Dulcy Menendez has enough problems dealing with her stepmother and two stepsisters. She doesn’t need her sexy new boss, Ethan MacMillan, watching her every move. Especially since every time she catches his gray eyes studying her, her pulse races and her mind conjures up images of the two of them naked.
Security expert Ethan has taken over his uncle’s company to ferret out an embezzler, and he’s sure Dulcy has something to do with it. He decides, against his better judgment, to seduce the secrets out of her, planning on stopping short of taking her to bed. One limo ride later, and a very determined Dulcy, causes Ethan to decide between work and love. When the sun rises, the truth is revealed, leaving them with one question: What do both of them do when they find themselves in love with a person they can’t trust?
"A Calculated Seduction" is one of Melissa Schroeder's stories that's hard to categorize. It's certainly spicier than most romance novels, but doesn't quite tip the scales on the erotica side for me. It does, however, resonate with Schroeder's humorous voice and a sweet, simple, yet still sensual plot.
Dulcy has less than a year left until she'll receive her inheritance and can finally set up her charitable foundation. Until then, she'll keep working at her job at the boot maker even if her sweet old boss did bring in his hunky, but dour nephew to run the place.
Ethan can't figure out exactly what it is about Dulcy that keeps him up, in every way, all the time. Especially since she's his prime suspect for the embezzlement going on at his uncle's company! Now if he can just think with his BIG head long enough, he's sure he can find the real culprit because Dulcy is just too sweet for it to be her.
Even with a well-used plot, Schroeder brings enough heat and humor to keep me reading. This is one of her older releases (2004) and is pretty short (160 pages, trade paperback size) but still one I'll put on my keeper shelf for a hot, quick pick-me-up.
It's an average read with too much sexual tension and only one major sex scene. This reminded me of Christina Dodd's "Thigh High", they almost have the same storyline, but this one has a different plot. The author left clues here and there about who the culprit is, but I didn't like the way the characters were manipulated and things turned in the wrong direction.
The characters were just ok, the story pace was slow to moderate, and the ending felt rushed. It's a light read though, loose ends were tied and there's also humor which I really liked. Since this is a short story, there wasn't much groveling on Ethan's part that the author didn't write.
Ms Schroeder's excellent writing kept me turning the pages. I've only read her contemporaries, I have yet to read her historicals which I hope are good. Not most authors could accomplish being great at both genres. I still want to read her other works.
Security expert Ethan MacMillan has been brought in to his Uncle's company not only to take over the company, but to find who is embezzling money from within. His Uncle suspects assistant Dulcy Menendez, but every instinct he has says either Dulcy is an unknowing partner or she is helping someone. Ethan is perplexed even more so that he finds Dulcy attractive and can't seem to get the mousy woman out of his head, but as his investigation intensifies Dulcy begins to undergo some changes that has Ethan wanting to protect her even if she is guilty.
I didn't realize I had read this one before. It is a fun read though, love ugly duckling stories. Ethan is interesting because he doesn't want to cross the line with Dulcy until he figures out her involvement and he handles it by keeping her close but at a gruff distance which completely confuses Dulcy. You just can't go wrong with a Melissa Schroeder book.
A spicy sweet contemporary romance. Security expert Ethan has taken over his uncles business in an attempt to find the embezzler. Unfortunately his best suspect is mousy Dulcy his executive secretary and the woman who is driving him to distraction. Their attraction to one another is intense but building a relationship without trust is impossible. This quick read has a sensual spice to it along with sass and humor. I got a kick out of it.
Ethan MacMillan - just the name sends goosebumps down my arms - just so Alpha Sexy! The attraction between Dulcy and Ethan is truly palpable and the twist and turns in their journey was captivating and funny and Hot! Great story! Am a huge Melissa Schroeder fan - And this book is another "Keeper"!
