Camy writes Christian romantic suspense, contemporary romance, and cozy mystery as Camy Tang and Regency romance under her pen name, Camille Elliot. She grew up in Hawaii but now lives in northern California with her engineer husband and rambunctious dog. She graduated from Stanford University in psychology with a focus on biology, but for nine years she worked as a biologist researcher. Then God guided her path in a completely different direction and now she’s writing full time, using her original psychology degree as she creates the characters in her novels. In her free time, she’s a staff worker for her church youth group and leads one of her church’s Sunday worship teams. She also loves to knit, spin wool into yarn, and is training to (very slowly) run a marathon.

SUMMARY: Tessa Lancaster worked for her uncle in the Japanese mafia until she was sent to prison for a murder she didn't commit. Now, after finding God behind bars, she takes odd jobs as a bodyguard to keep her distance from the family business.

In A Dangerous Stage, the second book in Camy Tang's Protection for Hire series, Tessa gets caught up in the web of lies surrounding a shady singing competition. Hired by one of the contestants, she works with Charles Britton---the lawyer who sent her to prison---to discover the dark figures manipulating the contest from behind the scenes.

Tessa's abilities will be tested like never before as she's forced to balance the safety of her client's family and her deepening relationship with Charles. In the midst of the chaos, she holds on to her faith to keep her safe and bring down the shadowy organization.

REVIEW. This second book in the Protection of Hire series continues with Tessa as a bodyguard and Charles as her lawyer on retainer. Filled with action, intrigue, and behind the scenes looks into the illegal gambling rings, this story kept my attention from start to finish. Tessa and Charles continue to develop their relationship as they both fight their attraction for different reasons. Tessa is still battling the difficulties of forgiving Charles for his role in her prison sentence. While Charles is battling is preconceived perception of what a lawyer's wife needs to be like. Both of them have to rely on their faith to come to the realization of what their life should truly be.

I have loved Camy's previous series but found this one a little grittier and more violent that her other writing. I liked the story lines in both of the books in this series, but would not recommend them to anyone who dislikes violence in their mysteries.

FAVORITE QUOTES: "I don't want to forgive him.." "None of us want to forgive...You choose to do it like you choose to rip off a bandage or dig out a thorn."

"Honey, children think they're very clever about appeasing their parents, but parents have lip-service radar!"

"Since we all give lip service to our parents, think about how easy it is to give lip service to God."

George is a contestant on a competitive TV show. His 13 year old daughter Hannah is a computer hacker. When Hannah hacks into the shows computers and finds out the show is being rigged both she and George find themselves in danger.

Tessa Lancaster is hired to protect George and Hannah while investigating who is behind the rigging of the show. Tessa hasn't spoken to Charles(her lawyer) for over a year. Not since she found out that he was the one that recommended her stay in prison be two years longer, and not allow her to attend her favorite aunts funeral. When she finds her clients in need of Charles' lawyer expertise she knows that there are going to be awkward days ahead. She is determined to fuel her ire towards Charles even when feelings of attraction arise between them.

When Tessa's past once again threatens to cross with her present she must be careful with both the FBI now investigating the case and her yakuza uncle who just may be in the thick of the talent show rigging.

You know a book is going to be good when it starts out with an awesome car chase and a woman kicking some bad-guy butt! This is the second book in the Protection For Hire series and it was just as exciting and nail-biting as the first one. There was also humor intertwined throughout the story and one laugh-out-loud-knee-slapping moment that still has me chuckling! A Dangerous Stage also delves into the characters spiritual feelings. Charles struggles with his need to share about his faith and Tessa struggles with her need to forgive. Both make Camy Tang's characters seem more true to life. I'm looking forward to the next book in The Protection for Hire series. I'm thinking Tessa has some serious unresolved childhood issues that are going to rear up in the next book! Can't wait!

A bit of a cliffhanger here as the communication from Tessa’s father is never resolved and .. unfortunately there are no more Tessa books (which is too sad for me!).
Interesting story that contains more tech stuff than I could easily follow.

Tessa Lancaster is one of the yakuza's (Japanese mafia's) toughest enforcers until an encounter with Christ in prison changes the course of her life.
"A Dangerous Stage" is the second page turning installment of the Protection for Hire series featuring Tessa Lancaster, professional bodyguard and Charlies Britton, southern gentleman and high powered attorney. While the book is a stand alone title, Tess and Charles's story is much richer if you read book one Protection for Hire first. The fast paced scenes and sharp dialogue kept me turning the pages and when I was forced to put it down I anticipated picking it up again!
The book begins in high gear, with Tess and a client of the run from the client's abusive ex-boyfriend. Tess is just as quick at thinking on her feet as she is at sparing with the bad guys. The heart pounding chase ends with Tessa asking a favor of her family, who she's had a very tentative relationship with since become a Christian and severing ties with the family run yukuza.
Family isn't the only part of her past Tessa must face. A case throws her together with the man who extended her jail sentence-the man who she thought she might be falling in love with. But a year after finding out about Charles Britton's betrayal, Tess is still deeply angry and hurt. As the two are entangled together in case that involves keeping a teenager alive, they must confront their painful past.
The case is very intriguing-George a contestant on a reality singing show with more troubles than possibly being voted off when his teenage daughter/computer whiz Hannah hacks her way into the middle of a gambling syndicate betting on the show.
With an unknown number of the show's producers involved, Tess and her charges must stay on the show to stay alive.
The spiritual plot is subtle yet distinct as Tess's rough edges continue to be softened as she grows in Christ. Charles's own faith is stretched as he must find the courage to articulate his beliefs and then weigh the cost of sharing Christ with his coworkers and friends.
The secondary characters including Vivian, Charles's wise fusion cooking Southern belle Mama, add depth to the story. I was excited to see Uncle Teuro make another appearance. He and Tessa come to a very sweet understanding.
The book alternates between spicy action, serious spiritual reflection, complicated romance, exasperating family drama, and laugh out loud levity. The book is light on the romance and heavy on action but after reading other reviews I'll add a disclaimer that a couple of scenes contain more than hand holding. Though it didn't seem inappropriate to me. Nor did the other scene a few people have complained about. Tang's own Japanese heritage lends authenticity to the book and is reflected in the tasty dishes mentioned. (I was hungry after reading this book!)
I gave the book four stars because the case seemed to peeter out at the end. I had to go back and read who a few of the "bad guys" were. I wish this had been fleshed out a bit more.
Fans of Robert B. Parker's Spenser and Sunny Randall books, will love the Protection for Hire series.
Tess's estranged father makes a cameo through a shadowy email. This plot line is unresolved by book's end and left me hoping for another title in the series.

#2 Protection for Hire

I loved this story ~ a great mix of suspense, humour (Camy Tang has some great one-liners!) and of course, romance!

I loved meeting up with Tessa and Charles again ~ not to mention Charles' mother Vivian, who is wonderful, and Tessa's mom, sister and niece, who are...different! I usually have a smile on my face during their scenes.

I also appreciated the theme of forgiveness throughout the story. Most of the time, when we need to forgive, we forgive and move on. Sometimes though, it's a constant thing. When the betrayal and hurt is deep, every time the memory surfaces, we have to make that decision to forgive again. I liked how Camy Tang brought that out with Tessa ~ her hurt was very deep, so she had to keep forgiving.

I also appreciated how Camy wove in sharing our faith with others. I tend to be more a Charles than a Vivian, but it did make me think.

Get set for a wild ride as Tessa protects the daughter of a contestant of a show that seems to be rigging the results, and Hannah has stumbled on something she was never supposed to have seen! Add in the yakuza (Japanese Mafia), an interesting family, a vengeful assistant, computer hackers...and a hero who has made a mistake but doesn't give up on his love, and you are in for a great read!

Another incredible ride from Camy Tang! Just when I think... meh, this'll be just a good easy read/distraction from the day-to-day... I was blown away, again!

Started it after church, and (with the exception of eating, bathroom breaks... where admittedly the book came along!?, and a little facebook distraction) finished it up in one fell swoop!

Kicking off with an action-packed sequence that had my heart racing. Throwing in growing character development with folks I had already fallen in love with in Protection for Hire. The next book in the series did not disappoint in the least. I was highly entertained, clearly enthralled, and even challenged to think out some of my own struggles that compare to the various characters.
All of this is what makes her books rank among my favorites!

My thoughts on this are pretty much as conflicted as its predecessor.

The characterization, story, romance, cultural elements are all pretty poorly done, except that the line running through re: these character's faith not only rang true but was personally convicting. ike I identified so much with the things Tessa and Charles were struggling with re: each of their personal faith.

ANYWAY, I will try to come back and write a proper review.

edited to fix its to proper form

On the one hand, this wasn't quite as good as the first because at times the writing was a bit stilted, but on the other hand, I like Tessa so I am sorry that this series didn't go past 2. Since many people like romance books written this way, I mainly blame whoever assigned the cover art for both books--what were they thinking???? I would never have read either of these based on the covers. Okay, it's from Stockphoto-low budget-so I blame the person in charge of cover design and whoever approved his choice. I suspect that this is one of the reasons neither book sold more copies--the first book's cover is even worse. And, yes, to name names, the person in charge of cover design is called Jeff Gifford (this stuff is always printed in books).

So, this picks up about a year after the first book. Tessa is getting clients for her business. In this one, she is protecting the daughter of the most popular contestant on a TV singing audition show (this was written in 2012) who has discovered that the show's voting has been rigged for gambling and is now in danger. She is not with Charles, the lawyer, and so there is the romance factor going here. But there is an email from her long lost (dead??) father she doesn't answer. The cliff hanger at the end of the book is this email from her father, so I am miffed we learn no more, but otherwise am content with the ending.

A crazy car chasing scene sets the pace for this humour filled action packed suspense. But between all the fight scenes and funny moments, we also get a lot of depth with Tessa needing to deal with forgiveness.

I enjoyed meeting up with Tessa and Charles and seeing the crazy scenarios Tessa finds herself in.

There was a cliffhanger due to an unresolved issue and I hope the author will deliver a third Tessa and Charles story to wrap up all those open issues.

A Dangerous Stage
Camy is a master storyteller. I have enjoyed every book I ever read by her and 'A Dangerous Stage' is no exception.

Camy knows how to write great characters! I love Tessa. I want to be like Tessa when I grow up. Not the Yakuza part! She is so tough and confident and bold!

If you haven't read 'Protection for Hire' by Camy, you'll want to start there. It's another awesome book!

Tessa is in the bodyguard business and she is awesome at it. Her unique background helps her defend the people who hire her. The chemistry between her and Charles is electric. I enjoy the way that Camy develops their relationship. Tessa is wounded by Charles and he is unable to see how much they mean to each other. Tessa is so strong and put together but we also get to see her softer side, the side that can be injured. Brought together by a mutual client, Tessa and Charles are forced to interact and the sparks fly!! Yay sparks!!

This is an action-packed ride. I didn't want to put it down, even for sleep... and I like sleep. The first scene has Tessa in a car chase and kicking butt! Camy keep the action coming and the characters are so engaging that you can't help but get sucked into their world. I laughed at the humorous interactions, felt wounded for Tessa and Charles and even felt my adrenalin spike as Tessa dealt with the danger around them. Whoo, what a ride!

Camy has a wonderful way of writing that is just hers. I wasn't far into 'A Dangerous Stage' when I paused and thought 'I feel like I am sitting with Camy, over a cup of tea, and she is telling me this story in her own words.' She has a unique way of making her voice shine out of the pages. I've never met Camy, nor talked to her on the phone, but I could hear her voice in the book and loved it even more because of it. Like hearing a thrilling story from a good friend!

If you enjoy a fast-paced story with wonderfully developed characters, this book is for you. If you enjoy a good romance with twists and turns, this book is for you!!

Camy's tagline is:

'Romance with a kick of wasabi'

and she sure does deliver! Bring on the Wasabi!

Thanks for the great ride Camy! I hope we get to read more about Tessa someday! Five big stars for this awesome book!

Tessa is back! Miss Tessa Lancaster is back with Protection for Hire Book 2! The story continues about one year after the end of the first book by Camy Tang, Protection for Hire. Tessa is continuing to protect her charges while volunteering at the battered women's shelter. She thinks about handsome lawyer Charles Britton a lot, but she can't decide if she wants to kiss him or punch him. They are thrown together in order to investigate and protect the father and daughter involved in a rigged singing TV competition. Will Tessa be able to protect everyone she cares about? Is it possible her mafia-boss-uncle is involved with the gambling scheme? Can she learn to forgive Charles for hurting her? Can she and Charles discover who all is behind the mysterious email mistakenly sent to her client before it's too late?

I've been looking forward to reading A Dangerous Stage ever since I finished reading the first book, Protection for Hire. I have read all of Camy Tang's books. Her characters are so real and relevant. I loved getting sucked into Tessa's fast-paced world filled with paranoia and Japanese yakuza. Tang writes with an authenticity that is contagious and leaves you wanting more. She is especially good at weaving in updated references to movie or television characters, which made me smile.

Tessa's character must learn to forgive in order to move on in her life as a Christian. The reader can relate with the way that Tessa struggles with anger and bitterness. She feels betrayed and doesn't want to forgive but in the end, she realizes what is more important. It was interesting reading about how her relationship with her father was influencing her relationship with Charles.

I highly recommend this book and series for anyone who enjoys a good mystery suspense with some Christian values and romance thrown in. You won't regret this read - I read it in less than a day! Now, I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I received this book free from the author (as a contest giveaway) and from NetGalley but was not required to write a positive review.

The second book in the “Protection for Hire” series is an explosive title filled with thrilling car chases, up close and personal hostage situations and good old romantic suspense to keep the pages turning quick and the reader riveted.

I admit, I did not easily follow all of the “suspense” in this romantic suspense. I know, my bad, and I don’t put the book down because of it. I one of those readers that loves a good suspense, but must admit, most of the time I can’t follow the story line worth a hoot.

However, I can say that the writing was great. Words painted pictures on the mind’s eye and were always pretty clear about what I was seeing. When “Gramps” gave up the ghost…well I admit I was a bit sad to see that car of a character bite the exhaust pipe. Point of my telling you that? There is some fun situational humor mixed into the book which definitely gives it a rare, unique flavor.

Things I would have liked more of? A bit more romance. And a stronger story line about Tessa’s dad. But I have a feeling the latter might be coming in another title and there was plenty going on in Tessa emotionally to be adding anything else.

Fun title. Would definitely recommend that you read the first “Protection for Hire” before picking up this one. Both are fun, light and snappy…good combinations for a contemporary novel.

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers for my copy to review.

Out of prison for a crime she didn't commit and now working as a bodyguard, Tessa is hired to protect a contestant on a TV singing competition and his daughter, who have been targeted by a group rigging the results. The investigation forces Tessa to work with Charles, they guy who put her away for longer than expected and also the one she still loves. Can they work together to keep George and his daughter safe without losing their hearts?

I really liked the first book in this series, and this was a great follow-up. I loved the chemistry between Tessa and Charles that jumped off the page. All the characters, both new and returning, are wonderful, balancing the action with humor and family drama. There was great character growth, especially with Charles that I really liked.

The book starts and ends with action-packed scenes. Although I never really got the connection on why the results were rigged (I probably just missed it), I really enjoyed the book. Although the action was fun, the character development, especially the relationship between Tessa and her family, is the best part of the book. The foreshadowing of what's to come in book three have me excited to read the next book!

Fans of Christian action with a hint of romance fiction will enjoy this book. I do recommend reading them in order to get to know the characters.

A Dangerous Stage by Camy Tang
Protection For Hire Book 2
Tessa Lancaster has avoided Charles Britton for a full year. Now she has a new client and Charles has been included in the case. She is to be the bodyguard for a thirteen year old girl who is too computer wise and had her fingers on a computer when she shouldn’t have. Working around Charles has her heart pulling her towards him and her anger and unforgiveness pushing her away at the same time.

Charles Britton finds his attraction to Tessa hasn’t changed in the year since they worked together. If he wanted to climb the success ladder though he needed to leave her behind. His coworker might be right in suggesting he starts dating and finds the right woman to help his career. Becoming a senior partner is what’s most important in life after all, right?

Tessa is still a fairly new Christian and struggles with things like forgiveness. She has come a long ways from her old life but is still on her way to becoming a new creation and letting go of the old. Charles has some situations in his life that have him looking at his own walk with Christ.

I started reading and couldn’t put the book down. Camy Tang gives the reader a story filled with adventure and suspense. And humor as well. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Excellent book! This continues the story of Tessa, ex-enforcer for her yakuza uncle and ex-con. It's about a year after the first book ends and Tessa is thrown back together with Charles, an attorney and the man she can't forgive for making sure she served her maximum time in prison. Tessa's hired to protect a contestant on a popular singing show and his daughter after she sees something she wasn't supposed to see as Charles tries to investigate who's behind the assassination attempts.

With multiple attempts on the daughter's life, Tessa has her hands full and there's plenty of action from fights to car chases! Charles decides he needs to move on from Tessa and starts to date, but will he fall for someone more suitable to his career? Will he put his career or his heart first? Will Tessa ever be able to forgive him?

I enjoyed this story as much as the first! I love the mix of romance, suspense, and humor with Japanese culture thrown in, which is something you don't see every day. The investigation kept my interest as they discussed the ins and outs of computer hacking and... see the rest here: http://shopgirl152ny.blogspot.com/201...

A Dangerous Stage ( a Protection For Hire Novel)
Camy Tang

I have been looking forward to the sequel of Protection for Hire for nearly a year (really since I finished the first one.) I was glad to see Tessa and Charles again. They have some really cute moments in this book.

Tessa Lancaster bodyguard business is going well expect she really doesn't have a lot of paying  customers.

Charles Britton needs to bring in more  clients if he every wants a senior partnership. That and he needs to have a stable home environment (aka a house and a nice, pretty wife.)

Tessa and Charles are not doing well at all. They have not spoken or seen each other since Tessa learned that Charles was responsible for the extra years on her prison sentence. But God and their old friend Elizabeth St. Amant have plans to fix that.

George Mynheir is a contender on a television show called, Grab the Mic. His daughter Hannah learned some information she should not know and is now in danger. George and Hannah need Tessa and Charles to protect them and find out who's threatening them. But to do that they will have to work together and act they like each other. Can they make it happen?

Tessa Lancaster is trying to break ties with her yakuza family (they don't fit with her New Life in Christ) and has started her own business as a bodyguard after getting out of prison for a crime she didn't commit. Her new clients are a contestant on a singing competition show (think American Idol) and his daughter. The daughter somehow found evidence that the whole show is rigged. Now someone's after them and will stop at nothing to make sure that information doesn't make it back anywhere.

Overtly, heavy-handedly Christian; caveat emptor, reader. The plot moves quickly enough and the mystery takes plenty of twists and turns, but that's not the same as something that kept me turning pages out of anything besides obligation.

Teen appeal = limited. There is a teen character (the daughter of the competitor), but she's not a big enough lead to really make this speak to teens. Best off in the adult section; it's not going to find legs among teens.

The second book in Tang's Protection for Hire series has an action-packed beginning and the pace doesn't let up until the end. The author blends the perfect amount of romantic tension between Tessa and Charles with a captivating mystery.
SUMMARY: Bodyguard Tessa Lancaster is finally beginning to find steady work after spending time in prison for a crime she didn't commit. When she and attorney Charles Britton are clued in to a frightening plot involving a reality singing competition, they must work together--despite their warring feelings for each other--to keep their clients and themselves safe. Can Tessa finally forgive Charles, or will holding onto hurt feelings ruin their professional relationship as well?

There were things in this book I liked and things I did not. Story line was good, but I am not a computer whiz so some of the terms were over my head. Also there was one scenario I was disappointed was included in Christian fiction. A little inappropriate in my opinion. Could have been left out. Like watching a great movie where they insert just enough language to ruin it. But the author also had some great thought provoking parts on witnessing and standing up for your faith which redeemed some of the other things I did not enjoy.

This book is a disappointing followup to Protection for Hire. Nikita-like Tessa protects a singer and his daughter, and falls in love with old flame. Good martial-arts action and an engaging plot. Extensive PG-rated descriptions of kissing. The writing is remarkably innumerate (trillionaire criminals?) and technologically illiterate (ridiculous uncopyable files, magical hacking, even more magical electronic surveillance).

This is the first book this series that I have read. I truly enjoying the story line and the interactions between the main characters, Tessa and Charles, who share unresolved issues from the pass. Tessa and Charles must work together to keep their new client and his daughter save. In the process, they both the power of love and forgiveness, both exemplified by our Lord Jesus. This is a great story of redemption. I highly recommended it.

A worthy follow-up to Protection for Hire, with kick-ass heroine Tessa trying to solve the question of who's rigging the results of a singing competition. Don't be put off by the Christian message (it doesn't pound the reader over the head). The tense relationship between Tessa and Charles as well as Tessa's with her sister Alicia are delved into in this sequel. I would love there to be a third book in the series.

I won this through the Goodreads First Reads program. I have never read the first in the series but I thought this one sounded interesting. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I did end up liking it. I had a few issues (mostly revolving around Tessa and Charles). I probably won't read the first in the series but I wouldn't be adverse to other Camy Tang novels. Thanks again.

I cannot wait for the 3rd book.

If you want to read a book while drinking tea and while wrapped in a fleece blanket, reading this book is a good idea if you enjoy books written by Camy Tang and if you have read the first book in the series (Protection for Hire).

I definitely need to re-read Protection for Hire.

Deducted a star for the constant back and forth from Tessa. Passionately kissing Charles, shoving him away " I'm mad/I hate you" and repeat. It got really old quickly as did her unforgiveness but she was quick to forgive her Uncle. I'm hoping more growth for Tessa next book!! ** it did resolve nicely however:)
