When PC Andy Davidson arrests a young girl for shoplifting, he thinks it's going to be a routine case. That is, until he sees that she is carrying a gun. The girl is soaking wet, covered in mud, and the weapon is like nothing he's ever seen before. He knows that this is a case for Torchwood...The team discovers that the girl is called Freda, but can find out nothing else. Yet when she speaks, it's a strange mix of English and Icelandic, but with a Cardiff accent. While Jack and Ianto check out the girl's weapon and her blood sample at the Hub, Gwen and PC Andy take Freda to a safe house. But when Jack calls with the results - and Freda goes on the run - PC Andy finds his world turning upside down. Written specially for BBC Radio by Anita Sullivan, "Asylum" stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones and Tom Price as PC Andy Davidson. It contains adult themes and language.
I am an award-winning writer of radio and theatre plays, short-stories, podcasts and video drama. All of my 60+ scripts have been staged or broadcast.
Writing is exploration. Experience the world as an octopus, a bee, a fox hunter, a musician from Diego Garcia, a companion-robot or a 130 year old woman. Enter the Heart of Darkness, drive the Shadowbahn through an American of disunion, swim The English Channel, orbit Earth with Gagarin or land on the moon with Apollo 11.
My Radio 4 plays are often recorded on location, my theatre work site-specific. I like to work collaboratively, blending script, documentary and improvisation.
I love the Torchwood trio, Captain Jack, Ianto and Gwen back fighting aliens with old Torchwood vibes before any of the events of Miracle Day. And a guest appearance from PC Andy too who was also absolutely brilliant in this.
Fantastic story as ever and brilliantly acted and performed. Don’t think there’s a Torchwood story I couldn’t love!
Not sure if I am going to continue these... This one wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that good either. I can imagine the tv show being much better, but it's hard to get all that action across in just audio.
Another very well done Torchwood radio play. This one was about a young girl from the future ending up in Cardiff and with the Torchwood team. Lots of Gwen and she was kinda annoying in this one, but there was also a lot of PC Andy which was great. He would make a great part of Torchwood. There was some great laugh out loud moments between Jack and Ianto.
The ending felt weird, almost like it wasn't quite a true ending but just a place to stop the story.
This is the first audio drama I’ve listened to for Torchwood, and it felt like watching an episode of the tv series. Just close your eyes and picture what’s happening as the story unfolds! Great cast performances, and a rather touching story, short enough to listen to in one sitting. Definitely need to check more of these out!
Broadcast between series two and three, this full-cast radio drama sees the Torchwood team at its peak. When a troubled teenage girl falls through the Cardiff Rift, her memories suppressed, her plight brings out both Gwen’s (superbly played) empathy and Jack’s suspicion.
Interesting audio showing what happens when the Torchwood team are for once confronted with a non-malicious alien. One could even compare it to the migrant issues which come about in the next decade.

Another typical day at Torchwood. Well written and admirably performed as we would expect from the awesome cast.
Full cast Torchwood radio drama. Andy arrests a girl for shoplifting and calls Gwen when she's found with an alien artefact. In blaze Torchwood, but they're flummoxed because the girl is an alien from the future and not inherently evil which causes them to rethink their kill all alien lifeforms policy.
The productions on this are top notch and it really draws you into the story. Nice to see Andy getting a central role. This is also a strong story for Gwen. It's not the best story in the world, but kept me hooked throughout. Its very plot driven and doesn't really offer much character background. Still well worth a listen for Torchwood fans.
A touching, smart and exciting tale in the true spirit of the Torchwood concept. "Asylym" is a time travel story that offers some interesting speculation about our future as well as a sharp examination on the human fear of the unknown. Anita Sullivan's dialog is fleshy and flows well. Good old sci-fi intrigue that offers just as many questions as it does answers and has a heart in the right place as well.
PC Andy calls in Torchwood after he arrests a young shoplifter carrying an alien. While the team attempts to discover who she is, Andy learns more about aliens and Torchwood.
This audio play uses the original cast, including Tom Price as PC Andy, and is set after the conclusion of Season 1. Some good Ianto moments, but no real indication of his relationship with Jack. A bit too much Gwen for my taste.

It was great to have Andy in the story! During my first listen, I had trouble following the story and wasn't that impressed. This changed with the second round. Really interesting story and quite unsettling since the future in question is not very far ahead. I wish we could know the story from the other side of the rift!!
On a second listen, this radio play is stronger and more coherent than I remembered. I especially liked Andy and again Gwen is strong and competent again. Jack is a bit flaky like always. I liked the plot better the second time around. Coherent and with enough whimsy to make me smile.
again probably 3.5 I had a hard time with there accents but I was also driving at highway speeds. and it also felt as if the story didn't really finish
These audio dramas play out just like an episode of the show! Phenomenal! The whole cast did superb, but to me, the stand-out castmember is Eve Myles. She is extraordinary.
A rather interesting Torchwood story which I think would have made a fine television episode to kind of counterbalance the fight against alien incursion stories.
