Another exciting read by LaHaye and Parshall. This is the second in the series and the continuity of suspense is holding true. It seems like the world forces are pulled in all different directions. There is a corrupt political system, outside countries trying to bring America down either by conventional war or nuclear force, power hungry people trying to take over the world, patriots fighting for their country and a strong Christian belief that all is falling in place for the final days. It will be interesting to see where the next two books in this series goes. As I have said before, this might not be everyone’s genre, but it is well worth reading.

Compared to the first outing, this sequel ups the ante with more action, increased intensity, and a cliffhanger ending. If you liked Edge of Apocalypse, chances are you will love this one.
EDIT: Not long before starting this, I finished my fourth trip through Babylon Rising, another series created by Tim LaHaye. I have to say he does a much better job here. The characters and intensity felt more real, and there weren't interruptions every few chapters. I would say that this series, at least so far, is the late Mr. LaHaye's best work by far; Babylon Rising was mediocre and too fantastical, whereas Left Behind, despite its mega-bestselling status, was dreadful and badly written.

Biblical prophecy is beginning to shape reality. We are just far enough into the future to come across some interesting technology but not so far that we fail to recognize events captured in popular headlines. The end is near, and not even Joshua Jordan's anti-nuclear return to sender technology can stop global events moving from really bad to catastrophic.
Yes, you must read Edge of Apocalypse first.
It was a good read. I think, and this is a problem that plagues all serial collections, the authors lost a little steam here. The Christian element tries valiantly to become a core theme, but with very few exceptions, the attempt is just that.
The action is good, but like most action thrillers, there is too much left to lucky breaks that makes the plot feel too convenient, too clean. At some point we'll need to lose a main character, and while it appalls me to write such, I now see why and how it functions as a necessary device. Alternatively, give me something that makes a struggle to the climax of the story more challenging. Make me become more emotionally involved.
Will I move to the next book in the series? Yes, but it will mostly be driven by LaHaye's name recognition. I'm curious to see where he takes the story. I am working hard not to draw too many parallels to Left Behind, but it's hard not to when that series was such an epic. At 4 stars, this is well above average. If my review seems a bit harsh, it's only because I think the authors have it in them to deliver a tighter concentrated punch.
Rosenberg's The 12th Imam and the subsequent Tehran Initiative had a little trouble keeping up with Edge of Apocalypse. Now though, the gap has significantly narrowed. Stay tuned for future thoughts...

Fast-paced, with information on current events and Biblical prophecy. Yes, this is fiction but a similar scenario could play out in the near future. Read Edge of Apocalypse first so you know what's happened.

I struggled BIG TIME to get through this book. To start with, there were far too many characters with very little, if any, character development. And while his knowledge regarding Biblical prophecies was apparent, it felt like that knowledge was thrown into the story in a very haphazard way. Then throw in some very unrealistic events (discussing relationship issues while a full-on war is going on in the building you're in?!) and you just have a mess of a book. I really did want to like this book. But sadly, the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one was because of his knowledge about prophetic events.

Wonderfully enjoyable (and educational for the uninformed) and an excellent reading experience. As usual in the series this book is dramatically and clearly narrated by Stefan Rudnicki.

Tim Lahaye is an excellent author. This book was awesome. Had a lot of things in the book that I enjoy listening to. This is a Christian story. I enjoy books with military endeavors. It had world events and biblical events happening. So I really enjoyed it.

I had the privilege of interviewing Craig Parshall, on our radio show “Kingdom Highlights” for his new book, “Thunder of Heaven” Book Two in The End series published by Zondervan.
From the inside jacket flap: Joshua Jordan’s reputation is on the line when his controversial RTS system fails to protect Flight 199 as it takes off from Chicago and is shot down by a terrorist missile. The government is taking no chances and starts an investigation of Joshua’s entire defense program. Unfortunately, the Israelis, longtime allies of the United States, are desperate for the technology. When Joshua flies to the Middle East to assure them of the RTS reliability, he is captured by Iranians who want the secret for the defense tool for their own use.
With Joshua out of the country, Abigail Jordan is left in charge of the Roundtable and sets out to defend her husband to the media and to the commission set up to investigate RTS. But America is under attack–a bombing in the Mall of America and rumors of even more potential atrocities have this covert team desperate to find additional bombs before they are set off.

Unlike a previous series by Dr. LaHaye this series is set not to far from where we are today. Dr. LaHaye is using Bible prophecy to show how close we are to what the Bible tells us will happen.
Craig Parshall, known for his legal fiction, has written a page turning, heart-thumping thriller with careful attention to the state of the world right now and how the Bible says we will turn out. Many of the “things” that are mentioned in the book are in place right now and in use, even though most of us are not aware of them. Dr. LaHaye and Craig Parshall have one agenda in mind and that is the salvation of many through this work of fiction. Their zeal is that many will have their eyes open to the state of our world and see that much of where we are currently and where we are poised to go the Bible has already warned us of and that we would understand our need for a savior. They do a truly remarkable job in this book while exciting us with this story that everyone will enjoy.
When I asked where we would be headed in the next book I was told that he would not tell me but that this series is envisioned as a trilogy with the next one due out next year. I can hardly wait!!!

I loved meeting Josh and his family and following their adventures around the world! Not only is this story so timely, Josh’s spiritual journey really touched my heart. This book is first and foremost an inspirational tale set against the backdrop of a page-turning plot that escalates rapidly to a nail-biting climax.

From the very first page, I was completely enthralled with Thunder of Heaven. I just could not put this book down once I started it! It is the second in The End Series by Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall. It is set in the very near future, almost too near for comfort as we watch course of present day government policies work towards their obvious, but frightening, conclusions.
As I was given this book in exchange of an honest review, it was the first one I had read from the series and I was impressed that it read well as a stand-alone. I must admit from this one alone that I am anxious to read all books in this series.
It is like a menagerie with elements of the past, the present, and the prophetic future, a modern version of King Arthur's tales of knights having a code of honor and patriotism, but with our technological advances in weaponry, along with familiar age-old conflicts between good and evil yet building to the prophetic conclusion written in the Bible. The style is action-packed with conspiracies on many levels and a small band of dedicated people, the Roundtable, of varied expertise willing to use their influence to obtain information vital to the country's security as well as sacrificing money, liberty, and even their lives, when necessary, to protect the United States against its own leaders with globalizing agendas. The latest American polices seeming to promote global tolerance with past enemies while ignoring the constant threat against Israel were incarnated in such a believable way that it is quite chilling.
As described in Ezekiel, Israel is to be hopelessly surrounded, outnumbered, outgunned, and attacked from all sides...well, if you know your Bible, you also know the outcome of that. If not, you should know that this very thing is prophesied and the miraculous preservation of Israel is so wonderfully illustrated within the pages of this book that it took my breath away.
Even with all seemingly falling apart in the world, the God-given gifts of love and hope were not lost in the rubble of events. I liked that there were believable and strong Christian characters: a Christian woman struggling with her feelings for an unbeliever; a man befriending a disfigured Christian while in an Iranian prison; and the desire to do what is right even in fear of retribution from the White House itself.
Lastly, the message of God's authoritative superiority, control over the elements, perfect timing, and protection of Israel was portrayed powerfully. It truly was Thunder of Heaven.

I was sold from the first page and glued to this riveting fictional tale of the thunders of Biblical prophecy about to be unveiled in the latest sequel to Edge of Apocalypse. Not knowing which direction the threats would be coming from the terrorist plot for nuclear bombs within the US, to the imminent threat against Israel's demise from Iran, it seems like no place is safe anywhere on Earth. While the pages of the Bible get closer to Revelations final chapters, the story keeps the reader on the edge of their seat until end. This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion and a must read for followers of Bible Prophecy, end-times fiction. Makes you wonder just how close are we to hearing the proverbial rumblings of thunder on the horizon even now.

Thunder of Heaven by Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall is the second book of their End Series. It continues the story of Joshua Jordan and his family living in the final days of earth before Jesus' Second Coming.
As I said in my review of the first book, this series falls more under Political Thriller than End Times Fiction.
The story picks up a year after the end of the first book I believe. Sorry, the timeline is a little fuzzy. Soon, the United States is facing another threat of mass destruction, and the White House will not take action to save the country. Joshua and his wife Abbigail go to their secret society, The Roundtable, where they decide to put together their own commando team to take out the bad guys before they can blow up New York and Washington. Joshua then gets asked to help Israel with their RTS technology. While over there, he gets taken prisoner by the North Koreans. He's tortured for information, but he doesn't crack. A fellow prisoner who's face has been mutilated for his Christian beliefs talks with Joshua. Joshua gets saved while imprisoned, and then he's rescued.
I just couldn't get into this series like I did with Left Behind. I think part of the problem was the pages and pages of geological description to show us how the earth is telling us it's the final days. I also got muddled up in the many different characters to try and keep up with. I didn't get to know Joshua, Abbigail, Deborah, or Cal because the book focuses on events rather than the actual characters.
This just wasn't the book series for me. Sadly, I cannot continue reading books three and four.

I didn't get to know Joshua, Abbigail, Deborah, or Cal because the book focuses on events rather than the actual characters.
This just wasn't the book series for me. Sadly, I cannot continue reading books three and four.

Joshua Jordan and crew are back. This time, his RTS system fails to protect an airplane from a missile attack. But two other planes, also terrorits targets, are saved by RTS. Who is behind the attack and is it just the opening act in a far more devilish plot?
The country is terrified, but President Corland is suffering from blackouts due to mini strokes. Vice President Tulrude assumes the Presidency when Corland goes into a coma. There is reason to believe that more terrprist attacks are eminent, but Turlrude ignores the intelligence.
Jordan, Abigail and other members of the Roundtable take the threat seriously. While Jordan goes to Isreal get a modified RTS system up and running, Abigail sends two teams to find and dismantle suitcase nukes headed for the Capitol and Manhatten. One attempt ends in a blast that wipes out a New Jersey town. For this, Tulrude indicts the group for sedition conspiracy. Why won't she act to protect the United States from terrorism? And what can be done about the Russian-Islam coalition that is amassing troups and heading toward Isreal?
Readers are taken on a fast-paced ride in this second novel in "The End" series. It is worth it.

“Thunder of Heaven,” book two of Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall’s “End series,” continues a fictionalized account of the “end of days” written about in Revelation. The time is the not too distant future. This time military hero Joshua Jordan, his influential family and wife, Abigail join with a group of underground patriots to stop a terrorist nuclear attack on New York City. An event that may include an attack on Israel, yet no one in government will listen to Joshua’s warning.
The story opens with “…National Airlines Flight 433 to Denver…” waiting for clearance from ground control to taxi down the runway at JFK International airport. In a nearby warehouse the terrorists go over the final details of their mission. Hassan, their leader, clicks on the Sat-fone, “…and waited until a woman inside the terminal answered…”
When she did she told him the pilots were still waiting for clearance and said, “…I will tell you when it [the plane] starts taxiing down the runway…”

I gave Edge of Apocalypse a 5 star rating and can do no less for Thunder of Heaven. If I was watching this as a movie, I would be on the edge of my seat and totally focused on what was happening.
What a description of the invasion of Israel and the total upending of that invasion. This invasion could happen in our days. We know it will happen before the beginning of the Tribulation, but does the Bible give any time frame for it?
Whether the invasion happens before or after the Rapture, it will take 7 years to clean up the mess. But happen it will and God will send thunder from heaven! I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series.

Great Second inning
After reading the first book in this series I was eager to start the second and it did not disappoint. The story flows well and the action is non-stop. The war between good and evil, seen from both sides covered by the message of redemption. There is no "homesickness", just a great story and a greater message. I highly recommend this series.

I really enjoyed this sequel...not quite as intriguing as the first, but still well worth the read...the author ties current events into future events very suspense fully...another one that is hard to put down!

2nd book in the series. Just as good as the 1st. Think I've read this one 3 times now. Love the artwork on these books too. Quite beautiful.

I love this book! I'm a Christian and believe in what the Bible says. There is a prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39 about a future war where Russia, Iraq, Turkey and other countries, attack Israel. Even though this book was written in 2011 (ten years ago), it's set in the future and reads like today's newspaper. This book is a fictional story of a powerful Christian family who is living in the end times, trying to help America and Israel through some dicey times. Near the end of the book, the enemy coalition attacks Israel, and just before Israel reaches the point of being overtaken, volcanoes and earthquakes along the outer ring of the country of Israel all go off together and annihilate the massive enemy armies. The description of the event is breathtaking. And -- it is exactly like the prophet prophesied thousands of years ago. The Christian family, the Jordans, are well-drawn characters in this story and its interesting to watch them as they go through some difficulties and get through them. I highly recommend this book if you are the least bit interested in Bible and end-time prophecy.

I am in two minds about this one. The way it plays on recent events to generate a believable plot is really admirable, and most of the characters are interesting. Furthermore, I don't mind that it is increasingly utilizing Christian canon as part of the plot. However, the focus on the merits of converting to Christianity is getting a little heavy-handed and repetitive. I understand that the author of this series is himself involved in the faith, but until now I had taken it to simply be a fact about the author of a good series. Unfortunately, if it continues in this direction I may be forced to abandon a perfectly interesting series...I am not at that point yet but am definitely considering it.
