Tea Die For is the ninth book in the charming Magical Tea Room Mysteries. These books are fun, clean, imaginative mysteries you’ll stay up all night binging.
The book begins with a big showdown at the Vampire Council in Bath, with Darius, the horrible head vampire announcing that vampire hunters were sweeping through the city. He then announced he wanted martial law so that all vampires would have to live in his compound, AND that vampires would stop using donated blood, but instead would be free to hunt humans for blood. The council decides there will be a vote in two days. Then, the author completely drops that plot for the next 100 pages or so, as Minnie and the butlers, and her “Vampire boyfriend Fitz” are off to cater a writers retreat. Quickly, Minnie finds a body at the retreat, and they’re all pulled into investigating.
Eventually the two plots come together, as Minnie and the butlers both try to stop Darius and solve the murders. The story definitely picked up for me at that point, and I especially liked the ending.
I continue to have some issues with a few of the author’s writing habits. When Minnie is thinking about Fitz, she refers to him as her “Vampire boyfriend Fitz” or her “Vampire beau Fitz.” Really, all we need is one indication that Fitz is a vampire and her boyfriend, and that’s enough. The repeated use of these terms feels like word padding and is completely unnecessary.
Despite the slow start, and some annoying writing habits, I did enjoy this book, and will definitely read the next in the series.
Tea Die for by Erin Johnson is the 9th book in the Magical Tea Room Mystery series. I love this series.
I love Minnie and the rest of the vampire characters in this book. There is a lot going on with the vampire's counsel with this one. There was a lot of action.
Meanwhile Minne and the butlers are catering a writer's seminar at a haunted house. Unfortunately, there is a murder (or two).
Oh, there were so many twists and turns, this mystery was so well done.
I absolutely love the romance with Minnie and Fitz, its so beautifully written.
I love the setting of the haunted house and all the secrets that are uncovered. This book I read in two sittings; I could not put it down!
This book opens with Minnie at yet another Vampire Council meeting with Fitz and Gus. At this one Darius has put out a plan that would certainly suppress all of Bath, human, witch, shifters everyone would be adversely affected by his plan. Although he is claiming it to be temporary for their safety with the vampire hunters around. Minnie is concerned because it seems to her the council members seemingly agreeing with him appear to be enthralled somehow, the others seem to be fighting some inner battle. They have three days until the community would vote on this radical change.
In the meantime, the Bath Butler Cafe has a catering event. They are providing meals to the Fifth Annual Ghost Writer's Retreat at Hallowhaunt House. As an aspiring writer Minnie wanted to attend but helping is almost as good. Waverlynn is also helping, and she seems to be attracted Calvin. The house itself is more like a castle, complete with supposed ghosts. While Dom hasn't sensed any he does have an uneasy feeling. The caretaker, Oliver Niles, could be a problem though, he's berating attendees about wiping their shoes and respecting the property.
Minnie plans to listen to the opening address from the retreat leader and famous author Sebastian Grey, while observing the other attendees. There's a couple who draw her attention at the end of the line at the refreshment table, Cora and Evelyn. Apparently, Cora isn't an author, and Evelyn is.
Things get interesting after Sebastian shares an excerpt from his soon to be published work. Seems Evelyn doesn't like the way he portrays his vampires. In fact, she appears to be on a mission to prove vampires are indeed real. It also appears she has a connection to this house through Sir Reginald's brother. The house also has a connection to vampires that she plans to unearth during her stay here.
When Evelyn's late for dinner, Minnie goes in search of her and finds her in the library having a heated exchange with the caretaker, Oliver. She's determined to explore the house and property and he's determined she won't. Both of them seem to disregard that Sir Reginald disappeared after killing his entire family. Dinner has some interesting conversation, what with Evelyn having an antique journal from her uncle she's using as a reference for her work in progress. She reads excerpt from it that upsets Cora, who flees the room. Martin the man who Evelyn says made her aware of her own connection to Sir Reginald and this house, has his own opinions on the subject as Evelyn claims Sir Reginald headed a clan of vampire hunters and they were betrayed by someone he trusted.
All this is coming way to close to the truth of things. Minnie and the others need to be careful as these authors tend to believe the paranormal does exist.
A séance does lead to the summoning of Sir Reginald but those participating don't see him, Dom, Minnie and Fitz do. It also seems he doesn't care much for Vampires.
Then Evelyn doesn't show for breakfast and is found in her room deceased. Enter the police, DI O'Brian is in charge and he's not very tactile and when DI Prescott arrives, he's most disheveled.
So, we have a possible murder, a ghost, a detective with enhanced hearing, an ornery caretaker, and curious authors.
As this tale unfolds, Mollie unravels the mystery of several things. The biggest, other than the murder, is Darius. Sir Reginald's disappearance, and Evelyn's journal are all part of the solution.
I loved this book and I can't wait to read more of this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Tea Die For by Erin Johnson sees Minnie biting off more than she can chew.
Can Minnie solve all the mysteries she encounters?
Minnie Wells Minnie has almost finished her book and is happy that she could secure the tea room a chance to caterer the writer's retreat that she found. She is trying her hardest to keep the tea room afloat and her two vampire buddies away from getting trapped with the rest of the vampire community. Minnie is a great character, and I love to see how she has grown from the first book to now. Her magic is doing great; she has a boyfriend who actually wants her to do what she loves and is surrounded by friends who have become her family. Minnie deserves all the happiness in the world, even though she probably did bite off more than she could chew in this installment.
The Mystery Minnie has a lot of mysteries to solve in this one. The first is who could have killed the well-known author. The second is what happened to the manor's original family, and why didn't the famous author keep the manor in the family? And lastly, how to keep the supernatural communities safe from a tyrant? Minnie, thankfully, was able to solve all of these mysteries within the nick of time. I was able to solve the first two mysteries. Well, the first part of the second mystery.
Five Stars Tea Die For by Erin Johnson has a lot of clues and leads to follow throughout that almost made me go down a rabbit hole of following a red herring. Ms. Johnson has created another fantastic mystery. I hope she can give all the supernatural residents of Bath a happy ending.
I am giving Tea Die For by Erin Johnson five stars and recommending it.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Tea Die For by Erin Johnson.
Tea Die For is the ninth book in the Magical Tea Room Mystery series. I found this story to be the best in the series so far. An aspiring writer, Dr. Evelyn Stanhope, dies at the writer’s retreat in an ancient manor that the tea room is catering, Minnie is asked to fill the spot and Fitz supports her.
Minnie is interested in solving the murder, trying to keep the vampire council at bay, and enjoying the retreat. There is a lot going on in this book. Darius is calling for a vote. He wants to be placed in power of all the vampires in the Bath area and dissolve the council. This would not only affect the vampires but all the other magical creatures and the humans He is using the guise of safety by inviting them all into his castle walls and drumming up fear of vampire hunters encroaching on their area.
Waverlynn, Yas, and Minnie work together to conjure Sir Reginald, the long dead ghost of the manor. Together, these three witches enhance their powers and are stronger together.
Ms. Johnson weaves Kurt, Gus, and Fitz working together to save the vampire council from themselves. We see the witches’ council and the other creatures of the night working together to keep Darius from gaining power.
I enjoyed all the threads being pulled tightly in the end. I see a closer paranormal community in upcoming books. Bring it on, Ms.Johnson.
I was given an advanced e-copy of the book. I am not required to leave a positive review.
Minnie has gotten a catering job for Fitz’ Bath Butler Café at a writer’s retreat at Hallowhaunt House, and while she is too late to register for the retreat herself, as a struggling writer, she is excited to be around the authors and hopes to learn from them. While she is happy to be at the retreat, her best friend Gus and boyfriend Fitz have recently been summoned to vampire Darius’ Council and told that a vote is expected soon that would give him the power to enact martial law as he demands that he alone will lead the group of vampires. The first item on his proposed agenda is that blood banks are to be banished as he believes that vampires are meant to hunt humans as their prey. Somehow, they must stop this power-hungry vampire. Only his ardent group of followers think this is a good idea. Meanwhile, at the retreat the body of one of the authors is found in her room but no one seems to know how this has occurred. Worrying about the Vampire Council’s upcoming decision is put on the back burner as Minnie begins to investigate the death. I adore this wonderful, magical series and hope there will be more and more books in this series. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
I love this series. Erin just keeps it entertaining and interesting. I have found that since the beginning of this series, the tearoom as become a place to grow and more then a place to work. New mysteries and friendships. This book starts with the idea of an evil vampire trying to control the vampires in Bath. In the meantime, Minnie, Fritz and the rest of the staff are working at a writers retreat, where the building saw a terrible massacre. When one murder turns into two and Detective Prescott warns Minnie not to interfere, which we all know she will not, but it is not the way he tells her but how. See there has been a change in the good detective but not for the good. Join in this intriguing story to find out the past and what is going on in the present. Witches, Vampires and Shifters. Read how they all fit into the story.
Witches, familiars, vampires, shifters, ghosts... oh my! This book has everything! Minnie has got quite a lot going on in her life right now, and it’s up to her and her friends and Tilda to solve it all. Darius is trying to take over, plus a murder…
I loved this book! I like Kurt, I’m glad he had a role, he’s smart and open-minded. I like all the regular characters, except of course for the obviously unlikeable one. I loved Tilda and Yas’s new familiar together, fun! Twists and turns made it hard to put down. I did know whodunit, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. And yes, I’d have liked even more justice, but what a great ending! A well-written, spooky-in-a-lighthearted way story! If you like paranormal cozy mysteries, you're sure to love this book!
This series keeps getting better as each book is released. At first, I thought this one was too much like another in the series where Minnie, Fitz, and the butlers from the tea room cater at a mansion. But, this one is quite different. The mansion is in Bath so all of the side characters can, and do, weave through the story. The catering is being done for a writing retreat which Minnie would love to attend but she must be content with eavesdropping. When one of the writers is found dead, Minnie does her trademark snooping. She thinks it was not a natural death. A massacre of the family who lived in the mansion in 1716 is central to the storyline of the book and to the writer's death. How? Read this book to find out. Oh, and I loved the ending... the ending of the book but not the series.
Ghosts, an over-the-top caretaker, and secret tunnels, oh my!
Minnie and the tea shop gang are catering for a writers retreat at a supposedly haunted mansion. One of the guests, who claims to be a descendent of the previous owners of the mansion, doesn't make it to breakfast. Is it an accident or something worse? The caretaker is always slinking around, and he has keys to everything. Does he know more than he's letting on? The original owner pops in for a chat. Prescott isn't the man he used to be. The history of the mansion causes ripples within the supernatural community not just for the vampires. So many secrets in this one and so much going on it's hard not to read in one sitting!
Fledgling writer Minnie Wells is forced to remain on the perimeter of a writer's retreat...until circumstances take a dire turn! Still, writing takes a back seat to solving a cleverly constructed mystery that is a tangled maze of motives stretching back hundreds of years. And there's the small matter of needing to avert a vampire apocalypse in Bath! There is always so much happening in this series to hold the reader's attention, and I am continually amazed at how effortless Erin Johnson makes weaving multiple storylines to a satisfying conclusion appear. This cast of characters is such a delight, and Minnie has earned her place as one of my favorite cozy mystery heroines. She's smart, capable, loyal, and determined to see justice prevail. I want more of this series!
There’s mystery, an attempted political coup, and romance in this charming paranormal cozy novel. We’re back in Bath with Minnie, her sweetheart, vampire Fitz, and the other supernatural characters in this book series. Minnie, a witch now helped by others augmenting her powers with their own, has settled into a community of magical folk, managing to help run a writer’s retreat while solving a centuries-old murder mystery, enabling a maligned ghost to rest in peace at last. Relationships flourish, and seemingly all in the novel are living happily ever after — though I hope that other challenges arise so I can continue to enjoy the company of these lovely people in this lovely setting through more books in the series.
Wow! This newest Magical Tea Room book really kept me guessing! Fitz and his butler crew are catering a Ghostly Writer’s Retreat Weekend at an old manor home. Of course Minnie is right there with them. And, of course, things don’t go as expected. Partway through the weekend, there’s a Murder! The question is whether one of the authors did it, or could it have been the ghost of the manor? Minnie is determined to find out what happened. Adding to the angst, the local Vampire Leader, Darius, is up to no good. He’s trying to institute Marshall Law in Bath and the surrounding areas. Loved this newest book in the series!
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the fact that Minnie was able to get the Tea Room to help out at the place that a writing workshop was happening, even though she couldn’t go. Best of both worlds! Minnie and Fitz get closer. Is this leading to something? Meanwhile Fitz, Gus and, Minnie go to a vampire meeting where Darius spouts more BS but worries that he might actually go do something, and they’re worried about it. Can they figure out what to do, and fix the problem before it happens? The answer might amaze you! You just have to read the book!!! Can’t wait for the next one!!!
When you begin this 9th book in the series, you are hooked. We are once again treated to Minnie a wonderful novice witch and amateur sleuth with her quirky group of friends and a possible love connection with Fitz. In this book Minnie gets the job of catering a writer's retreat at an old manor home. We are treated through with murders, a vampire who wants to take over the town, betrayal, secrets and a detective that wants Minnie to stay out of it all. Of course, she is on the case. There is so much to unpack here, you just have to read it for yourself. I highly recommend the whole series! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
In this latest book in this series, we find Minnie and the usual cast of characters catering a writers convention in a haunted manor. When one of the authors claims she knows that vampires are real and has proof in a diary left by the brother of the man who supposedly killed his whole family in the manor, she is murdered. Trying to solve this murder, and then the next, while trying to stave off disaster in the supernatural world keeps this book exciting. There are lots of surprises throughout the plot and a very sweet ending. Be prepared to read straight through this one!
So good, the best Tea Room mystery yet! Minnie and the gang are catering a writers retreat in a spooky manor house, dating back to the early 1700's. Plus Fritz's sire is attempting to take over the supernatural community in Bath, England. Minnie just can't keep out of all the goings on, using her witchy friends to solve a centuries old murder as well as a recent one or two. The characters are well developed and you would really like to be part of their circle of friends. It feels like this may be the end of this series, but I can always hope for more.
Mostly, I really enjoy this series! However, in this book the mystery jumped to a lot of conclusions that were accurate, but not discovered, and a lot of the problems would have been fairly easily solved using Minnie's witchcraft, but she seemed to forget about it frequently. Also, for having a snooping personality, she was able to let go of a lot of hints dropped by Gus and Fitz. It seemed very out of character. By this book I was just hoping to see more development of Minnie's powers. I did enjoy it well enough though.
I like this series it’s straightforward easy reading decent storyline and plot with added supernatural but in every book in the series English characters use Americanism and I find it really off putting. English people in Bath would not use the term ‘cell phone’ or ‘6th grade’ (what even is 6th grade?) it just seems lazy writing for the sake of a bit of research. It’s absolutely fine for the American character to use these terms but please use English/British terminology for the appropriate characters
Minnie, Fitz and the butlers are catering a writers retreat in a haunted house and once again Minnie finds herself with two deaths to investigate plus there is so much more going on and unexpected twists which keep the reader engaged throughout. Magical co-operation, surprises and new friends all combine in this delightful paranormal investigation. Absolutely loved this story. I do hope this is not the end of the series.
Minnie, Fitz and the butlers are catering at a historic haunted house for a writers conference. While Minnie is trying to soak up all the wisdom from the conference behind the scenes there are some shake ups in the supernatural community. Darius to trying to take over and Kurt is calling in more hunters. Minnie, Fitz and the whole group band together to solve some murders and right some wrongs from the past.
I can’t think of anything better on a chilly afternoon than a hot cup of tea and the latest Magical Tea Room mystery. Folks, Ms Johnson doesn’t disappoint, and the latest book is certainly proof of that.
Minnie and the gang are catering a writer’s retreat when two of the writers are murdered. Can the ghost of the original owner help Minnie solve the crime? Grab a copy and find out!
A gathering has started, but will it be to rule over other paranormals or to join with them? Darius wants to rule Bath with his cadre of enforcers. Prescott has had his life changed, yet he is still a professional at heart. Gus lost his heart to Kurt who thought his world had imploded on finding out the truth. Minnie wants the world around her friends to be inclusive. Can they do it, does everyone have enough heart left to trust?
What a fantastic page turner! Two murders during a writers seminar at a supposedly haunted home. Our butlers are busy as are Minnie and her friends. Jump into the mystery with so many twists and turns to find out how it ends. I will not say or hint how, even when it comes to romance for fear of giving away anything. That is NO easy task! Ms. Erin is a master of intrigue in this book!
Minnie has to work with the entire cast this go round at a writer's conference to solve a series of murders, both past and present, to stop Darius from a full fledged coup of the vampires. So many previous questions are answered in this book! Absolutely brilliant novel!
This series is just so much fun to read! This book was very exciting and involved. I loved how the supernatural population came together and became a community rather than secretive groups. Their lives will be richer for taking that chance. I loved all the outcomes of the characters and was delighted with Fitz and his surprise. I loved this book!
Erin Johnson did it again, wrote another wonderful series. She incorporated her love of Jane Austin and the regency Era in this series. All of her series are humorous, lots of plot twist, clean, touch of romance, and a cozy mystery. I now want to read one or more of Jane Austin's novels.
Was this the last book in the series? I hope not! I love this storyline, and this book was awesome. I enjoyed the setting in the old manor. It seemed like a lot of things were wrapped up in this book, which makes me worry it is, the last, but there are two issues still outstanding. So I hope we get one more!
I am not one to giveaway any thing about what you’ll fine reading this book of the series. If you want to know any of that kind of thing you’ll have to read it. I will tell you that the author has given us an amazing story line and put in so many twists and turns it keeps you guessing. Well done Erin Johnson well done.
This was an excellent ending to a windy charming series.
I liked how all the pieces fell into place, while solving murders, historical and current, and dealing with the maniacal Darius; Minnie and co find their place. Very entertaining and enjoyable, I loved it, and will miss further stories. Howeve, this was a perfect ending.
