Sin for Me

Rate this book
I went to a sex club to lose my virginity, but all I got was the attention of a man I should’ve stayed far away from.

Nicholas is dark, dangerous, and charming. When he fails to sweep me off my feet, he finds another way to claim me. Now, locked away in his secluded mansion, I either give him what he wants or risk facing his wrath.

This is a dark game, and if I’m not careful I could end up dead—if I don’t lose my soul to him first.

Well shit. The wildest thing happened to me. I had the audio downloaded from the library and I returned it when I finished. I went back to check it out again because I had forgotten to write down a quote and the whole book is GONE! Seriously dude. Anyway – I can’t give any of the good quotes. Ugh. I will say I really enjoyed the story, it just lacked good sex. This is probably a 3, but I'm giving it a 4. If they added good sex, it'd have been an easy 5.

Nicholas (35, hitman) is at club Purgatory (sex club) to collect payment from Lucian Black after completing a hit for him. While normal people are interested in all the sex taking place at the club, Nicholas isn’t. That’s because he has a very specific kink…. He only wants a virgin, and then after he fucks them, he has to kill them because they’re no longer pure.

Mara (21-ish, virgin, college student) was encouraged to attend a sex club with her roommate in a bid to lose her V-card. When a sexy stranger seduces her into a private room, she feels like this is the guy she should give it up for, but before they can go further than a kiss and pet, Mara gets cold feet and takes off.

When Nicholas sees his little virgin run, he just knows she’s meant to be his. He gets a little frustrated when Mara is resistant to his methods. After all, he’s just trying to keep her safe!!!

Several battles take place as Nicholas fights his demons, and eventually there’s an HEA.

SEX: Sadly, it doesn’t happen until the 90%-ish mark. It was soooo frustrating. There’s a mutual masturbation at 25%, a dubcon/noncon BJ at 69%, and a dubcon/noncon anal at around 80%. If there had been sex, I probably would have given this 5 stars. C. Hallman and J.L. Beck are pretty consistent in writing bad sex scenes so I’m really not surprised.

DEMONS: Nicholas is the way he is because of abuse he suffered as a child. It’s actually a good story.

TRIGGERS: Obviously the noncon is going to be triggering for some. Personally, that was a bonus for me. LOL. Just FYI, he had never taken anyone that way before Mara and both times with Mara could be categorized as dubcon.

AUDIO: I’d say read it, but I can’t find it on Kindle or anywhere else. LOL If you do get to listen, it’s not that bad. Mia Sloane is good. Tor Thom is the same as he always is. He has a sexy voice, but he’s not a good actor. So, it’s 50/50 for you.

If you want a good stalker/kidnapper fic, I'd recommend it.

NOTE TO SELF: This is for my eyes only since it tells you what happens in the book. This is all SPOILER. If you plan on reading/listening, please for the love of all that’s sacred, don’t read this. It’s for me because I know down the road I’m going to wonder what this was about since my review is vague.

It's messed up! I don't understand. Really I got to stop getting caught up on, "oh pretty cover art." First Mara wanted to drop off an item. A sliver of flesh that doesn't hold much value. At a smexy club, go figure.

Nick is a tortured soul that wants the world to feel his pain. Might as well make a living doing so. Hitman...Serial Killer...Phsyopath
...Gun Toting...Ra3eist...Control Freak. You name it, he has it.

Am I suppose to be happy for them. Victim to lovers? Stalker and Gifter of first? Puke inducing hearing her repeat, "I shouldn't like this, but do"

A lot of reviews use Stockholm as the reason. Yet Dr. Stockholm was a man that didn't listen. The airline hostages were treated better by the captures. The law enforcement treated them like crap. But he took one rich girl that decided to join the rebel forces as an example. Scare them. Give them treats. Punish them. They are yours.

Please let this be the last one of this kind, to hit my recommendations. Cause this book had me checking on who the author was...repeatedly. Kept wondering if this was a joke. Dude, is this real life?

Besides Killing Stalkings a manga, has a more believable narrative. I thought he would die. But it's kind of what you get. When entering a domicile without permission. #IAWThoughts

Mara is a virgin who walks into the wrong sex club and grabs the attention of the worst possible man she could.
Nicholas's grandma screwed his head up when he was a kid, so now he feels like it's his life's mission to deflower and dispose of as many virgins as possible. He believes them having sex before marriage is sinful and deserving of death. Old GramGram did a number on him.
Anyway, he feels differently about Mara, he doesn't WANT to hurt her. He actually wants to protect her. And the best way to do that, in his unhinged mind, is to kidnap her. To be fair, he DOES break into her apartment to snoop her favorite items (shampoo, make-up, clothing, bed sheets, etc.) so that her stay at his house is as comfortable as possible. But apparently that's not good enough for Miss Mara who is ungrateful and just wants to go home. At least that's how Nicholas feels about it. But the longer Mara is at his house, the more she wants to understand why Nicholas is the way he is. Slowly she unravels the secret, and convinces him he's worthy of love.
Oh yeah, and he's a hitman. That's kind of an important detail. 🤣
I loved Nicholas's internal monologue with his dead GramGram. And his personal development was great. He really had to tackle and choke out quite a few personal demons.
Mara was good. She experienced that typical duality of "I'm afraid but also turned on." Stockholm syndrome is her favorite trope, apparently. She is patient, and while she doesn't have as much room to develop, she is a great representative of the "I can fix him" crowd.
I'd probably recommend this book to friends looking for a dark romance. There were a couple of scenes that were slightly uncomfortable, dealing with SA. Not sure what the posted TWs are, but there wasn't anything that was a deal breaker for me.

Stockholm syndrome extraordinaire.

This is basically what the story boiled down to: a sociopath hit man who’s also a serial killer murders a coworker, kidnaps the girl, imprisons her, strips her of any privacy or freedom of any kind, gaslights her constantly so that he can get his rocks off by beating the ever loving hell out of her, then r@pes her (but of course it doesn’t “count” since he uses the uh, backdoor while ensuring it’s also about as painful as it could be), and she still falls in love with him because he’s been horrifically abused and tortured since childhood. Yes, that’s awful. NO, it’s not an excuse or a literal get out of jail free card.
Yet another book where the man uses the woman as a dumpster for all of his issues and never once takes ownership for his actions, pays any real consequences, or does anything meaningful to grow & change as a person.
Hard pass!

Audiobook was almost unbearable. Characters didn't have clear motives and book had interesting premise but was too short to truly pull it off. Author told you what happened instead of showing it. Couldn't take narrators seriously.

I feel like I shouldn't have even liked this, let alone really enjoyed it. Nicholas was insane, and I just wanted to hug him. This was dark and really hot. I recommend this to all my dark romance counterparts.

The concept is SUPER DARK, which I am here for. The idea behind this book could have been so good. It just felt rushed and not long enough to get drawn into the world. Sometimes it needs to be slowed down and really make us get lost in the world. This was a rushed Stockholm syndrome story that had potential. Not mad at it, just wish there was more detail, more time, more getting to know the characters.

He’s absolutely insane and there’s no way she doesn’t have Stockholm syndrome. It’s definitely dark but I had a hard time finding it romantic at all. He was irredeemable in my eyes. I like morally grey but he was so much worse than that.

Good evening, Darlings of Darkness

I recently completed the audiobook of "Sin for Me" by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman, and I must say it was an enthralling experience. The narrators did an exceptional job of conveying the story, adding depth to the already captivating plot. However, before diving in, I strongly advise checking the trigger warnings for this book, as it explores sensitive themes.

The story revolves around Nicholas and Mara, whose unusual and intense connection takes center stage from the very beginning.

Mara's impulsive decision to visit a sex club to lose her virginity unknowingly coincides with Nicholas's dealings with the club's owner regarding a hit he had just carried out. Nicholas is drawn to a specific type of girl, and as fate would have it, Mara fits the bill. Their paths cross in a bizarre twist of events, leading Nicholas to take a dangerous interest in her, which quickly escalates into stalking.

One fateful night, Nicholas saves Mara from a troublesome customer, employing extreme measures that eventually lead to her kidnapping. Despite the alarming circumstances, he provides her with everything she desires in a secluded cabin in the woods.

The emotional rollercoaster begins as they both grapple with past traumas, particularly Nicholas's religiously inflicted scars. Despite these challenges, he continues working with a person who wants to end a sex trafficking organization. But when a hit leaves a child behind, Nicholas's sense of moral code becomes blurred, echoing the same words he once heard as a child himself.

As the plot unfolds, Nicholas faces a dangerous encounter with those connected to his past hit, and he must navigate through the threat on his life. In the midst of these life-threatening events, Mara reveals her unwavering love for him, refusing to abandon him in his time of need.

Their relationship evolves as they support each other through thick and thin, and during Nicholas's recovery from a gunshot wound, they share a passionate moment that leaves readers gasping for breath.

In a fascinating twist, they revisit the sex club periodically, recreating their initial encounter with a playful twist, all while embracing their love for one another.

"Sin for Me" takes readers on a thrilling journey of love, passion, danger, and healing. The authors delve into complex emotions and challenging pasts, weaving together a story that grips the heart and stirs the soul.

In conclusion, "Sin for Me" is a powerful and spicy tale of love's resilience, embracing life's dark complexities while celebrating the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Embrace the darkness, and let the books be your lanterns.

Definitely one of the strangest books I've ever read. I'm fine with but I just didn't feel like there was enough time to build it in this book. There are other reasons I didn't really like this too much, which are technically spoilers but I'll list them below:

Also, the MMC in the epilogue felt like a completely different person than the guy in the book. Felt like an OOC fanfic. Thought I was going crazy or something.
This book was a nice quick read for me, and I'm sure it would scratch someone's itch for a fast-burn with kidnapping and a crazy MMC, but I really couldn't enjoy it too much without being bogged down by the stuff above.

Rape? Yes. Plot? No.

Wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, including ‘dark’ romance readers. DISCLAIMER: I picked this up for free as part of my audible membership.

The audio book starts off with NO trigger warnings, I do not know if this is the same for the physical copy. This book is short and all it contains ? Rape and a healthy dose of Stockholm syndrome.

No romance, no chemistry, no plot, no consent.

Any character development is done off page? We just get some guy who.. kills people and is messed up, no redemption? He just cums and sees the light or? I feel like this was plotted on a restaurant napkin. A tiny restaurant napkin. And most of it was used to mop up a spill. Both characters can be summed up as ‘has a dick’ and ‘has a vagina.’

Here is where I would list the things I liked about the book.. but I’ve got nothing, so here are some authors I would recommend INSTEAD of this book. Literally anyone.

So our lead male character had a dark past first with his mother being a hooker and then finding her dead in their apartment at 5 years old. But things didn’t get really bad until he moved in with his grandmother afterwards who for years physically, emotionally & verbally abused him being out in his own at 16.

All he knew was what his grandmother beat into him is it any wonder he became a hit man (this part I was completely fine with, it’s the fact that he liked to have sex with virgins then kill & dismembered them)

After becoming infatuated with a young woman at a sex club that he could tell was a virgin he ended up kidnapping her and keeping her captive at his house in the middle of nowhere.

They have their up and downs but she ends up being able to break down his walls and start something real.

The spice was good the story was okay but mental I really wish he didn’t deflower young virgins and then dismember them that’s just going to far!

Nicholas & Mara. This wasn't that long of a book and for the length I didn't think it was bad. Nicholas is an assassin with a traumatic upbringing. After his mother was killed by a "john" he was left with his grandmother who would beat him and degrade him because of his mother's sins. His grandmother dies in a house fire but left behind her beliefs engrained in Nicholas.

He has this kink about wanting untouched women. Touched ones are dirty. Once he has them he unalives them because they are now dirty wh*res.

Mara goes to Purgatory (the club) to finally lose her V card. Nicholas sees her across the club room and instantly becomes obsessed with her. He ends up kidn@pping her and keeping her in his home. We get some stockholm syndrome because she ends up falling for him even though their interactions didn't really give a reason to fall for each other. So most likely she's just attention starved with a low self esteem.

Ok, so hear me out.
Some obvious holes in story, like for example how they never addressed him murdering countless woman after he had sex with them. Or the clarification of what really happened between his grandma and him. Or where all of her friends went. Bit cringe in the beginning and end. -1 star.
Story was OK. Smut was good.
I think going into this I knew the audible version was only 4ish hrs long. I knew there wasn't going to be oodles in detail. I wanted a quick steamy story and that's what I got.
I have also been craving a true morally black MMC and I got one. It's nice to see.
And honestly, deep down. I feel like a romance where you CAN be loved despite your past (no matter how horrific) is something we all kinda want.
Would not reread. Would recommend to the right person.

DNF @ 50% - i could totally finish it (not much left) but i decide not to because this will be a waste of time...

There was no chemistry and I felt like some parts are missing from the story. Hero is supposed to be unhinged being an instant obsessive and possessive of the heroine, even stalked her and captured her. Very similar to Beauty in Lies series by Adelaide Forrest that I just binged but this was done poorly. Again, no chemistry and I was actually feeling disgusted with the things that the hero is doing to the heroine. She clearly doesn't like it but since the authors aren't doing non consent, they throw in "but I'm wet" so the heroine can proceed into claiming she likes in.... poor execution

🌶️🌶️🌶️

I enjoyed this book. It was short, had spice and plot, and kept me interested.

I am really confused though. I listened to this on audible as it was free with my membership. However, when googling to find a list of trigger and content warnings, this book only comes up on Amazon under audible and then on Goodreads.

When you’re in the listing for this audible version and you click on “kindle” or “paperback” it automatically pulls up Hitmen as the option.

Anyone know if this is just an audio or what did I just read? 😂

Anyway, there’s dub/non con in this book and captive/captor, so if you have triggers, I don’t suggest going into this blind.

This one started out strong and then just kind of went flat. Our MMC came out dominant and in charge very much your typical morally gray guy. And our FMC showed him no mercy. Prisoner be damned she was going to get under his skin if it was literally the last thing she did. But with such a strong start i expected it to just gradually get better and that didn't happen. And it also wrapped up a little to fast and i feel like he came around and they resolved things way to quickly for there to be any type of significant character growth it was just all a little to neat. So it's just going to be an ok read for me.

I am a huge fan of everything that J. L. Beck and C. Hallman collaborate on. This one, not so much. I love raw, gritty and dark romances but this one took it to another level. Nicholas is just a tormented man killing people and doing unspeakable things to women, then kidnaps Mara for his own sick and twisted reasons. I know this is fiction but there was nothing believable about a romance between these two. There was nothing redeemable for Nicholas.

I listened to this on audible and I enjoyed the narrators, therefore that is the only reason I gave it two stars.

Not a bad read, it definitely has triggers so don't read if you are not ok with that. I'm surprised it's been rated so poorly. It's basically about a psycho who murders women that have been "used up" because in his mind they are sinful and don't deserve to live but then he meets mara who is a virgin at a club wanting to lose her VCard She's going to be his next victim one he can use and then kill. until she turns him down so he becomes infatuated with her because that's never happened to him before.

I gave this book 5 stars. Nicholas is a paid killer. Also if he sleeps with anyone it has to be a virgin, but he kills her right after for sinning. He meets a girl at the club who is a virgin but she doesn’t go through with it. Makes him like her more so he stalks her. They get to know each other and them being around each other is difficult. I could not put this down but it’s also a short read. I fell in love with the characters. It’s so hard for me to write reviews I don’t want to write too much and give it away. I also want to write enough to make you want to read it!!!

Listened to this on audible 🎧 urmmmm not entirely sure how we’re meant to have sympathy for a man who fucks virgins then kills them just because he has a history of abuse growing up. Also the blatant r*pe… 🤔 just another book about another girl who falls in love with another tormented man (and hitman, no surprise there). Stockhome syndrome at its finest.

However… the actual act of listening to this wasn’t too bad - the narration was good and I was invested in the story and finding out what was going to happen. It was a cliche dark romance but one that I enjoyed listening to.

I've read worse writing, and, of course, the main points of this plot have been done successfully before. Where this book fails is the romance. I can't understand how the female main character falls for the male main character. "Sympathy" isn't a good enough answer for me. Throw the whole man away. (And his grandmother, too.)

Psycho serial unaliver with a V- card kink meets delulu babe that wants to get her cherry popped. Think 50 Shades of Grey but, like, less consent and more Stockholm syndrome.

Is it disturbing? - yes
But is the plot fire?? - No 😅

It was a really fun read, though!

Warning - lots of triggers in this one ⚠️⚠️

This wasn't a love story really, it was brutal, but I loved the story. Sometimes you don't want it to make sense, you just want your mouth hanging open at the end and a thousand questions. Triggers galore, I still think Hell of the same connected series was darker, but it's not for fluffy readers. It was fast dirty and raw.

I had a good time listening to this story. I went in blind and was pleasantly surprised by depth of the story.
We have Nicholas who meets Mara ar a sex club. She wants to lose her virginity, and he wants to punish women who have sex freely (stems from past trauma).
The story is engaging, the narrators were great, and the plot was solid. I really enjoyed it.

Maybe I'll finish some day.
