her cottage is filled with semi-wild ponies! When Aunt Pippa goes off to run errands, Eleanor discovers there are more than just ponies in the forest when a magical ponies appears in a midst of sparkles and rainbows and asks for her help!
Characters: Eleanor is a ten year old girl obsessed with ponies and riding. Aunt Pippa is a photographer busy trying to prepare for an exhibition, leaving Eleanor plenty of time to spend with her secret magic pony. Comet of the Lightning Horses is a magical pony looking for his sister pony, Destiny.
Language: This is a short chapter book with large font and spacing between words. Pleasant pencil drawings appear now and then with cartooney (in a positive way) shaped ponies. The language is simple and easy to follow with not a lot of riding or horse jargon. An easily accessible book for pony fans or magical animal fans.
Magic ponies -#1 was pretty good. Simple yet effective. This was a father/daughter read, but the daughter bailed halfway through. So, I finished because I had to know what happened to Comet! It was a fairly satisfying ending, but there could definitely be more to the story. Maybe there is in the follow ups, but I suspect the Levine’s will not be reading anymore Magic Pony books (I know I won’t).
Just reread a new friend by Sue Bentley! It definitely reminds me of childhood times when I used to love this series! Despite the fact that it isn´t really for me age, I still like the touch of magic in the series and the way we learn about Comets journey in finding Destiny. When I was little, I always dreamed of talking horses like Comet and this really was my favorite series.
My daughter found this book at the library and had to get it. She loved it, so I had to read it. It is probably one of my favorite young reader books I have read in a long time! Our family has and loves horses, so this was definitely a hit for us. I would highly recommend this book. My daughter and I are looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
My favorite part was when Comet found a trace of destiny. Comet is a pony, a very special pony. He has powers and he is also a pegasus!! I also really liked when Comet chose a really wonderful kid as a friend and they made friends with another kid and another pony named Frankie and Jade!
My daughter (8) read this to me. It was a sweet story. Reminded me of man from snowy rover with all the horses. But she did need to do a lot of lying to the grown up. And where I get that, I also don’t think it’s wonderful. But everything else in the story was great.
It was a very cute story about a young girl named Eleanor who stayed with her aunt. And ran into a magical pony that found her at the beginning of the story when she was sad that she probably would not be able to ride any of her aunt's horses. Definitely going to be reading the rest of the series.

Ich fand's eher langweilig beim Vorlesen, aber meine Tochter Lilli war ganz begeistert. Es gibt noch mehr Bücher aus dieser Reihe, ich werde sie wohl alle vorlesen müssen :-D
I liked it a lot. I liked the magical ponies in it. I was surprised when she got to meet the magical pony, and when he showed her he was really magic. I want to read the next one.
This book is about a girl named Eleanor and a pony named Comet. Eleanor was worried that her summer vacation was going to be boring and lonely because she was staying at her aunts house while her parents went away. When she meets Comet things start looking up for Eleanor because she wasn't lonely and that her summer wasn't ruined anymore. Eleanor and Comet go on lots of adventures together and make new friends.
I like the book even though the book is meant for little kids. The words are simple to read and understand and it has a good message to kids about helping others and making new friends.
Natalie: I loved it! And I want to read it some other time. it was such a good book. I really liked it. And the pictures were nice and they would look prettier with colors. My favorite part was when he turned into a toy. That was kinda cute.
