Howard Browne
203 books19 followersHoward Browne (April 15, 1908–October 28, 1999) was a science fiction editor and mystery writer. He also wrote for several television series and films. Some of his work appeared over the pseudonyms John Evans, Alexander Blade, Lawrence Chandler, Ivar Jorgensen, and Lee Francis.
Beginning in 1942, Browne worked as managing editor for Ziff-Davis publications on Amazing Stories and Fantastic Adventures, both under Raymond A. Palmer's editorship. When Palmer left the magazines in 1949, Browne took over in January 1950. Browne ended the publication of Richard Shaver's Shaver Mystery and oversaw the change in Amazing from a pulp magazine to a digest. He left the magazines in 1956 to move to Hollywood.
In Hollywood, Browne wrote for television shows including Maverick, Ben Casey, and The Virginian. His last credit was for the film Capone (1975), starring Ben Gazzara.

Three short stories and one serialized story The Scarlet Saint (part II) by Manily Banister. I have the Scarlet Saint as part of an Ace Double that I haven't read yet so a review of that story will happen at some time in the future.
Call Him Colossus by Malcolm Meade
Basically an alien race is exploring Earth thousands of years ago. They need to leave, but are short on fuel so they dump a giant robot and then leave the planet. The robot wakes up and starts some major destruction. I gave this one three stars.
This Way Out by Ivar Jorgensen. Ivar Jorgensen is a floating pseudonym used by many writers.
An odd little tale about a Martian prisoner and body swapping. I gave this one two stars.
Better Change Your Mind by C H Thames
A cute little story about a fourth grade teacher from the future. Two mischievous kids who body swap with the President and Secretary of State and a private eye that has to set everything right. I gave it three stars.
Passing Fancy by Harry L Sonneborn
A man goes to see a psychologist because he thinks he's crazy and the psychologist disappears. Very weird, very short story. I gave it two stars.
