My first complaint with this was too much repetition from book one. Conversations were literally copied and pasted into this book. I Hate reruns unless I am choosing to do a re-read.
My second complaint was that the heroine was a brilliant genius that had zero respect for other people's property. She would take things apart that weren't hers, just out of curiosity. And leave parts here there and everywhere. Reprogram things to do something other than their purpose..on a space ship...with total disregard for the consequences! That drove me bonkers!!
I was chuckling my ass off through out this book at the hero's attempts to keep Cara where he wanted her. Hilarious, he really was exasperated and it was fun to watch. Does that make me evil?? Maybe, but in my opinion, sometimes a man needs to be kept on his toes. Great read, for an author who I had never even heard of before I bought her first book in the series. I am enjoying them, they seem fun and sexy and sometimes thats just what I need. Only thing I didn't enjoy was the repeat at the beginning of this book of things that had happened in the previous one. Fair enough it was from a different view point, but whole conversations that I had already read were repeated. But that is my only gripe, great book for 2.99, so I am not going to whinge.
Of the five books I have read so far, this was my least favorite. I had a hard time identifying with Cara. I found her irritating and did not find her propensity to take apart everything in sight to be funny. I understand this was to set up some important abilities, downstream, but I was personally offended by all of the things she did to Trelon's living quarters, even before she knew whose living quarters they were. She is not someone I would want to invite to my home. Couple with the numerous typo and grammatical errors, I had trouble finishing the book. The only reason I gave it two stars and not one is because I like the premise. This was the first series where the Hero had not only a shifting animal self, but a symbiosis relationship with another entity.
Again, good concept but I just think it was poorly executed. I hated Cara, and I hated that she described herself as ‘a little ADHD’. If she wasn’t shown as a complete menace with no regard for anyone else in the world I wouldn’t have had a problem, but she was always blaming everyone else for being mad because she wanted to do whatever she wanted. She fiddled with electronics she legit had no clue about, because she wanted to, and when she completely fucked them up and destroyed rooms, she was all ‘it’s not my fault I was trying to do this, how did I know that would happen’
Example: “Why does the guy think every time an alarm goes off it is her fault?! Cara thought with resentment. It wasn’t like her setting the training simulator to music would make the alarms go off. Okay, well maybe she had programmed a little too much fog but how was she to know the computer would see it as smoke and start the fire evacuation program. And, yes, she did accidently start a mini-flood in the docking bay but she had only meant to create a light shower and it was supposed to have been programmed for the cleansing rooms off the training center which was exactly one floor above where it actually developed. And, how was she supposed to know certain frequencies when combined with the crystals acted like a stiff drink for a symbiosis? Now, he was blaming her for their communications being overloaded with requests for the videos she had uploaded.”
Not only did she enter someone’s room and she knew it was occupied, she went through his stuff and pulled things apart to ‘improve’ them and hacked the ships system (while they were moving, not just parked in a dock which to me is the height of stupidity, what if the whole thing breaks and you all die in space lol) and did all this crap the SECOND she boards the ship. And when they lock her up for hacking into the ships defence system (again, how was she to know, when she asked what it was no one would tell her so she snuck around and fiddled with it anyway) she’s PISSED, and breaks the lock to get out, destroying more of their shit.
Honestly I would have probably thrown her into space by now. But they don’t. And the hero finds it kinda cute. Which her interest would be great, IF SHE WASNT DESTROYING OTHER PEOPLES SHIT.
Then they land at home and she continues to do whatever she wants, just because. Hmm, alien planet with different laws and customs but she doesn’t care she still sneaks out when he’s sleeping, because she can.
It wasn’t all bad, but these two definitely got on my nerves. So did the fact she had claustrophobia, but willingly, and quickly locked herself in a broom cupboard that was a tiny space. The small space she entered before that made her freak out so much she basically went into a coma & this wasn’t that much later so I found it silly.
The bad chick was obvious, but I hated her and all the scenes involving her in the end.
Lastly, the big strong dragon warrior hero ’giggled’. And I’m still not over it.
Decided I’m done with this series even if I do like the concept.
Capturing Cara is another 5 star story in the Dragon Lords of Valdier series. We meet Cara in bk. 1 Abducting Abby. Cara is a very petite Human, Genius Mechanical Engineer. Her IQ is off the charts, but what makes her an excellent female lead character is her spirit and her energy. Her True Mate we found out is Trelon a Valdier Dragon Warrior/Shifter and brother to the King of Valdier. Trelon wants to keep Cara chained up in a good way because she is creating havoc aboard there ship. Cara has re engineered all of there advance technology. Technology we don't even have on earth but because that's what makes her brain tick she just has to improve everything and make it work much better. At first this cause a bit of chaos with the ships environment and engines. Trelon thinks if he can chain her long enough to mate her she will change her ways. But Cara can undo any chains and get out of any situations to lock her up. She is a petite power house that packs a very large punch.
I love poor Telon constantly trying to tie down Cara and keep her out of trouble. They have some madcap adventures in the story that helps the Valdier enemies to try to hurt there mates and even capture Cara and her friend Trisha. But these are kick butt women. They are tough and strong, intelligent and also very beautiful. The romance between Telon and Cara is not as erotic as Zoran and Abby book one but it was sensual. I truly enjoyed Capturing Cara and I am Highly Recommending it for a fast fun and easy romance read.
I enjoyed Cara and Trelon's story but I found reading the same scenes from the first book, just from a different POV, was a little tedious. I hope the others in the series aren't like that since they seem to take place at the same time.
I like this author, but this series isn't working for me. Cara was a delight, but the dragon brothers are lame, and their domineering is weak. The sex scenes are short and lack detail or intensity. The series plot holds possibilities for all of the brothers, but I'm not interested in them.
Capturing Cara definitely continued the insta-everything train of things in this series. At least Cara and Trelon brought the humor. Well, mainly Cara because she was kind of a bad ass in the beginning. A bit underestimated but definitely proved to be one annoying and stubborn girl for her mate.
Just like before, there's lots of smut and mating. Yet, there's hints of danger lurking in the corners. It does seem like one of the girls are in danger.. if not all. Other than that, I did enjoy how the girls were all 'yay girl power' and looked out for one another.
If I could anything, which for these books might be a lot, it would be the repetition. I get it, some things need to repeat when you are telling each person's story.. but ugh, I just didn't need it all the time.
This picks things up pretty much with a rewind of the last book. We get a flashback to Cara as a child. Then everything repeats from the flight onward. This time things are predominately from the two leads POV.
Of all the characters in the last book, I most related to Cara. Not quite the ADD, but definitely the energetic and creative mind side of her personality. She is so quirky, fun and free! I love characters like her. Others might find her a bit much, but I thought she was delightful!
Trelon certainly has his work cut out for him in pinning this hummingbird down! He is all bossy alien alpha male. Thankfully, Cara is not going to lay down and take it. Sure they have hawt chemistry, but she is not letting that blind her and cow her. She is determined to be loved for who she is, no changes needed.
The plot thickens with several intrigues at play on their Valdier home world. I love all these twists and turns that add depth to the series. The layers are delicious and keep the reader engaged. I am eager to see things play out in the other books.
The narrative is still a touch jumpy at times with a stray thought here and there from another character. Mostly it is from the leads, but those randoms make things a tad herky-jerky.
Yummy smexy scenes, yeah there is steamy heated detail to get you all hawt and bothered. Have the ice cream ready, and a cold shower, and your special someone!! Whoa mama!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by David Brenin, who is one of my ear crushes. I just adore his deep rumble that brings these smexy Alpha aliens to life. His pace is spot on and flows beautifully with the read. This is one of those happy pairings of wonderful story and the right narrator. The energy of the story feeds into the energy of the read. A delightful performance! I can not wait to hear him on the next book!
I want Trisha now!! I know the ebook is already out, but I want David to read to me again. This book leaves off with a tease for the next. I want, I want, I want!!

I don't think I've disliked a character so much in a long time. Cara is a child. Annoying, immature, irresponsible and naive to the point that I spent most of the book just wanting her to shut up or have her story end quickly. I get that the author was trying for cute with ADHD but I've known ADHD people that can still function better than this character does.
So, after reading the first novel, while not blown away, I was somewhat interested to see what would happen with the rest of the women that were abducted with Abby. Honestly, I wish I would've stopped while I was ahead.
First off, there was so much cutting and pasting from the other book, it made this book boring. I really feel like the author wrote herself into a hole that she couldn't dig out of. The stories of these women overlap too much so that you spend about two thirds of the book rereading ground you covered in the last novel. That's not good writing, that's lazy and unimaginative.
Second, Cara wasn't a cute, quirky kind of character. She was a destructive menace. I get that the author was trying to set up the fact that when Cara is later kidnapped, she'll have the skills necessary to escape but the destruction she caused made her look more like a toddler with zero self control. You know, the ones that you just want to strangle because the parents have no idea how to discipline and eventually grow up to be the kind of children that tell their parents to "shut up"? Yeah. That's what she is like. It made me dislike her so much that I couldn't connect with the story and felt like I really didn't care what happened between her and Trelon as long as the story ended sooner rather than later.
Third, the author tried to convey that Cara is incredibly intelligent but yet she can't figure out who poisoned her? It was too obvious as to Cara's enemy which made the story dull.
Would I recommend this story? Hell, no. HARD pass. I didn't laugh. I didn't care. Too much sex with too little interesting story. I mean...there was so much potential in this series but....I don't know. I feel like I want to read one more to see if the author can redeem herself but, I gotta be honest, my hopes are not high.
I simply can’t get enough of this series! Smith blasts readers off of earth with the same flash, flare and energy that we’ve come to know and love her for. This action packed novel balances romance with adventure in a manner that kept me on my toes. I like how the plot backtracks a bit from where the previous novel ended, giving us Cara’s view of how things started and taking off from there. The plot was seamlessly crafted, always headed towards an end goal without ever being predictable.
Cara is completely, perfectly, over the top priceless. I love the way that Smith introduces readers to and develops Cara’s character. I could feel her energy pouring from the pages. Trelon’s frustration and adoration shine along with it. The culture clash between these two does as much to develop their characters as Smith’s fantastically intricate character development does.
Exotic & erotic. That’s how I’d definitely describe this novel. Smith takes SciFi romance to a whole new galaxy with this one.
wow what a tiny bundle of confusing, entertaining, overwhelming, and delightfully energetic woman. I shouldn't have to tell you the Vadier dragon prince Trelon has his hands full trying o claim this tiny Earth woman.
Who says rain isn't good on a spaceship, or the electric slide isn't a good cardio exercise, add in the fact that no-one can seem to keep her contained and to stop wreaking havoc is only a couple reasons why Cara's story is my favorite.
This second book in the series is almost a stand-alone book. I'm glad I read the first one as some events from it are mentioned and it provided world building that was not repeated here. However, this book mostly takes place simultaneously. Since I had read the first book a while ago, I'd forgotten how it started and was surprised when the beginning of this one was clearly related (though I couldn't remember the details behind some of the action related to Abby).
Cara is crazy--smart, curious, rambunctious, loyal. She had a difficult childhood that left her feeling very alone and aggravated the isolation created by her genius ability with machines and electronics. Now she's an adult and has acquaintances. When she finds herself kidnapped by aliens, she is fascinated rather than scared. She drives them crazy and isn't always too smart as she takes thing apart and tests systems while in space. Her mate is the first person to truly appreciate her, but she doesn't realize that because he doesn't know to communicate that to her. So, she fights her fate until he finally makes it clear that he's not letting her go.
The larger dangers and drama that exist in the first book are expanded here, with a bit of very personal nastiness. Cara is irrepressible when she gets going and it's a lot of fun to see her drive everyone up the wall.
Thoroughly loved this book, Cara is an amazing character and I bet it was fun writing for her. This follows on from the first book so well with a change in the main characters but still relating everything on. It was an amusing read and I couldn’t help but relate to Cara. A book for anyone in my opinion
Loved Cara, great MC. This was way better than the first book. I was a bit annoyed that this book called the planet Valdire while the rest of the books called it Valdier.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Abducting Abby, so while I really wanted to listen to this one, I was also a bit nervous about whether or not I’d like it as much. It didn’t grab me quite as hard as book one but I did enjoy it nearly as much. Once again David Brenin did a great job with the audiobook.
One of the things I loved about this story was Cara’s inquisitive nature and how she was able to tear things apart and put them back together to be even better than they were originally. She really is a spitfire and her personality really came through in the writing. I thought it was endearing how much Trelon’s symbiosis and dragon loved Cara and how it kind of made Trelon a bit jealous.
I found Cara very entertaining! I loved how she gave the men hell and wasn't going to change for anything. Cara on coffee cracked me up! I literally laughed out loud at work listening to the book!
This was a really good story. I really liked Cara and Trelon and thoroughly enjoyed their story. This is part of the series but TBH, it feel like enough of a story on it's own that I think it could be read out of order with hardly any difficulty.
Cara is a rather hyper but greatly gifted woman. She's extremely intelligent and is gifted at mechanics, figuring things out and getting out of places she doesn't want to be. As a kid, she lost both of her parents and her uncle took guardianship over her. Cara has been hyper and extremely curious all her life so her uncle couldn't handle her and ended up sending her to a boarding school for gifted children. Unfortunately, Car didn't have much happiness there either.
Trelon is a dragon shifter from an alien planet. His brother, Zoran, is the King of their people (in addition to being the hero from book #1). Trelon works helping his brothers run the kingdom (their planet) and is mechanically inclined. His dragon wants a mate and he hasn't found his true mate so he's considered taking a woman he knows as his mate even though his dragon barely tolerates her.
Zonran was kidnapped by enemies and he escaped but ended up injured on a primitive planet (Earth) where Trelon and his other brothers had to travel to to pick him up. When they get there, it's to find someone kidnapping Abby (Zoran's human mate) and in the process of rescuing her, the brothers reveal themselves to a handful of human woman that Abby was travelling with. The brothers decide that the woman have seen too much and need to be taken back to their planet with them. Cara is among the women kidnapped by the Valdier warriors and actually thought the whole thing was kind of cool. She never fit in well on Earth anyways and there's all sorts of new gadgets for her to take apart on the spaceship...
Trelon knows right away that Cara is his...he can't keep his eyes off of her and goes nuts when another Valdier tries to touch her. His symbiosis migrates completely over to her, abandoning him, and he can't seem to keep track of her because every time he turns around, she's gone again. Cara feels the attraction for Trelon but avoids it at first as she's never had much luck with love...most guys couldn't stand being around her long enough for a first date. Cara had even swore off love but I think that was mostly a defense mechanism that enabled her not to be hurt by men that couldn't accept her for herself because she would never fall for them anyways. Trelon does manage to get past her barrier but staying there isn't easy, especially when the woman he would have mated if not for Cara shows up and causes some trouble. There's some drama and danger for both Trelon and Cara but they get through things relatively unscathed and end the story starting a well deserved HEA together.
This was a really enjoyable story. Cara was a great heroine, I found her to be very endearing. TBH, I don't blame Trelon for being frustrated with Cara...she had no concept of discretion when tearing things apart and experimenting with stuff. Still, outside of that, I really liked Cara and would have loved to hang out with her (if she existed in RL I mean). Trelon was a good hero even if it took him a little bit to understand how to deal with Cara. Also, he had his grumpy moments but with Cara's antics, he wasn't exactly getting a lot of sleep and I could sympathize (LMAO). Overall, I liked the characters a lot and thought the story itself was really good and did well at keeping me interested through the end. I'd recommend this story. :)
* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.

If spelling, grammar and general bad editing drive you insane DO NOT read this book. The premise is a good one and the story interesting but if you can't overlook the spelling, grammar and editing issues you will hate this book.
This is the second of the series and we follow the story of Cara the ADD genius engineer. We actually cover some of the same events (Abby's abduction) and all of the women being taken to Valdier but we follow it from Cara's perspective. This means some scenes repeat but I found it interesting rather than annoying. Cara is fiercely independent and seeking to test any man (or dragon) who wants her. Trelon is drawn to her even as she drives him insane. Events happen concurrently within this story so whilst Abby and Zoron were away Trelon and Cara are dealing with an attack and the recovery from it.
There were some story inconsistencies that showed. The main one being that Cara didn't go through a "heat" after changing the first time. I actually didn't miss this as I thought it was a bit much and didn't really like that scene in Abby's story. Zoron's claiming also differed from Trelon's but again I didn't miss the differences. (The next book - not list on GR yet - also differs in the same ways so perhaps the author is adjusting due to feedback.)
I enjoyed the interplay between the two leads. I liked that Cara sought to battle back in her own unique way to being taken by the Valdiers and then used those same skills to her advantage later in the book. Whilst you didn't see it in this story you definitely got the impression that once Cara settles then most of her antics will go away and she will just be an hyperactive but not destructive mate. Trelon was a good match for her.
The next book Tracking Trisha improves again and now I am waiting for Ariel's story.
Cara, is a fun, crazy, intelligent, mechanical genius. Extremely hyper and always taking everything apart to find out how it works. This made the story really fun and lighthearted, especially when on the spaceship.
All those dragons running around, but not really catching up to Cara. Trelon was the only one to see what a logical mind she had despite not sleeping and always slipping away. His Dragon and his Symbiot both wanted to claim Cara, and Trelon couldn't wait to do so either. He just had to catch her first.
This story overlapped Abducting Abby but from Cara's POV, and went further into the future. We get more of a glimpse of the other mates-to-be, in their interactions between the brothers and the humans.
I was going to do this detailed instruction manual of what incredibly complicated order to read the books in, but life is too short! Basically, I read books 2-5 at the same time, skipping between them at points of intersection of the books! Because! Spoilers! Ye flippin' gods the spoilers between books. And it irritated me. I had to keep going to the next book (books 6 to... 9?) because the previous book was spoiling. I skipped the sex scenes. I started reading the series because my Amazon kept suggesting I should read the Dragonling's Christmas and such. I wanted the adorableness!!! And they were adorable... But thank gods I'm out of that interminable morass of nonsense!! Ah, plenty of continuity errors, mostly timeline.
As far as I can tell, the Dragon Lords of Valdier is a series of books chronicling the pairing up of various Valdier lords and a group of women of earth who end up on their spaceship. These lords are finally finding their TRUE mates, and the main focus of the books is the claiming of the various mates.
Who says you need a plot?
And I'm truly over the whole ginormous H/tiny h thing. Especially after this book. If you took a drink every time the author wrote 'tiny' you'd be on your butt before the first few chapters are over.
I liked this book the best! I felt cara was too much trouble but she was cute... Trelon was great guy! He was so good Cara even when she was acting as a pain.
Best book from all the four books I've read in the series.
Also Cara accepted her Dragon really nicely. I was getting bored with the same old storyline of all the books.
