It was TV shows like THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE OUTER LIMITS that spoiled me with expecting a twist in the stories I enjoy. All three books in this series are dedicated to Rod Serling and the inspiration is very clearly visible throughout.
The first one deals with an infamous photographer who pushes boundaries and, as you would expect from a Beauregard book, has macabre tastes for his art and personal life. But a gift will make him question his own sanity and push him further than anything he has attempted.

Eh snuff film photographer gets karma at the end 🥰🥰
But instead of giving the ending that we actually want where it really tortures him that reflects the horrible things that he did we just got him being the victim of another car crash. (So underwhelming) ✦•······················•✦•······················•✦

The start of Another aron beauregardtrilogyyyyyyyyyyyy (and of course it's short)
Francisco Booth is a photographer that is given an antique picture frame, as a gift from his girlfriend Sophia to put a photo of them as a couple inside of it. Every time he looks at the frame, the picture changes. As we get to know Fransisco better, we learn he has some secrets, some morbid secrets. Is the frame trying to tell him something, is he going crazy, or is he entering another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination? As a lover of things that are morbid, bizarre, or horrifying, I found it nearly impossible to put this book down before I'd read it from cover to cover in 2 short work nights. I have to wonder what motivates a writer. I admire the stretch of his imagination and where he take us as readers. He finds evil in everyday things, which I guess evil can be found anywhere we choose to place it. I’m excited to read about Mia’s journey, which is the next in the series. I highly recommend picking this up once it comes out. It is delightfully deranged and mouththwateringly morbid.
Aron kills it once again! The Morbid Curiosities Collection already promises to be an incredible piece of work that will be great for people who are just starting their extreme horror/splatterpunk journeys! I cannot wait for the next two! The way Aron is always able to pack a punch with his shorter pieces of work will never not amaze me. He’s the GOAT! 🖤
I pre ordered this from the author. Beauregard is an auto buy author for me and I must say this one exceeded my lofty expectations. Aron is known for sick, gross, extreme fiction and for good reason. This one, however, isn’t as “gross” as other efforts. It is however spooky, and gory. This one seems like what if an anthology television show was written by Beauregard. I’m probably describing that one bad, I haven’t slept much lately lol. It’s a shorter work, but I think it tells a really good story in a short book. This one is up there with Modern Hysteria for me, which is my favorite Beauregard novel.
*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.
1. I’ve read and loved quite a bit of Aron’s work, and this series has made it clear that he just keeps getting better and better with each new release.
2. Even though this is a short story, it feels more developed plot-wise than some of his others. I’m all for gory rampage (keep that coming too, Aron!), but sometimes it’s nice for the plot to feel ‘full’ along with the gore. This is descriptive, brutal horror; it plants an idea in your head that festers into something unsettling; it’s not at all a super in-your-face ‘cheap’ thrill. I’m seriously loving this new chapter in Aron’s writing. I noticed it in Playground, too, but this short proves he’s growing so much as an author.
3. This gave me the vibes of a sinister version of the podcast ‘The Antique Shop’ which I adore. That vibe kept going with the other 2 books in the series. This was a perfect start; it really grabbed my attention and made me need to know what was happening. Mia is almost like a sidelined MC. This story has pretty much nothing to do with her until the end – the first 4/5ths of the story follow completely different characters and then she comes in, to be followed into the next 2 installments. It’s kind of meta (is that what the kids are saying these days?). What do I mean by that? Well, it’s almost like holding a crystal ball and watching something play out that doesn’t actually involve you but does directly impact you.
4. Franco is a real piece of work. I can’t say much more about it without spoiling something, but I love how his storyline was set up and revealed. Sophia is one lucky lady.
Masterpiece. Absolutely nothing negative about this short story. Aron Beauregard is getting better and better. It's surreal how good this author is, he could make me read anything.
Aron has done it again! My fiance Spike and I were gifted this copy of Morbid Curiosities at Authorcon II, so I decided it needed to be moved to the top of the TBR pile! (Not yet released, but coming soon I believe...)
Holy s**t, this one starts with a brief introduction to the characters and then BAM, right into the gore and action! I won't look at my camera the same way again, thanks a lot Aron!
Take a ride with Franco, a professional photographer, on his journey with the secrets he holds, especially from his partner Sophia. She has no idea of what the man she is with has hiding in his closet....
Sophia has driven by this Estate, that has been having a sale for the past few weeks and she decides to stop in. She finds a beautiful old frame with an unusual stock photo in it and buys it to give to Franco.
As she leaves for her trip she leaves the frame with photo's of the two of them and tells him to pick one to put in the frame before she gets back....what happens next is everything Franco deserves...
Get your hands on this depraved, gore when it comes out and you won't be disappointed.
Just read this in one evening and really want to read the next parts now. It had me confused every now and again, maybe because the length of this book is not giving much room to go in dept. The placement of illustrations trew me off tho, gave things away before reading that exact part. It was a very quick easy read, let's order part 2 and 3
Aron Beauregard was gracious enough to gift this Arc copy to my fiance and I at AuthorCon 2. The story follows Francisco Booth and the many skeletons in his closet. I felt it read differently than his other work. It was less extreme than im used to in a Beauregard novel. That being said I still absolutely loved it. I'm very excited for the other two books in this series. #booksfromthedoomsaloon
This is the first book of the Morbid Curiosities trilogy. A famous photographer is given a frame with a stock photo that seems to change everytime he looks at it...
This was such a good story and I was hooked all the way through. I was dying to know what would happen next. An excellent start to this trilogy!
Been waiting for the right moment to dig into this preorder I got, and it turns out I had just enough time to burn through it before work this morning.
I am absolutely enthralled with this world. The concept here is so great—the way it takes the innocuous stock photo and makes it monstrous blew me away, and I can’t wait to see where this tale goes next! Aron’s done it again, and I hope there’s a volume of all three later on down the line
This is the first book in a three book series and what a way to start off. Even though a short novella it still delivers on the plot, imagery, and horror. I read it in one sitting, even when you think you might have an idea where its going Aron still manages to twist things up and shock you. I'm going straight to book two.
Well what can I say this was just some awesome old-school storytelling type horror but with gore. To me Aron showed his storytelling chops and kept this just slow and creepy it was so bad ass. This so much reminded me of things like Twilight Zone, Creepshow, Alfred Hitchcock and stuff like that... Its so just creepy weird and psychological. The story grabs ya from the beginning its a tense hazy paranoid ride right till the end and I can't wait to read part 2. I highly highly recommend this just awesome
5☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ Following a series of strange events, Franco thinks he is going crazy. But was he already crazy? Morbid Curiosities is dreadfully good. It was filled with horror and gore. The diner scene had me cringing. I loved Aron's writing style and am looking forward to reading more.
I saw many influences in the first installment of the Morbid Curiosities collection: Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, The Twilight Zone, Supernatural, and Guy DeMaupassant's short story "Was It a Dream?"
Sophia is browsing a yard sale looking for that special item; you know, the one that seems as if it's been patiently waiting for you to claim it, when she sees it--a picture frame that reminds her of her photographer boyfriend Francisco. There's something about its darkness that reminds her of him. Adding to the creepiness is the stock photo that is in the frame--a lone blonde woman with her back to the camera.
Before handing the frame over to Francisco, she makes him swear that he will include a photo of the two of them. He agrees, but the frame has other plans for him. The photo of Sophia and him is replaced with another of the strange blonde woman in a different setting. Francisco has something to hide and is terrified that the woman in the photo is trying to communicate that she knows.
This was a thrill ride from the first page, and with two more books in the series already up for pre-order, I can't wait to read the next installment. Thank you so much to the author for my ARC copy because I just couldn't wait for May 5!
