Over in the Meadow is a super cute counting book for the little ones! The basic numbers up to ten! The book uses different animals to help reach the goal of counting to ten. This fun illustrative book has holes in the pages that match with number For example, when counting to number four, there are four otters playing in the water. The next number is five, so the book shows a hole with five honey bees. The next number is six, and the book shows a hole with six crows. While reading this book I said, "Wow oh my gosh, this book is so cute!" I loved it! Because it is for little ones, I dont remember reading books like this but I'm sure I did when I was super little. I wouldn't use this book in my classroom because this book would be too easy for my level of teaching, but it would be great for preschool or kindergarten teachers. This is a fun way to get students and younger children engaged in counting numbers with seeing visual representations. They will not only be reading, but also physical touch can help student mind's learn quicker and adjust faster for learning how to count numbers.

So, oddly enough I have actually found myself buying nice counting books. Even though I am interested in teaching children at higher levels. I have younger siblings who I just adore. Which led me to looking for counting books to teach them sounds that will benefit them while they are young. Going on, I highly recommend this specific version because it is perfect for children who do understand the concept from hearing/ repeating it often.

Nice concept, but why does it just peter out?

I had to upgrade this one from 3 to 4 stars. Salo loves the rhymes, loves the song version done by Raffi and loves that he can turn the pages himself via the holes. He will bring this book to me and then sit down and "read" it to himself.

Can be combined with the song. I sang bits of it while I read it to the toddlers, helped keep their attention. A really interactive book--count the animals, make the noises, find their pictures in the big meadow.

Another of the Classic Books with Holes series. I like these, but in some of them the cutouts and what they are showing is small for a group audience, but perfect for lapsits. This one of the smaller ones.

Love that it's a book made from the song. The illustrations are interesting to the kids, and the digits to count as the pages turn are fun.
