What If...the X-Men Had Lost Inferno?, script by Danny Fingeroth, pencils by Ron Lim, inks by Keith Williams; S'ym and the Goblin Queen succeed in sacrificing baby Nathan Christopher, opening a permanent gateway between earth and Limbo; With even heroes like Wolverine being subverted by demonic influence, Dr. Strange and his small band of rebels try to figure out a way to reclaim their world; Strange awakens Rachel Summers (who has been turned into a store mannequin) and asks her to call the Phoenix force from space to purge the earth of demons; When it arrives, the Goblin Queen shows up to try and wrest control of the power from Rachel; The heroes prevail but have to start over on a primeval world. Appearances by S'ym, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, She-Hulk, the Hulk, Doctor Doom, Thor, Baron Mordo, and the Living Tribunal.

A story that begins with the death of a hero and a little baby sacrificed is not gonna be a happy tale…
The whole world becomes corrupted, besides a few heroes (and villains) who try to save the world they knew.
But with the help of the Phoenix Force (and after many deaths), the Earth is literally cleansed by fire and returned to a primal state.
There is still life and hope as Alicia gives birth to a baby boy…
I’m not sure how I felt about the story as a whole but I did find it sad to see Wolverine so twisted that he killed his friend and mentee.
It was also an interesting choice to have the Phoenix Force as a saviour of a planet.

The Watcher sees all.
Good color artwork. Demonic forces battled and lost the earth during the Inferno series. This asks what would happen if they won? Interesting to see all the betrayal and demonic looks.
