For developers who want to design for performance and administrators who need to improve performance, this book is an indispensable reference. It covers SPARC systems and peripherals and the latest release of Solaris (2.6). It includes detailed configuration and performance information not available anywhere else, plus clear explanations of how to use system monitoring tools.
This book was an excellent reference, for what it was. Computing has completely changed, though, and much that we did back in the Solaris 2.6 days as good practice is positively deleterious now. It's interesting to read back and see how far I've adapted in my career from the days I would have written the same book myself.
This book is still on my shelf, reminding me of happier and more innocent times.
