An unexpected windfall had greedy church choir members seeing green, taking sides and preparing for battle. Their weapon of choice? Practical jokes. And Emma McCall wanted no part of it...until a VW Bug appeared on her bed-and-breakfast's porch. The combatants' pranks were escalating, and only innkeeper Emma seemed to be taking them seriously.
But before the pretty amateur could dust for fingerprints, an unexpected ally appeared: Glory's deputy police chief, Rafe Neilson. So when the antics became no laughing matter, the courageous single dad couldn't let impetuous Emma fight the pranksters alone....

I'm sorry that Love Inspired Suspense stopped including Cozy Mysteries in their line up. I really enjoyed this one-- Glory Be! by Ron & Janet Benrey.
Unfortunately over an unexpected bequest to the church, this story starts with a very believable church conflict over issues that have nothing to do with what the church is really about. A conflict over styles of worship music start a war fought by pranks.
Unfortunately these pranks play into the sinister designs of someone who isn't playing at all but using murder to achieve his/her ends.
This cozy also had a sweet romance between Emma, the new B & B owner in town, and Rafe, the new deputy police chief. Both were likable and both had perfectly sound reasons for avoiding romance. But then when did true love ever run smooth?
I picked this up at a garage sale and wish again that Love Inspired Suspense include cozies. I love them.
This is the first of four books that take place in this small town of Glory. It starts out with some practical jokes (and I'm a bit surprised that Rafe didn't punish his daughter for her part in the pranks). Emma runs a bed and breakfast and sings in the church choir. There is a big fight going on among the church members about Traditional worship vs. contemporary worship. Unfortunately, this was a big fight that I was witness to. Those who haven't seen it may think that the authors went way overboard in this book - but they didn't. I witnessed a split.
The suspense surrounding the murder and pranks that continue will keep you guessing until the end. I was a bit surprised - and disappointed in the person - that ended up being the murderer.
The romance was great. I loved the sweet way the two just fell for each other. I thought it was sweet, and it's just the way I like it...
A new cozy series for me--set in North Caroline--love that--assistant police chief and owner of a bed and breakfast find themselves in the same church choir, and then involved in the same murder--it's an easy read, but a relaxing story. Four in the series thus far... ready to read the rest of them.. Much of the action centered around a church and the animosity between the traditional music lovers and the contemporary music people...and there is the key to murder...:)
Just a nice, cozy read without all the psychodrama, dysfunctional families, and interpersonal relationship complexities of so many contemporary novels and mysteries. The conflict in the church while exaggerated, is real. I enjoyed the time spent with this book.
I enjoyed this book very much. It's a light mystery with some romance. No heavy material. I'd compare it to a "Murder She Wrote" episode. I plan on reading the others in the series.
