If you enjoy reading love stories about Christians that take place in different time periods, than this is a book for you! It takes place in the mid 1800's. There are four short novellas in this one book. About 90 pages per story and it is real easy reading.
The first story is about this girl working at the Harvey restaurant, yet she seems to be in no need of money, or is she? She caught the manager's eye first because she was a lousy waitress, second because she was beautiful and helped him ti take care of his daughter. What is her reason for working there? What is she running from?
The second story invloves another waitress from the Harbey reataurant only that she witnesses an attempted train robbery and falls for the ranger on the train. She struggles with her love and the question of how can they live with their situation.
The third story is about a young girl who wants to provvide for her family. Except shedoesn't plan on doing it as a waitress, she is on the search for a wealthy man to come find her and take her away from the Harvey restaurant and marry her. The only problem is she fell in love with the one man who wasn't wealthy, or was he?
The fourth story is about this sad woman who keeps to herself and ran away from her husband, whom she is afraid of. His brother comes looking for her and wants her to come back to they family. Does he have his own reasons for this? What happends when she finds out the reasons she hasn't been feeling well? What will her husband do to her for running away? Why did she run away in the first place?
These novellas were all so enjoyable, but keep in mind if you don't want to read about faith, God, and salvation, these books aren't for you. They have Christian undertones, not sermons. But great sources of inspiration.

Thought I'd try some "clean" romance for a bit. May have went a wee bit too far on myself there. Just not my thang. But the idea/stories were good in general. Sorry, ok, I can't get in to religious dudes. It freaks me out. Is there a phobia for that? Googling.

Bought this book while vacationing in Grand Canyon. 4 short stories all tied together. Young, single women trained to be waitresses in a hotel chain. Majority of women wanted to work at the elite hotel in the Grand Canyon and their ultimate goal was to find a husband. Fun, easy read

3.5 Star! I really enjoyed it and will probably read again. Even tho it's not like "Omgosh AMAZINGGG!!!" Its still a nice read!

Just Read from Famine to Feast by Pamela Kaye Tracy. The first of 4 stories in this NOvella. It was really good. I have enjoyed the books by Pamela I have read so far. They have all taken place in AZ where I live so I can relate.
"Armed & Dangerous" by Dianne Christner. Another great read. Edie Harris is heading for her new Harvey Girl job at the Grand Canyon and while on the train reading her dime novel she is a robber outside her window. The handsome Ranger Wade Sloan chases them away but Edie can identify one of them. Just the adventure she was looking for.
5/31/2010- "The Richest Knight" by Nancy J. Farrier is the 3rd in this book. Lillian leaves her parents and 9 siblings to work at the Grand Canyon as a Harvey Girl so she can marry a rich man and not be poor like her family, and she wants to help her family with the money. Franklin Knight leaves his inheritance behind to work and find a woman not wanting him for the money his family has. Lillian learns the true meaning of being rich.
"Shelter From the Storm" by Darlene Mindrup is the final story in this book. One part of the story reminds me of something in my own life, sometimes when something bad happens at a time in my life I seem to think it was all bad. It is good to sit back and remember there were actually good times as well.

I bought this book for my mother in law, since she loved the movie about the Harvey Girls. It is also one of my favorites. This book follows the lives of several of those brace young women, who brave harsh country for adventure. There is something else going on that endangers the girls, and adds to the story. I loved the story of Olivia, and Edie, Lilian, and Katie. Each have a different reason to begin again in Arizona. This is also a faith based storyline. I really enjoyed this book.Each character has her own story, yet all stories intermingled.

Romantic clap trap. I read this at a friend's recommendation, because my grandpa was a Pullman conductor and so I am nostalgic about railroads and the Fred Harvey restaurants, having spent a large part of my early childhood at Union Station in Los Angeles. But these topics just provide rather a flimsy window dressing for these predictable morality tales. Please tell me the audience is young girls and not grown women?

These books are always easy reads. Each novella is short on detail, but they had recurring characters providing a running thread through each.
