Chris Wooding grew up in a small town in Leicestershire, where not much of anything happened. So he started to write novels. He was sixteen when he completed his first. He had an agent by eighteen. By nineteen he had signed his first book deal. When he left university he began to write full-time, and he has been doing it professionally all his adult life.

Now thirty-nine, Chris has written over twenty books, which have been translated into twenty languages, won various awards and been published around the world. He writes for film and television, and has several projects in development.

Chris has travelled extensively round the world, having backpacked all over Europe and North America, Scandinavia, South East Asia, Japan and South Africa. He also lived in Madrid for a time. When he wasn’t travelling on his own, he spent his twenties touring with bands and seeing the UK and Europe from the back of a van.

He also learned not so long ago that his family tree can be traced back to John Milton, author of Paradise Lost, which has no bearing on him whatsoever but it’s kind of interesting anyway.

Chris lives in London.

The sixth part of the Broken Sky series. The first time I bumped into this series was as a young teenager at the local library, so naturally, I have a long-standing fondness for it, and my review might be sentimentally partial.

The books have an AtLA-ish feel, even though they pre-date that show by about five years. They unsurprisingly read almost like a comic book since the author pooled inspiration from early anime/manga. The plot is sometimes predictable, but the world-building is stunning.

This was the first book that read from this series ( it was in middle school and did not realize that it was a series). I had the book and I remember I took it with me on a road trip and I fell in love with it. I was sad when I couldn't find it afterwards and that I couldn't find the other books in the series to read but I really want to read all of them, finally.

Maybe it's because a lot of time usually passes between me getting into my hands one part of this story and the next one, but I do need a moment or two to remember who is who and where we are and what on earth is happening... I should probably just finish them all at once! And I still think it should have been infinitely better to have not many separate tomes but a single and complete book. Anyway, apart from my memory lapses, everything is pretty nice about this story: the characters are normal, but there are unexpected twist and turns here and there, and I love the battles descriptions. If only the mini tomes wouldn't conclude at the most exciting moment!

So, several victories were gained in this part, but there were just as many losses. I liked the forming of Ryushi's relationship with Aurin and the way she came across as human, despite how she grew up.

It was interesting to think about how Calica and Aurin could have become each other if circumstances had been different.

Okay, Now I understand the connecting dreams between Calica and Aurin. But the base was discovered, and the Banes are explained, and EVERYBODY DIIIIIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! You can't do that to ALL the main characters!! *pants* Gotta grab the next book.
