I really enjoy this series because they all take place at resorts in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, one of my favorite places. The characters are likable and realistic. There are references to towns that I am familiar with. This story had some interesting twists and turns. It also had a satisfying ending.

Just so-so. Lots of inconsistencies in the book. Read it because it was set at the Balsams Resort.

The main character, Kary, wasn't very likable, but he was interesting enough to keep me reading. The structure of the book, which jumped around in time quite a bit later in the book (with date and time stamps at the start of each section) was not something I had seen before. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Ultimately the mystery is unravelled and it all fits together in a reasonable way. The background info about The Balsams, a NH grand resort hotel, was the major thing that held this book together. I am interested to see what later novels by Okrant are like. There is definitely promise here.

I thought I would enjoy this book as the Grand Hotels in NH facinate me. However, try as I might, I could not force myself to read past page 100. I could have tolerated the boring story & characters if there had been more interesting descriptions of the hotel itself but alas...I finally decided to give up although it was a struggle because I hate not finishing a book.....

I really enjoyed the book and could relate to some of the characters. It kept your interest until the very end of the book, when you find out what is going on and it all ties up nicely in the end. Can't wait for Book Group when the author comes to hear what he has to say about writing this book!!!
