The writer is pretty much of an airhead. Actually, his discussions of the movies themselves (the nuts-and-bolts aspects) are rather good, but his encapsulations at the beginnings and ends are painfully canned (it gets to where you expect to hear the Entertainment Tonight theme starting up during his last paragraphs). He also sprinkles the proper amount of trendy right-thinking phrases throughout the works. Oh yeah, and his selection of material isn't likely to dazzle you with its vast broad spectrum. Okay, he gives himself an out in the intro by saying that he couldn't get all the permissions that he wanted, thus leaving you at a loss for who is to blame for this circumscribed palette. I didn't actually have the DVD, so I guess I don't know what I was missing there; from previous experience though (and with apologies to Dustin Hoffman), I'd have to say probably not a lot.
One more thing: how could Joe not mention Busby Berkeley's "Lullaby of Broadway" in the Greatest Musical Moments section? Boggles the mind.
